Thought it would be nice to start a support thread on here about the wait for our DC getting into secondary schools. Anyone else glad the tests are all over?

verybored

Thanks, and to MadameDefarge as well.

I hope it was just some fun - it's been a very long day if you are involved in allocations anywhere in the system - parent, volunteer advisor or employed in the system, and my sense of humour is probably failing horribly by now!

I did only come over here to apologise for the poor access to the site, and I am obviously having the same problems accessing it myself.

I congratulate everyone who has:

a) managed to get their allocation, despite the system;

b) got a scholl that their DC will be happy with

I commiserate with everyone who has not got what they hoped for. I was there once, and it does eventually work out, somehow.

Sally-Anne

That would be a school, not a clumpy wooden flip-flop with a bit of leather.

MadameDefarge · 01/03/2011 22:44

Oh sally Ann, no place for you in pedant's corner!

moscow · 01/03/2011 22:47

Hello..new to this site! Anyone on here in St Albans and already heard?

weblette · 01/03/2011 22:53

Sally Anne your site has kept me sane through a Bucks appeal for which I am so so grateful. Bucks system has been appalling tonight, still no email and only managed to get through to the proper page at 9pm. Stinky letters have already gone to the council....

sallyannetoo · 01/03/2011 22:53

Errrr - I have no idea what pedant's corner is?

Would that have anything to do with the me saying that a Scholl and a School are not one and the same?

Is that considered pedantic on MN?

Sorry!

MadameDefarge · 01/03/2011 23:03

It is the place on MN where we fret about misplaced apostrophes and suchlike! Wink

sunnydelight · 02/03/2011 05:04

OMG - I am now in Sydney and well away from the madness that is the UK school admissions system (though I had many years of it). It has taken me an hour (and 2 glasses of wine 'caus it's that time here Grin) to read all 33 pages. I have anxiously followed the outcomes for as as many people as I could possibly keep track of so congrats to those who have got what they wanted and huge commiserations to those who didn't. Sad I know, but I remember the stress.

swanriver · 02/03/2011 07:40

Ds1 got his first choice Smile (although tbh he liked all the first four schools on the list) Most people here have got their first choice school, although one friend has already has said that rather than accept their third choice school, they will be considering private school (which they also recvd offers from) Already there are divisions opening up about what people consider good or secondbest schools. I feel it is up to us to re-enforce the education they get, not just assume a school is not academic enough. If other children are happy there, that should be enough to make parents confident.

willow · 02/03/2011 08:22

Sallyanntoo - I think it's very nice of you to come on here and apologise. Thank you!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2011 08:43

:) thats good news swanriver.

AlmightyCitrus · 02/03/2011 09:04

Still nothing here. I've rung them and they say there is a problem with the website, they won't tell me on the phone and my letter was posted 2nd class yesterday so it will be with me "soon".
I'm rather miffed now.

gingeroots · 02/03/2011 09:16

citrus - only " rather miffed " ? I admire your restraint !
( like sunnydelight ,I'm so badly scarred from previous secondary school allocations that I'm lurking here and admiring all the strength and wit from people at such a cr*p ,stressful time )
How it can still be like this amazes me .
Wrong ,wrong ,wrong - not to mention cruel .

weblette · 02/03/2011 09:17

My stinky e-mail to the head of childrens services has been acknowledged... still no e-mail notification though.

Citrus - where are you?

september25 · 02/03/2011 09:25

does anyone out ther know what the secondary and primary catchment area is for Barton in Fabis Nottinghamshire.

raefil · 02/03/2011 09:25

Well here we go again, not for the first time one of my children has not got admittance to the CofE school of their choice, this despite meeting all of the schools published criteria.

It happend with another child of mine 2 years ago and we won on appeal. How crazy is all this? Another appeal system to go through and despite having 3 siblings at the same school, all acheiving well, my child has to go through the emotional upset of waiting to go through all this again.

Still waiting here: ds was at a hospital appointment yesterday when the letters were given out. We do need it to be the right school because of his medical condition, so we're going to have to appeal if he doesn't get it. Did it with dd three years ago, didn't enjoy it, but if I have to do it again I'll have to.

Hullygully · 02/03/2011 10:14

Fingers crossed, cory

GORGEOUSX · 02/03/2011 10:16

There are some unbelievable cock-ups aren't there? The 'system' could definitely do with a 'common sense application'. Really feel for people still waiting and people having to appeal - some, not for the first time. Sad

UnquietDad · 02/03/2011 10:24

Well done to those who got what they wanted, commiserations if you didn't.

I have experience of appeals panels, having been through it for DD at Primary, so feel free to ask me about it if you need to.
