To not be able to speak to my near neighbours who voted leave?

TooMuchCoffeeMakesMeZoom · 24/06/2016 23:43

My children's future has been put at stake. Our economy risks ruin. Our relatively -well-off neighbours in a place with nearly full employment and very low recent immigration (local care companies and NHS are desperate for staff) have voted leave. They are only around fifty.

I'm gobsmacked.

The irony is that the small business they are in is affected by the growth of China as an economic powerhouse. So why on earth do they feel that leaving the EU gives them more power? It gives them less.

I am so angry and feel so let down by my country. These people, and people like them ahem destroyed my hopes for a continued peace in Europe.

How on earth am I expected to talk to them on an equal footing, knowing what they have done through their own greed?

Wow I honestly can't believe people are willing to lose friendships and relationships over this. That's a sure fire way of dividing this country even more. I wanted to stay no ifs ands or buts, however that is not to be so myself and hubby have dusted ourselves down and are looking at the positives of leaving. What other choice is there???
We live in a democracy a right of free speech, just because you don't agree with another's opinion it doesn't make them a bad person. I don't agree with a close friend of mines vote to leave and vote for ukip but she is still a good friend to me and ultimately that's what matters to me.

Dad54 · 27/06/2016 18:04

Sorry I haven't had time to read all messages above, so I hope there's been some balanced debate, but I just wanted to say that its annoying that people who voted leave are typecast, usually negatively.
I personally voted Leave, on principle rather than self interest, because I find the existence of a rich countries protectionist club to be thoroughly objectionable in a world racked by poverty and huge imbalances of wealth.
And for all the EU nations to effectively have an immigration policy that eg favours a rich Italian banker who just wants to move to London ahead of a poverty stricken African family is to my mind appalling; the EU needs to rethink its role in a global world and not be so inward focused and self centred.

Yes yabu

Julie0210 · 27/06/2016 18:28

I agree with you, it's about the bigger picture and 'who they are'. My neighbour is Polish and on Saturday morning I heard her saying to her (English) husband 'I don't know what to do, people don't want me hear they've make it clear'! I find it heartbreaking that she has been made to feel this way, I hope her young children don't get any racist backlash from it! Yanbu x

You voted how you wanted and they voted how they want. Good job you don't live where I live. I live in a village in East Anglia and only saw 3 remain posters, I have seen loads and loads of leave posters. Our nearest town had massive leave posters as you drove into it and in the big car park.
I personally don't think there is going to be big difference in the future. America have said today their relationship will UK will stay the same. I've heard of several business people today saying nothing for them trading wise with EU will change. So we will have to see. I don't understand why people are saying 100's of people are being layed off this week. Why? We don't know what the future holds. I also read that we may not even leave the eu.
But you can't ignore your neighbours. As I said, round here you'd be not speaking to anyone.

Notmuchtosay1 · 27/06/2016 19:04

That should read nothing changes with them.

LoonieToony · 27/06/2016 19:22

Yes I work. Everyone I work with has voted in apart from our two resident racists and our aged retainer (who's a sexist fucker to boot)

Fuck OFF OP. Racists? The new term to bandy around when you realise someone has voted out.

Sittingonthedockofthebay · 27/06/2016 19:25

I just discovered one of my best friends voted leave. What sticks in my craw is her reason "for the hell of it". Feeling very angry with her so am keeping my distance until I calm down, don't want to ruin a friendship but it is hard.

LoonieToony · 27/06/2016 19:25

My son's French friend feels scared. It makes me angry.

Probably because you're filling the poor lad's head with knee-jerk, xenophobic (right back 'atcha) drama.

As for being in tears in from of children in sports day, shame on you all. I'm embarrassed.

FeeLock · 27/06/2016 19:25

OP, suggest you simply do as you would with anyone whose decisions you disagree with: give them courtesy and civility. You don't owe them anything else.

louisagradgrind · 27/06/2016 19:38

How many people who voted Leave are struck dumb when sharing office space or schoolyards with those who wanted us to submit to a Euro Super State.

I shake whenever one comes near and so does my three month old baby, as I have explained to him that they dangerously risked a superstate run by Mr Juncker.

I'm still shaking. I recover for a while and then, thinking of the near miss, run amok and shake again. It is exhausting. I have gone NC with them.

Unreasonable and ridiculous. You assume you are right and they are wrong. Huge lies and exaggeration from Remain side. Pre vote, told no plans to cope with mayhem. Friday "here's the plan" etc

Lucydogz · 27/06/2016 19:57

great comment Louisa

YANBU!
You're allowed to have feelings. You don't have to be nice to people who have messed up the country.

Atipipipi · 27/06/2016 20:02

You are a disgrace to your country. Its your type causing all the hate and panic. Get over your selfishness and respect the opinion of the winners.

Janecc · 27/06/2016 20:05

Atipipipi. That's harsh. Really. Pipi off please.

louisagradgrind · 27/06/2016 20:11

It is not a laughing matter.

My husband voted remain and so whenever he and the 1 year old look at me and our 3 month old, they shake and shout.

Naturally, we only need to take a glance at them for the three month old and I to shake.

My six year old, who has a deep understanding of European history, has shook so much that he has developed St Vitus Dance.

The house, as a result of all this shaking and running amok, has developed subsidence and is also trembling when ever we run about shaking.

We are NC with each other and with our whole county which is just as well, as out teeth have fallen out they shook so much and we can't make ourselves understood even if we wanted to which we don't.

If only everyone had voted like me, we would not now be expecting an earthquake.

EvansOvalPies · 27/06/2016 20:19

You don't have to be nice to people who have messed up the country

Would you please be able to explain your rationale behind this statement, AngryPrincess ? What evidence is there that the country is 'messed up'? You may not remember, but the UK has not always been a member of the EU. It wasn't messed up then, either, BTW.

Schwabischeweihnachtskanne · 27/06/2016 20:21

Dad54 that is one of the best arguments I have heard for voting leave (the few people I know personally seem unable or unwilling to say why beyond it being their right and in one case believing in conspiracy theories) ...

The only thing is the proposed points system will still favour the rich Italian banker over the poverty stricken African family, and in fact anyone rich over anyone from a poorer background...

EttaJ · 27/06/2016 20:22

Louisa 😂😂😂

We have not had much entertainment on these ridiculous posts but thank you because you have me guffawing with laughter . We needed a bit of light relief from all the doom mongers.
