Anyone still out there?!

OP posts:
bananadrama · 14/02/2014 11:58

Congratulations Mrs S! Now you have some decisions to make!
Ladymuck - we want to see what happens on March 3rd re. possible grammar school place. DS1 not happy about prospect of DS2 possibly going to T too! Just need to weigh up all the options, have another agonising wait 'til March now. Aagh - why is this time going so slowly!

keepingittogether · 14/02/2014 12:03

Congratulations to all with good news! To those waiting fingers crossed!

Just received an offer letter from W, my DS 11+. Apologies but I am disappointed as DS plays his sport at Academy level and the Scholarship offer is significantly less than the 30% we were hoping/praying for and the 50% we dreamed of. He was praised by the coaches, called back for further 'viewing' and on the day I was told how 'impressive' he looked by a 'coach'. DH was at work that day and is today!! The big issue we have is that we both work hard and our combined income is just over the bursary limit, the school fees are net income and even with the gesture from the school will wipe out a massive slice of income.

Life has been a long hard journey, but our desire for DS to have the very best opportunity is such that the hardship will continue and somehow we will need to scrimp and find the fees and hope that the school review it later. So last years camping trip in France will now be in the New Forest and my ageing car will have to chug along a bit longer.

Sorry to sound a bit down, I really am happy for DS but the reality has arrived and as we all do I must make him feel proud of his amazing achievement, while panicking in the background.

ladydepp · 14/02/2014 12:06

Post just arrived, all 4 schools offered DS a place Grin!!!!!

Full fees for 3 (Alleyns, DC, and Emanuel) with 10% scholarship for W.

Phew, so relieved.

Can't wait to hear more good news from you all!

ladydepp · 14/02/2014 12:08

Keepingittogether - that is really tough, I recall that others on this thread have said there might be leeway to negotiate an increase. Definitely worth a shot in your case I would say......and well done to your DS.

Mummynet29 · 14/02/2014 12:12

Good news for us as well....so proud of DS...can't wait to pick him up from school.

MrsSteptoe · 14/02/2014 12:15

Ladydepp Grin Brilliant
Keepingittogether Like you, now panicking at the commitment! But it's a realistic sort of panic, we are well prepared for this, and it's just a question of doing what we knew we'd have to do, IYSWIM. One foot in front of the other.

usualsuspect47 · 14/02/2014 12:22

Hello everyone - our post has just arrived.

Excellent offers from T and W - relief as it will make it easier to fund the fees. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Myriam35690 · 14/02/2014 12:28

Phew... postman took his time but worth the wait... we are in too! Still shaking... near full-fee offer from T; excellent offer from W... bursting with pride.

keepingittogether · 14/02/2014 12:28

Congratulations usualsuspect47 that is great news, well done to your DS

NeverBeRoyal · 14/02/2014 12:29

Hello, just stepping in to say well done to all the boys who have received offers.

And I have to say, MrsSteptoe, brilliant news for you and your son! Well done to Steptoe Junior !!!

Brownsugar3879 · 14/02/2014 12:34

Angry no post here yet!! I'm fed up of waiting!

Brownsugar3879 · 14/02/2014 12:36

Congrats everyone with offers. I'm very nervous!

LostinLondon · 14/02/2014 12:36

keepingittogether Your situation sounds almost identical to ours except that our DS has just been offered an 'Honrary' sports scholarship at W - which means sod all as doesn't seem to offer any financial discount!

Am so chuffed for DS - he's got into both W and DC but the reality is, without that sports scholarship, W is probably a no go - so I'm pleased and not pleased at the same time.

keepingittogether · 14/02/2014 12:37

My friend whose DS also tried just called to say no offer of a place at W but an offer with 10% from T - confused as to the logic here.

My DS only wanted W so that is all we tried for, were advised to take T as well but ignored it as DS is so sporty. I never realise the schools differed as much.

Congratulations Myriam35690 is your DS going into Y7? If so see you in the car park :-)

Somelikeithott · 14/02/2014 12:38

Well done to everyone's DSs. Looks ike lots of celebrations tonight!!!!
Keep the good news coming.

Brownsugar, call the schools....

Matlow · 14/02/2014 12:39

Offer from St Dunstan's. Massively relieved and happy. Can't wait to tell DS. Congratulations to everyone.

ClaraMaugham · 14/02/2014 12:42

Another lurker coming on to offer my congratulations - your DS's are all clearly brilliant! Really happy that the long wait has paid off so well for you all. Have a great celebration this evening!

MrsSteptoe · 14/02/2014 12:49

Matlow thrilled for you. I know how much you wanted St Dunstan's. Happy days.

ladydepp · 14/02/2014 12:49

Keeping it - I have a friend with DS at T on 10%, I think he's in y9 or 10. He sat W but got a big fat No. I thought that was weird too.

Myriam35690 · 14/02/2014 12:51

keepingittogether - yes - should have been clearer - DS will be in Y7 in September.

MrsSteptoe - woohoo! Congratulations and massive well done to SteptoeJunior!

ladydepp · 14/02/2014 12:51

Thanks Clara!

Well done to all, hope the slow posties get a move on for those who are still waiting.....

dippingbackin · 14/02/2014 12:51

Keep trying to ring W, but admissions constantly busy...can't imagine why??!!

Have had a yes from Hampton, really pleased for DS.

Myriam35690 · 14/02/2014 12:53

This thread has kept me sane over the past few months - knowing I was not the only one going through this hellish process.... I must say how pleasant a read it is this morning... congratulations to all... cheers!

Hipster1 · 14/02/2014 12:54

Yep. I too have friends who have been offered a scholarship at one but nothing at the other. Can't work out the logic of that but the schools must know what they are looking for. I can't see that a boy can mess up an exam that badly if he is scholarship material? Especially, as in this instance, the boy was interviewed at both so must have passed?

LostinLondon · 14/02/2014 12:59

Has anyone heard of this Honorary sports scholarship they offer at W? My DS has been given one but there's no mention of financial help so don't understand the point of it.

Tried ringing W - left a message as suspect they may be rather busy! But would really like to know before I tell my DS the news.
