Help please, Buyer saying they received toilet paper not pram

Angelika321 · 25/01/2020 08:33

As above really. I sent a pram via courier sold for £300, but the buyer is telling me they received toilet paper.

Ebay are insisting I accept the return, (and then file an appeal) but I don't see why I should.

Do I have any recourse?

13kg of loo roll would be about 57 rolls, you could work out dimensions relative to your pram box... i presume they aren't planning to post 57 loo rolls back.....

I've just had 54 rolls delivered, and the package weight was just under 5kg, so the buyer would be looking at sending back close to 150 loo rolls. If it's them scamming the OP, they're going to be kicking themselves when it comes to sending the package back!

lljkk · 25/01/2020 16:30

How much did you sell this for, OP (rough figure if you prefer)?

Hermes definitely check the weight of items (I had to pay a penalty when I misweighed something, off by maybe 2kg).

I'm surprised OP's parcel was only 13 kg heavy.

It sounds like OP would be compelled to refund the buyer but then start a case with the courier.

Angelika321 · 25/01/2020 16:31

@Soontobe60 The time stamp is on the screen thankfully so the time the parcel was dropped up and then collected are on the screen and they correspond with the times on the tracking history.

Luckily I got to the shop when I did. They delete the footage after 4 days. Another 2 hours and it would have been gone!

I'm no Hercule Poirot but that's not the same parcel!

I really hope you get this sorted. I suspect it's a scammy buyer rather than a courier mistake.

Good luck Smile

Whynosnowyet · 25/01/2020 17:05

Do not let this go op!! Scam for sure. Cf buyer imo... Bet it isn't their first try either.

CointreauVersial · 25/01/2020 17:12

Ooh, I'm seething on your behalf, OP.
I put money on it being the buyer scamming you, and I really hope you don't have to refund them.

FourDecades · 25/01/2020 17:14

@Angelika321 your parcel clearly shows box edges and "solid" sides.

The delivered parcel has no identifiable edges and has obvious rounded sides

OrangeLindt · 25/01/2020 17:24

Ic you sent the item through Hermes I would put money on the Courier stealing it. Where I live there had been hundreds of parcels gone missing which the Police are now investigating.

BumbleBeee69 · 25/01/2020 17:28

good on you OP... for getting that CCTV footage Flowers

OrangeLindt · 25/01/2020 17:29

Crossed post just seen it was Hermes, I rest my case. Where are you OP? I stand by what I said about them. One Courier signed for 3 parcels in my friends name which she never received, he then kept the parcels and claimed his delivery payment fraudulently which apparently a lot of them do. Good luck sorting this out.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 25/01/2020 17:36

The CCTV clearly shows a box, the pic the buyer sent is not the same parcel at all.

thehorseandhisboy · 25/01/2020 17:36

Wow, that's fantastic that you got the CCTV footage!

Clearly not the same parcel.

Indicating that you will involve the police and send them these images to show that the parcel that sent wasn't the same one that arrived is a great idea.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 25/01/2020 17:46

This seems shadey as fuck op, hope you get to the bottom of it!!

zasknbg · 25/01/2020 17:56

Hope you get the money back op.
There are some horrible people in the world.

OnTheEdgeOfTheNight · 25/01/2020 18:00

It'll be interesting to hear how the buyer responds to your recent message. That should tell you all you need to know!

TwoPointFourKidsAndADog · 25/01/2020 18:01

I could send a 100g package as a more than 10kg one. Hermes would handle it without question.

Not true in my experience. I accidentally sent a package estimating a tiny bit over its nearest KG, and they contacted me for more money before they would send it, which delayed it by a day.

They definitely check.

Berthatydfil · 25/01/2020 18:07

It’s clearly not the same parcel - the pram box is square and you can see the packing tape, the rounded curved shape of the loo rolls show through the packaging and there’s no packing tape either.

TatianaLarina · 25/01/2020 18:24

Interesting. I’ve just claimed for a Hermes parcel that was picked up before Christmas and there are no tracking details after pickup. Hermes agreed it was lost and refunded me. I did wonder if the courier had just pinched it.

MissingMySleep · 25/01/2020 18:33

Re the weight, I have had to pay when I got the weight wrong, they do check it.
Also, ring ebay, and ring paypal, as I have found when people tried to scam me, that a call with someone, where you are being calm and sensible and have your proof to hand (your photos, the slip showing the delivered weight etc) goes to prove that you are not the dodgy one. They will also look at your past claims and the buyers past claims.
I have some dodgy people trying to rip me off, but each time paypal decided in my favour.
Good luck.

SunshineCake · 25/01/2020 18:34

Were your labels easy to peel off to restick on the fake new parcel ?

SunshineCake · 25/01/2020 18:41

The parcel you sent is bigger and a different shape in a very obvious way to the one the alleged scammers are saying they received.

ClappyFlappy · 25/01/2020 18:45

I think it’s clearly the buyer.

I’m never sold anything on eBay so not sure how they can make you accept the return and refund it? Sorry if I’m being a bit dim

fastliving · 25/01/2020 19:03

Ace you got the CCTV op - if eBay don't back you now I'll eat my hat - I agree ring the Irish call centre, they are really helpful.

I would also be ringing the police no that they will give a shit but it will give your 'buyers' a couple of sleepless nights.

Lipz · 25/01/2020 19:04

Why did the buyer take a picture of the parcel received unopened ? I can understand taking a picture of the parcel opened to show the contents are wrong but surely when people receive a parcel they open it immediately and not take photos of it in its original state.

It's clear there's a scam going on somewhere, glad you have this evidence. I would say it's the buyer.

nauticant · 25/01/2020 19:05

eBay write the rules of eBay and they're written to suit eBay. If you don't agree with how they apply the rules, you can suck it up, complain and (probably) get nowhere, or take eBay to court. eBay has a degree of control over Paypal and is able to force a refund whether you like it or not.
