Thought it would be nice to start a support thread on here about the wait for our DC getting into secondary schools. Anyone else glad the tests are all over?

Oh no! You poor thing. We're in Surrey - it's fierce here, I can tell you Shock.

I have just gone and done the opposite to you.... I didn't pull all the stops out .... and if she doesn't get one of her choices I'll be feeling guilty too.

Isn't it awful? Logic tells me it's ridiculous - it's not our fault if they don't get in is it? Surely, we'll be blamed for enough over the years to come, without adding this to the pile?Confused

No tests/selection here. No choice of school really either. Next ones approx 10 miles away & not much in the way of transport. large school in our town about 5 mins away so should be ok . Bit nervous though just in case (first time for secondary!)

GORGEOUSX · 24/02/2011 20:19

Nymphadora Pull up a chair and have Wine.

nymphadora · 24/02/2011 20:22

Thanks gorgeous (sounds like I'm on the pull!Grin)

GORGEOUSX · 24/02/2011 20:24

Toughasoldboots If your DD is happy you have absolutely nothing to feel guilty about.

Hopefully your DS will get into the school he's passed for, either in 5 days, or by September, by dint of a waiting list. Smile

OMG did I just say waiting list? After waiting since September?!!!!! Shock Wine Wine Wine

CointreauVersial · 24/02/2011 20:33

Thanks for the very useful info on Nonsuch, GORGEOUSX. It remains to be seen whether DD1 will even want to do the exam, but we will go and have a look around and get cracking on some VR practice.

Thank heavens we live in a place where we can "opt out" of the grammar madness if we want, and just choose a non-selective school; there are some good ones near here.

I'm now on the Wine by the way. In case you were worrying about me!Grin

That's right Toughas. There's also a lot of movement from the end of March, from DC turning down places in favour of indies, so lots of places will be available before the appeals.

I hope everyone does post on here after I've got all the chairs out and provided all those Wine Wine Wine Wine....

Even Cointreauversial is on it now.....Shock Wink

Just been reading this thread and now my stomach is churning ...

Can I join you all?

We will hear whether my eldest has a place at her preferred school on the 1st March too. I applied online and am horrified at the thought of only hearing at 5.oopm - it's like a form of torture!

No tests for dd but it's scary nonetheless. It's a RC school and we are within catchment (just) but I won't sleep a wink till I get that bloody email ...

Definitely Wine needed all round Grin

Congrats to all the children who have already secured their places - great news!

GORGEOUSX · 24/02/2011 22:42

plonkerr Welcome... have a seat and Wine. Which county are you in?

plonkerr · 24/02/2011 22:59

We live in Merseyside.

All dd's choices are in a different Borough though as we live on the border.

Thanks for the wine Grin

CupAndSaucer · 25/02/2011 07:51

Only 104 hours and 10 minutes to go......

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2011 08:45

flippin 'eck cupandsaucer you'll have me reaching for the Wine for breakfast!
even Mr cool dh said that although he wasnt nervous why did it have to be such a long wait?

CupAndSaucer · 25/02/2011 08:48

Sorry BadKitten Grin

Tuesday is going to be the loooooooooooongest day ever! FACT!

friendlyedjit · 25/02/2011 08:52

argh...south east london calling! I cannot belive it's jus all around the corner This has just been going on for ever. Startin wit all those viewings(torture) nd then form filling and then an odd exam...and now we're hurtling towards the answer that we want or don't. I like the theory that the only school on the form should be ones you'd be happy with sending your child to...so when the evelope/email is opened there s no apparent "oh dear"/"FFS" but it's just so hard really.
Good luck all...

nymphadora · 25/02/2011 09:10

I can't believe yhe difference all over the country regarding entrance tests/none/grammars/not/single sex/ mixed.

GORGEOUSX · 25/02/2011 10:20

friendlyedjit Sit down ..... here Wine.

Yes, I know it's early, but only

4 days to go........ Shock

GORGEOUSX · 25/02/2011 10:23

Cupandsaucer Am delegating -I'll count down the days and you do the hours Shock - counting hours and minutes down will give you something else to thing about Grin

Deaddei · 25/02/2011 10:24

Thought I'd check on your mental health GORGEOUSX.
