Brexit

The weather is on the side of the people

Chucking it down in the East of England. Storms last night. Senior Remain campaigners phoning in minute by minute weather updates to Brussels. To say there is despair among the elite is to do the English language injustice.

Brexiters were out in force, soaked to the skin, some were being carried to the polling booths. As we said "good morning" to each other, there were mentions of "Independence Day" with laughs and winks.

Some Brexiters looked to the Heavens as they chucked down rain upon us and smiled. The Heavens were on our side.

Your little rant earlier was grown up?

Lweji · 24/06/2016 07:28

And I hope you don't end up with Boris at the helm.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 24/06/2016 07:30

We will end up in the UK.out of the EU with BJ for PM and Trump in the US.
Everything I have ever not wanted.

claig · 24/06/2016 07:30

Vernon Bogdanor and Corbyn are saying that Article 50 should be invoked now. The banks and a lot of the political class want to delay the invocation.

Corbyn still doesn't get it. Labour will decline unless they change. They can't keep saying the same old things, the people have rejected that.

I think Chukka & Steve spoke a lot of sense earlier on tbh.

They both really seemed to get it.

claig · 24/06/2016 07:44

Yes, but I am not sure Chuka really can change or that Labour can. Steve Hilton already has changed by ditching Cameron and going against his friend.

The entire political class now needs to change their ways and adapt to the new reality and the popular will.

OP posts:
claig · 24/06/2016 07:46

Change is extremely difficult. We will have to see which party is capable of having the courage to change. It won't be easy for them because for years they have been set in their ways.

Woke up to complete shock, can't believe it. All I can do is hope that the Leavers were right after all.

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 08:54

It's a leap of faith, but a lot of changes heading our way that are long overdue.

BillSykesDog · 24/06/2016 09:12

Actually Claig, although I don't normally agree with Corbyn I actually had a great deal of respect for how he conducted himself during this campaign. In particular, the fact that he refused to tell working class Labour voters that they would be financially better off voting 'in'. He knew it wasn't true and he wouldn't say it.

No matter what you think of his politics his own personal integrity is pretty much beyond doubt.

claig · 24/06/2016 09:19

BillSykesDog, I agree on a personal level, Corbyn is alright. The problem is he doesn't really understand the enormity of what has happened and still thinks he can say it is all about not undercutting wages and exploitation etc. His whole life, as well as Chuka's and all the rest of them apart from Kate Hoey, John Mann and Frank Field, has been based on thinking that has now been completely and utterly rejected by a huge number of Labour voters. I don't think Corbyn, Chuka and the rest can change because the leap is a step too far for them, just as Cameron, Soubry and the other useless Tories can't change either.

There has been a wholesale rejection of the entire Establishment by the people and now something completely new will have to emerge. I think Corbyn is a good guy but he is now old news, not capable of adapting to the popular will.

OP posts:
claig · 24/06/2016 09:24

Kate Hoey or John Mann should be made Labour leader and then they would stand a chance, but the Establishment won't give up and will try to promote its favourites like Chuka and that is why Labour will decline. The people rejected all of them and all their scares and warnings, the people won't be fooled again.

I hope the Tories let Gisela help with the negotiations. Would really help to have a German speaker on the team.

claig · 24/06/2016 09:37

I think the negotiations should involve a cross-party team from Labour, UKIP and the Tories, all of the Brexit politicians but not the Remainers. It is a national thing rather than a party thing.

Milly - Nigel speaks German. Grin

Limer · 24/06/2016 10:10

This is fantastic, so many people smiling! Just cashed in my £60 winnings Grin

A few doomsayers - but the response to them is, "What price democracy?"

Labour must be seriously regretting not listening to their core voters.

claig · 24/06/2016 10:19

'Just cashed in my £60 winnings grin'

Well done. I didn't think they would really let us do it. It is a real victory for the people and for democracy.

Thanks claig Will be spending it while celebrating over the weekend.

For the last ten years I've known in my heart of hearts that one day the British people would reject the "bread and circuses" that the political elite have subdued them with for so long.

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 11:01

I am genuinely optimistic & happy too!

I couldn't believe it when it got called, I honestly though remain would edge it.

glassgarden · 24/06/2016 11:06

The British public saw through all the project fear bullshit, and are not going to stand for all that finger wagging from Obama and juncker

BillSykesDog · 24/06/2016 11:10

I'm optimistic for the medium term. I think there are probably some choppy waters ahead, but not as bad as Remain are claiming.

Put it this way, I'm not expecting WW3, mobs out on the streets, general anarchy, the Ebola virus and Godzilla just yet.

MangoMoon · 24/06/2016 11:15

We should always keep a weather eye out for the hordes of undead though.
To ignore their very real threat is foolish.

glassgarden · 24/06/2016 11:16

and thank goodness we have proper politicians and dont have to put up with this kind of nonsense

claig · 24/06/2016 11:25

Yes, glassgarden. I have been impressed with our political class. They have accepted the people's will with very good grace and humility, even though most of them were against it. The people are sovereign.
