10+ exams Trinity and Whitgift 2023 entry

Hello everybody, starting a thread for parents with children who have applied for 10+ this year.

It seems everyone got the same email. That will be a very short notice for some for a Thursday interview…..

There were just about 4-5 slots combined for 13th & 14th for those shortlisted in first group, probably based on percentile.

DS got shortlisted in second group and slots for that group is in 2nd half of next week.

Third group slots are available the week after.

W11+ folks, majority of your slots are next week (16th) onwards.

@Zebisko what makes you think the groups are on the basis of percentile in the exams? I've not heard that mentioned elsewhere. Would that mean that early groups are potentially up for scholarships? I'm confused because I thought Whitgift did a special scholarship assessment morning/day, but perhaps that's only for 11+?

We are still waiting to hear and knowing it’s been 1 hour makes us nervous.. anyone else waiting or all got it.

I agree with Drizzeldon, just wondering how you worked out it’s based on percentiles? Also, did you DS apply for a non-academic scholarship?

The group sizes, and available interview slots, grow as you move from 1 to 3.
It is my 'finger in the air' guess that interviewees are grouped based on percentile, and possibly scholarship.

There is no group 3 in W11+, just groups 1 & 2.

Although DS played U10 hard ball cricket at club level last season & plays Violin grade 2 (+choir+recorder), we didn't bother with additional scholarships. We had too much going on as a family when we applied, didn't want to make it more tedious by filling more forms.

I don’t think this is right on the no of slots. Without wanting to be too outing we have an interview on one of the first two dates you mention and there were 4 slots available on that date for us to select from

@Zebisko although you may be right about the percentiles and suggestions of group numbers, there are plenty of hopeful parents and kids and we can’t be sure how outcomes are being decided so it would be nice if this could be remembered. Nevertheless, congratulations to your DS.

I wouldn’t try to read anything into the order of being invited. None of us knows how they worked it out. There are boys who will be invited early and there will be kids who will get the invitation towards the end . It does not mean anything.
I read it in previous years forums that there isn’t any guarantee for anything. You can be interviewed early and not getting a place and you can be interviewed last and walk away with a big scholarship.
There will be boys in each group who will specifically be in that particular group to be seen maybe because they want to clarify if the child just had a bad day ( scored low but school report shows strength in maths?) and another child sees the same teachers as a potential scholar?
Remember, whatever slots are not picked up today will be offered to another boy maybe tomorrow.
Have some patience and be kind to each other.
The ones who haven’t heard are anxious enough.

Another long wait.. good luck all.. we are still yet to get any news. We applied for Sports Scholarship also (which I believe is on 16th) .. anyone who received invitation also applied for sports scholarship?
