Hello everybody, starting a thread for parents with children who have applied for 10+ this year.

OP posts:
Daydreamscometrue · 07/01/2023 16:57

Did anyone sit the 11 plus at Whitgift yesterday?

Yes, My boy sat the exam yesterday.

Daydreamscometrue · 07/01/2023 18:29

@AC7001 How did he find it? My DS said the critical thinking was harder than he expected but English and maths were okay.

They are generally easier than Trinity (which in turn is easier than the difficult Hampton papers). But then would probably expect higher marks.

My son also said critical thinking is the harder part and is really mainly VR and NVR (despite this creative name).

Daydreamscometrue · 07/01/2023 18:59

@AC7001 yes I wasn't sure what to expect with the critical thinking paper. Where does your DS want to go?

He wants to go to St Paul and then Hampton. We both reckon the chance of St Paul is very slim, while Hampton, got through to the interview stage which was done yesterday.

What about yours?

MaryBoppins · 07/01/2023 19:09

My son did the Whitgift and Trinity 11+ this week. He seemed to think they went well but that worries me to be honest! We have no idea if he has what it takes to get an offer
He's definitely bright but at a primary school and we don't have anyone to compare him against.

Daydreamscometrue · 07/01/2023 19:11

@AC7001 congratulations on the Hampton interview! St Pauls have the written papers on Tuesday? My DS isn't sure. He enjoyed his interview at KGS and has one at LU on Tuesday so it will be good for him to spend time there. Did you do Tiffin too?

Daydreamscometrue · 07/01/2023 19:12

@MaryBoppins my DS is also at a state primary. I think it's really difficult to predict.

AC7001 · 07/01/2023 19:13

I think the Math and English papers for both are relatively easy (compared to say Math paper in Hampton and English paper in King's), while VR for Trinity and Critical Thinking for Whitgift are a bit harder but still not very hard (compared to say Hampton). But then, I think both schools expect high marks.

Yes, will do St Paul on Tuesday, but honestly, I think it is even much more selective than Hampton. I only asked him to try his best.

He did sit the Tiffin exam, and the stage 2 papers are very hard, especially the Math paper, similarly hard as Hampton but more time pressured.

Daydreamscometrue · 07/01/2023 19:45

@AC7001 yes my DS said the same about the Tiffin papers. Both were very hard. Did you do Kings?

MaryBoppins · 07/01/2023 19:47

Wish we could've done KCS or St Paul's but they are too far away for us. We applied for Dulwich. It's all incredibly nerve wrecking! We sat the Dulwich exam in December and they said they would hear back about interviews by the 16th Jan. It's a long time to wait. Anyone else do 11+ at Dulwich?

Daydreamscometrue · 07/01/2023 20:05

@MaryBoppins yes we did Dulwich too!

Daydreamscometrue · 07/01/2023 20:06

KCS is also too far for us. We would have tried though.

Will your DS also sit St Paul on Tuesday?

Yes my DS also sat King's. He felt he didn't do very well in the English paper. Also, admittedly it is even more selective than Hampton and like St Paul, both are a bit more than aspirational for us. Our most realistic targets are Hampton and Trinity.

Daydreamscometrue · 07/01/2023 21:59

@AC7001 no we didn't do St Paul's. I wasn't sure it was going to be right for DS at the time of applying. I didn't want the rejection so tried to apply to schools I thought he'd stand a chance with. Very few from his state primary make the cut for St Paul's.

Daydreamscometrue · 07/01/2023 22:00

@AC7001 when do you find out about Kings?

AC7001 · 07/01/2023 22:23

@AC7001 when do you find out about Kings?

Not yet. They will advise if invited to interview on Jan 16.

Don't understand how could they take so long.... 1.5 months after the exam!!
