Oh sugar hope things get a bit easier for you - I lost a parent too and it is unspeakably hard and then to manage other changes on top can feel a bit too much. Flowers

Sugar Flowers

General carnage is a fair description.

Notthiswankagain · 28/06/2016 09:08

sirona I hear you! This referendum just demonstrates that we aren't even a consideration to Westminster. If we were then leaving the EU wouldn't be a question. We don't vote for the PM so why should we have to suffer these consequences?

Afishcalledchips · 28/06/2016 09:09

Bloody hell, I feel sorry for you lot in N.I.

I'm in Wales, in a county that voted remain, but a country that's betrayed itself. I can't get my head around the short sighted bloody stupidity of the leave voters.

And I'm getting sick of hearing people say we're throwing our toys out and don't believe in democracy when the result doesn't suit us, or that have to forget about it and work together. I feel rage, quite honestly. We haven't 'taken our shitty little country back' - no one had taken it from us. We haven't stopped or changed immigration, not that we should even want to. We haven't saved the NHS. All we've done is cost ourselves a fuck ton of money, pushed right-wing politics forward, cut off the rest of the world to prove some non existent point about how we're not happy with our lot. The UK has cut off its nose to spite it's face.

Afishcalledchips · 28/06/2016 09:12

And it's not like in a general election, I've never wanted a Tory government but I've accepted it. This referendum, if they do trigger article 50 is basically irreversible for a whole generation. I'm 31, I'll have to live most of my adult life with the consequences of this decision.

JayDot500 · 28/06/2016 09:21

Watching the EU parliament on Victoria Derbyshire.... I don't want to leave! They're being so nice to us Grin

megletthesecond · 28/06/2016 09:30

My face going to into the office now> Grin.

Internally> SadAngry.

Notthiswankagain · 28/06/2016 09:40

sugar I'm sorry for your loss.

ladydepp · 28/06/2016 09:51

Just had coffee with a good friend, she has senior job in a large European company and she is in London. She was told yesterday that they were now freezing all hiring, and highly likely they will move headquarters back into the EU, probably Frankfurt and probably very soon. She won't move as she has 2 young children at school and a husband in the civil service. She doesn't think it will be easy for her to find another job at the same level in London, she may give up work for a few years and will then sack her lovely full time nanny. She has also already decided not to book any holidays for next year until things are more settled.

I know this is all "probably" and "maybe" but this makes me Angry and Sad as so unnecessary.

Sirona · 28/06/2016 12:22

So sorry for the loss of your mother sugar Flowers

Exactly Notthiswankagain, we don't get a say on PM, why should we have to suffer this indeed? Was reading on twitter this morning a company has pulled out of a £25m deal in Belfast buildimg office space. It begins already Sad

I'm actually bloody furious now my parents voted leave and are gleeful about it. I love them but I don't respect this decision at all when they have really good pensions and own two houses, one in an EU country. They won't have to deal with the consequences, it's myself and the dc.

SugarPlumTree · 28/06/2016 13:26

Thank you, you're all lovely Smile DD moved to study abroad just over a week ago so it has been a rather eventful month.

Just smiled to see a member of the EP call on Farage for the 350 million lie. Completely mortified ti be British watching Farage tell them all they'd never done a day's work in their lives, stood with his little union jack.

Yes Sirona , it has started. But if you listen to some on here it's all 'alledged'

imwithspud · 28/06/2016 15:06

Sick of seeing Farage parading around Brussels, mouthing off and being all smug whilst burning bridges and hampering our chances of making decent trade deals with other eu countries in the future. The man just can't help himself can he? And people on Facebook are referring to him as a hero. I don't think I want to live on this planet anymore.

Sirona · 28/06/2016 16:18

Farage is an odious little cretin and is doing us no favours at all being over there spouting off. Did you see the post doing the rounds about calling for him to get a knighthood imwithspud? Ffs, really?

Alledgedly my arse Sugar, sure now they are talking about more austerity measures being brought in too. It's going to be a great big can of worms. At least your dd is away from all this and from someone who did a stint abroad, she'll have a ball (even though you'll miss her like crazy)

Just watched a video of a man being racially abused on the tram in Manchester. This is getting quite frightening how quickly things are escalating.

SugarPlumTree · 28/06/2016 16:50

I saw the Manchester one and the one with the German Lady. I sent the latter to my Brother who said there are always fuckwits and basically he has spoken to a mate in the UK (he isn't ) and don't worry, this is just project fear. I haven't been able to respond or I will say something we might well never come back from.

The only good bit about the Brussels footage was when someone told Farage he should apologise to the British people .

What's that show where the guy doesn't realise he is being watched on TV - the Truman Show ? This isn't real is it, we're part of a huge EU funded research project into social disorder.

MelanieCheeks · 28/06/2016 18:22

I'm at the bargaining stage.

Is EEA a runner at all? Way less advantageous than what we currently have, but at least it would have some of the pluses. And would fulfill the wording of the referendum - to not remain part of the EU.

But would the 17m leave voters accept something like a Norwegian model, which was tossed around in pre-vote debates but never really answered?

SugarPlumTree · 28/06/2016 19:24

I don't think they actually get a say do they ? As you said it was mentioned so it won't be new to them, if they listened to the info going around.

Nothing actually was answered pre referendum, some people voted thinking the NHS wa getting 350 million a week (this fiasco will go down in history as the 350 million pound lie I suspect ). It was clear from the look of tweedledum and tweedledee on Friday that this was not the result that was expected. Boris had his eye on Cameron's job and thought there would be a narrow remain win so he didn't send to bother with trivial details like what the rhetoric and taking back control actually translated into .

The Dutch PM had basically called it how it is, saying we need time as we have collapsed on pretty much every level.

MelanieCheeks · 28/06/2016 19:57

Oh dear, I thought I was holding it all together, but have just seen the protest at Westminster, and have starting crying again.

Huldra · 28/06/2016 20:12

I was speaking to my Mum who voted remain in the end but she did say that she would be glad that the immigration would now stop. I am Shock No, it probably won't.

The ridiculous thing is that her life has never been impacted by immigration, it is very white English.. She spends 4 months of the year living in an EU country, 3 of my bothers and sisters live abroad (2 in the EU) but that's diferent! I live in a SE town with high numbers of immigrants from all over, I like it.

JustABigBearAlan · 28/06/2016 22:50

The problem with the Norway model is it would cost us the same as we pay into the EU now, but we'd have no say in anything!

It's so ridiculous. If this had been written as a soap opera everyone would think it too far fetched.

BlueEyeshadow · 28/06/2016 22:56

I've been crying again this evening. DH is a mess. The country's a mess. I want my country back - the nice, tolerant, friendly one. I don't want to be a laughing stock. I don't want to live in interesting times. I want my children to be able to travel, and I bloody well want some way of drumming into people that they've been lied to, and to make the liars admit to their lies and be punished for them.

KERALA1 · 28/06/2016 23:04

Same blue. I haven't slept properly since finding out. Recently visited Berlin - such a cool open friendly place feels like we are living in a bigoted little England and have rejected all that's good about Europe so much concentration on its supposed faults.

Sounds like we have to accept free movevent anyway to be able to trade so what the hell has been achieved? We will be in the same situation as before except out of the club making the rules. Seeing fuckwit far age being so rude to the Europeans made me feel so,ashamed that he is representing us. The lunatics have taken over the asylum.

HelenaDove · 28/06/2016 23:08

Im a Remain voter as is my 66 year old DH (im 43) we are both social housing tenants. We live in a market town in Essex which voted Leave 33000 to 52000.

im finding this scary.

Someone posted on another thread that some new social housing builds and affordable builds have been cancelled due to Brexit.

DH and i voted Remain because we care about workers rights womens rights and the rights of disabled people.

I think a lot of Leave voters simply didnt get how much the EU does for us in terms of rights and funding.
