PETITION FOR A SECOND REFERENDUM - 1 million + signatures already

GertrudeBelle · 25/06/2016 11:10

A parliamentary petition has been created calling for a second referendum. As I type, it already has 1,061,466 signatures and the number is growing rapidly so it will have to be taken seriously.

I would urge everyone who is concerned about the consequences of yesterday's result to sign it. It only takes a minute. Get your friends and family to sign too.

Link here:

There's also a map showing the location of the signatories. There are some key Remain territories which don't seem to have picked this up - particularly Scotland and Northern Ireland. Please spread the word. Map here:

That would be Carney who tried to scare us with one sets of figures before the vote and only told us about contingency funds after it?

Lemonlady22 · 25/06/2016 15:15

ive said this somewhere else.....its like a rich american on trial who has 2,3 or 4 court appearances to overturn a guilty verdict until he gets the not guilty verdict he wants....sometimes you cant have what you want because you didnt get the result you craved....have some respect and dignity.....i hate sore losers......we all have to get on with it now and make the country a better place....not whinge about it !

Not sure we're talking about the same thing, Draylon, He was talking about bank money in hand that keep our risk rating much as it is.

UK banks have raised over £130bn of capital, and now have more than £600bn of high quality liquid assets

is that 1 million signatures of the 16 million that wanted to stay....way to go yet!....dont forget the ones that may change their minds ....oh and also the ones that NOW think maybe its a good idea and changed from staying in to getting out after they voted!

chicaguapa · 25/06/2016 16:02

The repercussions of the UK leaving the EU extend further than our economy. There's the issue of Scotland's bid of independence and membership of the EU and the precedent that will set with Spain and Catalonia. And where that leaves Northern Ireland who also, as a country, voted to stay in the EU plus the whole peace process.

All those considerations together with a petition with 1m+ signatures are enough for parliament to vote against the referendum results. I know David Cameron said he'd stand by any result but he also said he wouldn't resign if that was to leave.

randomparent · 25/06/2016 18:30

The petition for a 2nd EU referendum has just reached 2 million signatories.

If you would like the UK to remain in the EU, you can sign on here.

BMW6 · 25/06/2016 18:51

If a second referendum is held because of this ridiculous undemocratic petition, then I will make sure another petition is put forward to uphold the result of the first referendum..........

Shall we go on forever? After the next GE, if the vote doesn't go the way I like can I get another petition going to overrule the vote?

(After all, there are bound to be lies election promises as there ALWAYS are)

HereSheComestoSavetheDay · 25/06/2016 19:03

What difference does it make if there's a second referendum if you truly believe that the majority of the British public will vote out again?

But you know what, I think it wouldn't get a majority vote now that the shit has hit people in the face.

I am happy to throw every last thing I have in to try and stop this global shitstorm. I don't give a shit about supposed dignity when the stakes are this high.

LondonKiwiMummy · 25/06/2016 19:05

But will you vote to leave once you know you're going to be in the EEA anyway, and still subject to EU nationals coming here to work? Because apparently some of you had not appreciated this.

Surferjet · 25/06/2016 19:16

You are not going to get a 2nd referendum. This result was final - David Cameron said it! 'This is a one off' - & if by some billion to one chance you get what you want, I'll be starting a petition to block it.
So dream on.

AllThePrettySeahorses · 25/06/2016 19:16

I wouldn't sign it either. I am a committed Remainer, but the fair result was Leave, no matter how stupid many of think it is. I wish the prats in government would just trigger Article 50 and get it over with, rather than fudge about trying to delay the inevitable. The EU doesn't want us.

HereSheComestoSavetheDay · 25/06/2016 19:19

A billion to one chance is worth a shot against economic suicide.

Surferjet · 25/06/2016 19:19

Exactly AllThePrettySeahorses - they want us out ASAP.

HereSheComestoSavetheDay · 25/06/2016 19:20

No, they want to make an example of us so that other countries don't make the same ridiculous mistake.

Of course they would have us stay. It benefits everyone for us to stay.

neveradullmoment99 · 25/06/2016 19:20

I am remain, but no way will I be signing this. This is NOT how democracy works.

This.
You cannot just decide that you dont want it. I am remain but will not sign either. It was up to the individual to do their research. You cant cry now that you were misled. I voted remain because i listened and read up. This would totally undermine democracy. Its wrong.

Surferjet · 25/06/2016 19:23

HereSheComestoSavetheDay I understand your anger, I'd have felt the same if the vote had been remain, but I'd have accepted it. You're just prolonging the agony because there won't be a 2nd referendum. I'll bet my house on it.

HereSheComestoSavetheDay · 25/06/2016 19:24

It not undemocratic to vote again if something changes or if the vote was very especially close, both of which are the case here.

If fifty two out of a hundred people wanted the whole hundred to throw their purses in the river, would you expect the other forty eight to just say well we've been massively outvoted and toss their hard earned cash into the water? Without even saying, hang on, nearly half of us think this idea is stupid. I don't think so.

IamPoopyHead · 25/06/2016 19:26

So, do you only believe in democracy if the outcome that you support happens to "win" Hmm

HereSheComestoSavetheDay · 25/06/2016 19:28

Would you throw your money in the river, in that scenario?

Even if some of the 52 started saying that they didn't realise that was what the outcome would be?

You wouldn't think, let's just double check before anyone's money and possessions are irretrievably lost?

MustStopAndThinkBeforePosting · 25/06/2016 19:30

This.

When our kids do something stupid, and when we find our we say "what on earth posessed you to do that" and they say "well everyone else wanted to" do we say "ah yes, well then I don't blame you, that's how democracy works"?

Well would you say that about a Scottish referendum? Come on!!! Get over it.

neveradullmoment99 · 25/06/2016 19:32

When Scotland voted to stay with the UK in the independence ref. all those who voted leave had to put up/shut up. Its called democracy.
