Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has a DS doing the 7+ or 8+ exam for some of the London day schools, like St Paul's Juniors, Westminster, or Kings. My DS is doing the 7+ and the first exam is on December 1st (St Paul's). I think I have a fairly good idea of the exam structure but, of course, I would welcome any top tips - as well as company from a Mumsnet support group, as we go through this! Good luck to everyone!

Have the results for St Pauls and WUS come back as yet? We are holding a reserve list place for King's and just wonder what the timeframe for hearing any news might be?

Claudiesmummy · 30/01/2019 21:02

Clearcalm we are also on the reserve list have you heard anything yet? Spj and wus have apparently made their offers now. I e mailed last week and was told that there should be movement shortly but they did not confirm when they would be making any reserve list decisions.

clearcalm · 31/01/2019 09:41

Claudiesmummy Haven't heard yet. Similarly to you the school said today was the day that they would have confirmation of anyone not accepting there place, then they move on to working through the reserve list. Fingers crossed!Smile

Claudies mummy and Clarcalm,
Are you both on the reserve list for Kings or St Paul's?

Nestess · 31/01/2019 11:11

I know someone has accepted at WUS and St Paul's Junior and paid for both. Clearly one little boy can't go to two schools so there will be movement at one of those schools ...

Claudiesmummy · 31/01/2019 13:11

Clearcalm thanks for replying - the waiting without knowing when you are waiting until is like torture. Good luck!
EmmaDavid we are on the reserve list for kings. Didn’t apply to wus or spj as too far for us.
Nestess Shock

If that helps, I know for sure kings reserve list has started moving.

Claudiesmummy · 31/01/2019 17:02

Thanks organic coffee! is that 8+ or 7+? I’d just rather know one way or another but don’t want to keep hassling them

organiccoffee · 31/01/2019 17:13

It's for 7+, but I know personally someone who will give up kings 8+ offer, so if they didn't over offer, 8+ list should be moving too.

Natachatte · 01/02/2019 13:11

@organiccoffee, Hello! Do you know if your friend has already given up Kings 8+ offer? Heard the waiting list was now closed Sad

organiccoffee · 01/02/2019 13:24

Yes, she has. Should have declined a week ago.

clearcalm · 01/02/2019 13:43

Hi @natachatte when you say the waiting list is closed, what did you mean? I thought that technically the list stays open until the new term starts in September?

Natachatte · 01/02/2019 13:52

Thanks organiccoffee. @clearcalm, you are right it is still open but they have offered all the available space for now. I understand it is unlikely someone will give up a seat now

wishthiswasmorefun · 03/02/2019 20:15

@Nestess, sorry to barge in, just clutching at straws...would you have any idea whether the family who have accepted both WUS and St Paul’s have decided...to scared to hassle any school at this stage, thank you

Nestess · 03/02/2019 22:22

Sorry not to give hope, I don't know these people, my friend at WUS told me someone she knew had accepted both. No I don't know why they would do that because you can't go to two schools and there are lots of people biting their nails, hoping. So fingers and toes crossed for you.

wishthiswasmorefun · 03/02/2019 22:36

@Nestess, no worries, was lovely of you to share, thank you xxx

clearcalm · 04/02/2019 12:54

Hi @Claudiesmummy, you are very right. How did you get on?

Claudiesmummy · 04/02/2019 14:36

Hello clearcalm I spoke with admissions who have allocated all available places at present at Kings. So it looks like we’re heading to 8+ (and the rollercoaster all over again Grin). They were encouraging that if a boy made it into the reserve list he is academically able to thrive there. Mine is summer born so perhaps that had an impact. What about you?

User5555 · 09/02/2019 23:54

We are heading for the 8+...spoke to school, and they were keen to advise 8+, but am terrified that it will be even more competitive next year. Even fewer places at 8+...can anyone advise where are good places to do 8+ schools-and what to do if we end up on the WL or no offers next year? Heard Brexit will increase competition not reduce it!

fusioluxe · 10/02/2019 00:06

For those that have been or are going through it (and good luck to all) at what age should studying start for the 7+ do you think?

fusioluxe · 10/02/2019 09:03

Hopeful bump

whatisit12345 · 10/02/2019 20:43

@fusioluxe we started in Jan (year before) and did 15-20 mins every other day. And more during term holidays. Summer holidays we worked a bit more, say 30 mins in the morning and same in the evening. Started proper 1-2 hours during Oct term holidays and November doing mock exams. Hope it helps. Got two offers out of three.

fusioluxe · 10/02/2019 22:41

Thank you so much whatisit12345, that is helpful.

User5555 · 10/02/2019 23:20

Would you mind sharing which resources you used? And for which schools? Thanks so much
