Thought it would be nice to start a support thread on here about the wait for our DC getting into secondary schools. Anyone else glad the tests are all over?

bossboggle · 10/02/2011 19:16

To all of you parents out there waiting for results and letters for places in senior school - hope you're not biting your nails too much. I am so grateful that my final child is now in year 10 and I don't have to think about that any more.... however...uni perhaps...agh!!!

GORGEOUSX · 10/02/2011 20:00

Yes Bossboggle You don't get away that easy.... I've got a DD in year 10 too and it's now controlled assessments for 2 years LOL!

Madsometimes · 11/02/2011 11:10

Dd1 has been offered a place at our local GDST school today. I'm so pleased because she goes to an ordinary state school.

I was starting to believe the hype that only prep school children get offered places in selective indie schools especially because she cannot spell.

Grin and later on Wine.

GORGEOUSX · 11/02/2011 14:30

MadSometimes Brilliant news! Well done to DD - will join you for a celebratory Wine later (About 6.OO p.m. ok?) Grin Wink

CristinaTheAstonishing · 11/02/2011 16:50

Congrats to your DD, Madsometimes.

DS was offerred places at Sutton Grammar and Tiffin's so v pleased with that as well. He's chosen Sutton Grammar, we've just confirmed today. Again, from state primary and no tutoring (well, apart from what we did with him).

GORGEOUSX · 11/02/2011 17:58

Congratulations to you too! Well done to your DS. How come you found out today? I thought we wouldn't hear until 1st March. Confused

mary21 · 11/02/2011 18:05

Hi
We were told we wouldnt hear about tiffin till march 1st

andiem · 11/02/2011 18:25

the tiffin results don't come out until the 1/3 so how do you know cristina?

irisjohnson · 11/02/2011 18:30

Yes, I too would love to know how you know about tiffin.

GORGEOUSX · 11/02/2011 18:39

Sounds like ChristinaTheAstonishing is living up to her name. Grin

irisjohnson · 11/02/2011 18:43

It is quite funny to think of the panic this will cause across parts of London and surrey.

GORGEOUSX · 11/02/2011 18:45

Iris I was just thinking the same thing LOL! Grin

irisjohnson · 11/02/2011 18:50

If I didn't have to go out now I would be sorely tempted to mention it on the eleven plus forum ...

GORGEOUSX · 11/02/2011 19:00

Iris I've just been on there and there's no mention of it. I think ChristinaTheAstonishing is winding us up.

If not I apologise unreservedly. Grin

andiem · 11/02/2011 19:20

there will be people weeping and wailing because they think there is a problem with their post Grin

we are waiting for KGS and Hampton next friday gnash gnash

GORGEOUSX · 11/02/2011 19:29

Or weeping and wailing because they thought their DS was in top 50! LOL Grin

CristinaTheAstonishing · 12/02/2011 17:36

Many thanks! Very pleased with my son. I think they mark SEN children first (DS is deaf, has cochlear implants so they can get their statements sorted. We heard from the LEA rather than the school.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 12/02/2011 17:36

No, no wind-up :)

GORGEOUSX · 12/02/2011 18:43

Congrats again - you certainly picked the right name! Well done to your DS. Grin

willow · 12/02/2011 20:33

Surely a wind up? Not least because isn't it the case that you will only be offered your first choice of school (presuming you have passes the exam for it)?

basildonbond · 12/02/2011 21:03

the process for statemented children is different - completely different dates etc - I already know where ds2 is going (and basically have done since his annual review in y5)

willow · 12/02/2011 21:15

Are you offered a choice of schools if dc has statement then? only ask as friend has child who might be in similar situation and she thinks she will be limited to the first choice if it comes up.

Well congrats if not wind up, btw.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 13/02/2011 11:15

Willow - he had 3 choices like everyone else in the Borough. He sat exams for 2 of them and passed both. He went for his first choice. There was no mention that he'd be any more limited than anyone else and I think that's right. The exams dates and format was identical to everyone else, no special dispensation for him, apart from the use of a radio aid so he could hear the instructions. So you don't just walk into whatever school you fancy.

willow · 13/02/2011 11:41

Slightly different here: you list schools in order of preference (max 5); if any are selective you take the exam for them; you are then offered the "first" school (as per your list) that you have qualified for, although that might not be your first choice school. So, if you have taken and passed two grammar schools' exams you will only be offered the one that is highest on your list of preferences, iyswim.
