I have always made my feelings clear about private schools but the family has been working on me again and have ordered a proespectus for a private school that I have been idly flicking through and I have fallen in love with it and even - and this is a big deal for me - looked at the website.

For me this is a huge step and I am feeling sick with guilt, so guilty in fact that I have just re planned all my lessons tomorrow for my classes as some kind of penenance.

I need other socialist guardianistas to take me in hand.

I can think of one, havent seen her on tonight.

you can't tell a good school from a prospectus - those things are designed by professionals to entice. If you wish to be terrible liberal and keep an open mind then you should go and take a look around.

How will you feel guilty for sending your kids to a good Catholic school? I guess Catholics do guilt well. How about a BAD Catholic school, if they exist....

Tricky one. Have socialist principles and work as a nurse in the NHS. Used to say I would never leave for the private sector. Less sure about that now as the NHS becomes increasingly corporate but retains crap conditions for workers. However, re education - like you have always vowed ds would never go to a private school. Changing my mind about that would disturb me on a major level If you're still torn, the suggestion someone made to visit the school sounds like a good idea. Are the state alternatives dire?

dd already goes to a good state catholic school and I get the odd guilty twinge but this is a whole new ball game of guilt.

I can't give you any advice as I have already gone over to the dark side. I am now regretting this decision for although ds's school is excellent in almost every way I am just about to have to cope with eight weeks of summer holiday.

State alternatives are not dire, they are good infact and dd would survive at any school, she has said she would go to the school I teach in which is considered by some, not me, to be dire and I would be fine with that as I know she will do well wherever she goes.

To be honest it is the spiritual side of the school that appeals to me as I am not sure that the local catholic secondary meets my faith requirements, I just don;t think you can beat a jesuit education.

dd, she wants to go as we have been before but she also wants her friends to go. She also wants to board which I have tried not to take personally.
