Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has a DS doing the 7+ or 8+ exam for some of the London day schools, like St Paul's Juniors, Westminster, or Kings. My DS is doing the 7+ and the first exam is on December 1st (St Paul's). I think I have a fairly good idea of the exam structure but, of course, I would welcome any top tips - as well as company from a Mumsnet support group, as we go through this! Good luck to everyone!

Good luck, Fiona!!

Cadeaux · 03/12/2019 21:56

@fionaming how did it go?

Sleepoveritmum · 04/12/2019 00:20

@Doubleclick2020 @fionaming
How did it go? How was the day structured?

fionaming · 04/12/2019 06:39

Thanks everybody. They did two lessons and group activities. He enjoyed the whole process according to him. I didn't not ask much because he normally says he could not remember Sad. We also met the head who is very nice and friendly. She told us his ranking in each subject and overall ranking which are all decent. Very long hours for us, 7 hours including driving. We don't have any exam before new year. Hope all of us get good results.

One more thing is another mum said they invited back 150 which I was not aware. Not sure if it is the case

Cadeaux · 04/12/2019 08:20

thank you @fionaming
Good luck to everyone!

Lolakath19 · 04/12/2019 10:15

When are you supposed to find out the results?

Heist · 04/12/2019 12:01

Results will be posted on 13th Dec (Friday), letters should come in by Monday, the 16th

fionaming · 04/12/2019 13:26

The letter said the result will be sent before or by 13th. I tried twice today to call them but kept sending to voicemail. Do not sure if all people get the results the same day

fionaming · 04/12/2019 13:36

I somehow remember I was told once they will send an email before the post re the offer. It would be good to know if it is the case.

Sleepoveritmum · 04/12/2019 15:20

150 is a big number to call back for interview Confused

Heist · 04/12/2019 16:26

Ms Shaw mentioned on more than one occasion that about 100 kids will be called back. Do not think that they will call 150

congrats to all those that were called back. Do your son goes to pre-prep school and would you mind sharing which one? Did the school gave them a lot of extra work? Do any of you use a tutor for Maths or English? or did you have to do some extra at home?
Would appreciate if you could come back to me (maybe in PM if you don t want to share in here directly). ANother quitestressed mum ahah

quitestressed78 · 05/12/2019 16:11

Did anyone find out when results might be? My son doesn’t go to a prep school, we didn’t tutor but did exampaperplus and bonds books at home. Did most work from summer holiday time onwards.

fionaming · 05/12/2019 16:45

We are not in a feeder either. Preparation is necessary but only the last a few months is enough. We try to read everyday which I believe is very important. We don't have a tutor and I help him when I have time. If a child has to go through a lot of tutoring to pass, he may have problems when he gets in. Prep schools do offer more help but if you are from other schools you also stand a good chance.

newmummycwharf1 · 05/12/2019 19:37

@fionaming @quitestressed78 - not in feeders but are you in independent schools that have a more focused approach? I ask because I am not sure it is possible to be at the level required for WUS/St Pauls following the National curriculum in a regular state primary - without a tutor or lots of focused parental academic push simply because the pace is much slower in the early stages or am I wrong?. I am interested as we may be going down the 7+ path in 2 years and worth knowing what is realistic

quitestressed78 · 06/12/2019 19:29

If not in a prep school then it is inevitable that you will need to do some work at home as they simply won’t have covered the curriculum. This includes independent schools not preparing for 7+ entrance exam. More work will be needed from a state school but it is probably very possible. I would think also that schools would think favourably of a student with a high score from a state school versus a DC with the same score from a top prep school.

Tingting01 · 10/12/2019 21:26

I would be interested in knowing (for precious years) if anyone didn’t get an interview at SPJ but managed to get an offer from WUS?

Tingting01 · 10/12/2019 21:28

Sorry I meant for previous years ...

pepperup · 10/12/2019 22:10

Not this year but I've known it in the past!

Tingting01 · 10/12/2019 22:23

Thank you @pepperup.. I feel the 7 plus has more an element of randomness in it as they are so young, and anything can happen...

Heist · 11/12/2019 09:29

2 days to go before SPJ result email, anyone else getting anxious

organiccoffee · 11/12/2019 09:47

@Tingting01 yes, i know someone in previous years. and also vice versa, boys who received SPJ offer but didn't make it to WUS interview.

Tingting01 · 11/12/2019 12:32

Thank you @organiccoffee...
