Anyone still out there?!

That's great, brownsugar!

LadyMuck · 22/01/2014 18:15

I think the fact that boys who didn't get interviews at Trinity have since had the chance to apply for and now sit for Royal Russell and Reigate would leave me feeling rather aggrieved had I just sat for W. But for those looking for certainty I think that in previous years Whitgift have started contacting no's around 31 January.

Great news Brownsugar! Is that 10+ or 11+?

In terms of the ice breaker for Trinity, out of the 3 boys with us, 2 had photographs (one of sport, the other of a play) and the third had brought along a 2 foot high trophy. The boys with photographs seemed to manage to get in and out of the rooms more easily.

Totally Proud of DD who received an academic scholarship interview letter yesterday from Alleyn's. I know I'm grasping at straws but does anyone know if that means we have an assured place at the school?

LadyMuck · 22/01/2014 18:59

Well done!

Strictly nothing is "assured", but it has got to be a a very good chance indeed Grin.

Apparently your dd would have to assault the head during the interview for them not to offer at least a place at this stage .. although it has very occasionally happened that dc invited for scholarship interview have not gone on to get a place the fact that she's got this far augurs well

irisha · 22/01/2014 19:57

DD got scholarship interview invitations from JAGS and Alleyn's, but a no to an interview from SPGS - please please tell me that she will at least get a place at JAGS/Alleyn's!

After SPGS letter today, I am fretting and being irrational about ending up with no place at all. And am in the US on business trip so can't even help DD to prepare for her interviews.

I need hand holding.

AliceLostinWonderland · 22/01/2014 19:58

Wow, well done for popkins and brownsugar
LadyMuck, thanks for the icebreaker tip! did you have your interview today? If yes, how did master muck feel after the interview. Hope all well.

petangyang · 22/01/2014 20:04

obviously got too much time on my hands to over-think things, but has anyone had experience of Dulwich College scholarship interview? Did they send a letter saying that the interview was for a scholarship or let you know when you got there/ or was it awarded without you even knowing you were in the running?

LadyMuck · 22/01/2014 20:14

He went in incredibly nervous, and left fairly relaxed and happy. I'm afraid that I don't tend to interrogate him afterwards - I prefer not to know! We all left with very positive impressions of the school.

Irisha I would second BasildonBond:- provided your dd doesn't have 3 heads or tries to attack someone at interview then you should get a place at one of the schools, and possibly being left with a tricky decision. They're both very good schools.

petangyang DS was offered a scholarship at Dulwich and we had no idea until the offer letter arrived at the usual time. The interview appeared to be exactly the same format as everyone else's and Ian Scarisbrick gave no indication that DS was in the running for one when he chatted to me when DS was in there.

irisha stop worrying! At the very least your DD will be offered a normal place at JAGS and/or Alleyn's. If she's at a level to be given scholarship interviews at both, there's no way she'll be turned down for a place (unless she did something terrible at the interview!). SPGS are a bit of a law unto themselves. To be fair to them I think they know which girls will thrive in what is, I think, a unique atmosphere. It is clearly a very successful school, but it isn't right for everyone.

MrsSteptoe · 22/01/2014 20:29

Surely even the multi-headed could rely on two scholarship interviews to result in a place. Naked aggression, I'll grant you, could scupper your chances.

AliceLostinWonderland · 22/01/2014 20:33

Oh irisha - getting a scholarship interview at JAGS and Alleyns is a great achievement.
Please don't worry, your DD will be great at the interview!

LadyMuck · 22/01/2014 20:37

Taking this a step further do any of the schools warn boys in advance of interview that they are up for a scholarship? Is it a boys v girls thing?

dippingbackin · 22/01/2014 20:50

Ladymuck....DS was told he had an academic scholarship interview at Hampton (I know not a school mentioned on this thread so maybe not relevant) but not at Whitgift. However the possibility of a scholarship was mentioned when I had a chat with the Head.

For anyone with a DS going to W for 11+ sports scholarship tomorrow, be prepared for a very tired boy at home time. DS was exhausted and very achy.

pooziepuzzle · 22/01/2014 20:58

Found you! Off to W for sports assessment tomorrow. Will prepare for meltdown !

I know W send their 'No' letters to people who haven't made it to interview very late. Have been on the other side too!

LostinLondon · 22/01/2014 21:01

dippinbackin My DS has 11+ sports assessment tomorrow at W. Was planning on taking him straight on to his usual footy training afterwards. Think this might be pushing it?

LadyMuck · 22/01/2014 21:05

lostinlondon I think it would be wise to consider risk of injury at this stage. A friends son is very sore after overdoing it following their assessment at Trinity, which hasn't helped them at Whitgift I suspect, and obviously there may be recalls.

LostinLondon · 22/01/2014 21:07

You may have a point LadyMuck. How do the callbacks work? I'd just assumed they'd decide on the day who would get the scholarships.

dippingbackin · 22/01/2014 21:08

lostinlondon...DS literally came home, had a shower and a bath (!), ate a pizza and sat in his PJs for two hours. He is usually very lively but today was really full on I think. He was a bit teary when he got back, sheer exhaustion I think. Also, it was my Dad that brought him home as I was at work and I think he may have grilled him for the entire hour+ journey home which frankly may have been more exhausting than the sports assessment!!

Your DS may well be raring to go however.

One other point, the letter said collect at 4pm, Dad got there at 3.30pm and the boys were all sitting there waiting. Some had already left. Maybe worth rechecking the plan for tomorrow. Glad Dad got there early otherwise DS could have been sat there forlornly until 4pm.

pooziepuzzle · 22/01/2014 21:13

Thanks about the heads up on the timings.

LostinLondon · 22/01/2014 21:14

Thanks dippingbackin. I'll make sure DH gets there early to pick him up. Wish I could go but working too. Sorry to hear your DS was teary! Hope he managed to enjoy the day and was just teary through tiredness.

dippingbackin · 22/01/2014 21:18

He really loved the day - I think it was all quite full on and on the back of three exams at different schools, plus interviews it has all been building up.

I think he also felt a bit frustrated as he said the teachers didn't really seem to be watching the boys when they were playing the sports in the afternoon. Clearly they must have been but who knows!! I obviously tried to figure out if they weren't watching him specifically (precious mother) but he said they didn't see to be doing much apart from chatting!!

LostinLondon · 22/01/2014 21:24

That's really annoying. Makes you wonder if they'd already made their minds up! Have you any idea how many sports scholarships they offer at 11+?
