Hello everybody, starting a thread for parents with children who have applied for 10+ this year.

Hi AC7001, it’s neither. It’s more like problem solving verbal questions. For example x is 4 years younger than b and b is 5 older than z. Z is 12 years old, how old is x etc.
or figure out a direction ( N,W,E,S) from a description.
At 10+ they had 20 questions for 30 minutes.
I don’t think they are particularly difficult but they have very little time to figure them out so I think it is testing their natural ability and concentration skills as this was after the 2 hours English and Maths.

Thank you so much.

Good luck AC7001. How are you prepping your DS?

Thanks for starting the thread.. DS went for 10+ and yes he found Maths hard.
Now waiting for results.. Fingers crossed..
Anyone enrolled for Sports Scholarship? Does anyone knows how many sports scholarship's Whitgift gives and percentage range?

Mumisoneofmynames · 27/12/2022 16:02

Best of luck all! We went through this last year and my DS is now at Whitgift (we did the 11+).

Critical Thinking was introduced in our year I believe - it’s linked to problem solving. Get your child to do little challenges around that topic just so they can think in a methodical way and have the skills to solve. Even if they don’t get the answer right, the method is equally as important.

Regarding Maths for those at 11+ level (sure or applies to 10) - make your boys show the working out! If the school has to re look at the paper when making a decision to short list your son versus another boy - the working out makes the difference if the boys are presenting similar. By reviewing the paper, they can see that a child knows the math but basic error happened which is much better versus minimal working out!

Thank you so much mumisoneofmynames!

Hi all, I took a look at the Whitgift 10+ email and they mention "Interviews will be held at Whitgift between 13 January 2023 and 25 January 2023". Hopefully that means we'll start to hear this week! Although how odd to be starting interviews on a Friday.

We've lost the bit of paper from Trinity so I have no idea when we can expect to hear from them! Although the website mentions that music scholarship assessments will start on 16th. Surely they won't bother calling people in for scholarship assessments if they've not passed the exam?

SoupDragon · 03/01/2023 10:26

how odd to be starting interviews on a Friday.

They interview at weekends too. They have to fit lots in. I think they basically start when the school term starts.

London2007 · 03/01/2023 13:50

This is my understanding too. They will start calling on Monday the 9th those who will have the interview on the 13th and so on. They are doing this every year so I am sure there is a system in place. Just have to be patient until next Monday, the earliest….
Happy new year to everyone!

London2007 · 03/01/2023 14:42

Does anyone have an idea of how many boys did the Whitgift 10+?
I was under the impression that it’s around 200 who sits the exam each year. When they were dismissed after the exam a group of boys ( maybe around 20?) came out a good 15 minutes earlier than the rest of them and whoever was with them called out that another 120 boys will follow shortly.
My DS said there was 144 in the main hall.
Was there an afternoon exam too?

Zebisko · 03/01/2023 16:11

There were roughly around 150 cars or so for 10+.
Don't think there were any other test slots that day.
DS said he had 100ish in his hall (& probably 2 other halls).
60 places are on offer for 10+?

London2007 · 03/01/2023 17:46

Maybe there were fewer boys this year then.
I think it’s a max 60 places for offer. They won’t necessarily offer all these places.

Zarazara10 · 03/01/2023 19:36

Hi
can someone guide me plz about 10+ . what is the best resource to use for preparation.
thanks

Limemelt · 05/01/2023 13:02

Just curious if anyone has received information regarding interviews/acceptance?

user1473290348 · 05/01/2023 16:11

Nothing here. I'm expecting next week.

OP posts:
user1473290348 · 05/01/2023 16:12

Did your DS apply to Whitgift/Trinity or both Limemelt?

OP posts:
Limemelt · 05/01/2023 16:25

Yes both. I thought they all said by the 9th but I could be wrong. Was curious if the “by date” was due to making offers to top performers first or just when they have finished assessing all exams/applications as a whole. I suspect that information is not shared- anyway will just be nice to know if it’s back to the drawing board or prepping for interviews.

user1473290348 · 05/01/2023 16:42

I think Trinity said they will start advising next week of either outcome. And Whitgift said they would be in touch from next week. At least that's how I read it. Has your DS applied for any scholarships? I'm not sure if they contact separately about going in for those assessments.

OP posts:
Limemelt · 05/01/2023 17:17

Oh, thanks for the info on Whitgift. We did apply for sports scholarships and I have the sports assessment dates as 16th for Whitgift and 17th for Trinity. This overlaps with the interview dates of 13th-25th Jan for interviews for Whitgift and 9th Jan to 3rd Feb for Trinity. Did you apply to both and for any scholarships as well?

user1473290348 · 05/01/2023 22:17

We applied to both but no sports scholarships for us.

Hoping everybody has good news.

OP posts:
user1473290348 · 06/01/2023 14:31

My friend's neighbour heard. So I guess news is coming out now! Good luck all! I haven't heard yet. If you have, grateful if you could post and share.

OP posts:
drizzledon · 06/01/2023 15:18

Thanks for the update! We've still not heard from either school

London2007 · 06/01/2023 16:24

Which school have they heard from? Trinity?

maybein2022 · 06/01/2023 16:25

@user1473290348 was that for Trinity or Whitgift? Thanks.

user1473290348 · 06/01/2023 19:36

I'm not sure which as the mum didn't tell me directly. But I know her DS sat both and some central London ones too. But I'm pretty sure it wasn't the central London ones.

OP posts:
London2007 · 06/01/2023 21:01

Well, I assume some of us will hear from Whitgift on Monday. My DS asked today, he hasn’t mentioned anything since the day he sat the exam so I was quite surprised.
