Early Spring Clean : Anyone for a 400 pounds by Easter challenge?

Gameboy · 19/01/2007 13:44

Was listening to a radio programme the other day about making money from your old things and it made me realise how much stuff I've got 'waiting to go on eBay'.

Just wondered if anyone fancied a challenge to see how much we can each make from selling the unwanted stuff we have by Easter. I reckon I could get to about ?400 maybe?

We'd have to share our eBay names, and then keep a running total of everything we sell between now and 31st March?

For simplicity's sake I'd suggest we just tot up the totals invoiced (incl. P&P)rather than the net profit IYSWIM?
To include only unwanted items - not trading of new goods etc....

I thought if it became competitive it might spur me into action more !

Thanks girls!

I have broke the £400 mark - currently at £438.96 but of course need to deduct ebay fees, paypal fees and postage costs from that.... still, not a bad amount for a weeks work!

Still got one item left, which ends at 7.15pm with 5 watchers..... fingers crossed.

Loads to upload tonight from turbo lister too to end next sunday night, but nothing high value, just little bits and bobs!

cece · 28/01/2007 16:28

greenhouse now £50 and still got 4 and half hours to go!!!!! Very excited now! I was going to chop it up for firewood - MIL idea to put it on eBay!

nikkie · 28/01/2007 16:37

Is anyone saving for anything or is it pay debt off money ?

JARM · 28/01/2007 16:39

Not really saving for anything, although what we have made will pay for Jessi's new bed next week!

I also want a pair of GHD's now Ive sold my old pair, but that may need to wait as Jessi's bed comes first!

cece · 28/01/2007 16:45

DH and I decided we would use it to pay for a holiday this year. Didn't have one last year

katzg · 28/01/2007 16:51

we'e having an extension built at the mo, which has hit a major snag, so the money raised will go in the extension pot.

Have more stuff to add, so fingers crossed it keeps selling well

justbeme · 28/01/2007 16:57

Hi just sold some stuff - total now exl p & P is £107.65!!
But noticed - what a crafty lot of buyers they are!! Most bids were placed in the less than 1 minute time slot!! One item had 8 watching and only one bid with about 10 seconds to spare and another item had 4 watching and no bids
Its also amazing how far people drive to collect things!!

nikkie · 28/01/2007 16:58

I have loads of jobs to do at home but also have a big overdraft.

radcliffe · 28/01/2007 18:33

Jarm well done to you. Can you give the rest of us who are lagging any tips? Did you sell a pushchair if so did you do collect only or add postage?

nikkie · 28/01/2007 19:02

I'm listing some more stuff now on 7day to end Sun night as it seems to be one of the better times to end.

JARM · 28/01/2007 20:08

Hi girls

7 day auction
BIN or best offer/Auction

Sold 3 buggies, all at postage - 4th one is having a viewer on tuesday night, who has agreed to pay the BIN price and take it away there and then if he likes it.

It doesnt take much effort to pack up a buggy and use the £5.99 courier service - you can get away with charging £15 delivery and making a profit there. (plenty of bubble wrap around the wheels and a few black bin liners - hey presto!)

Have listed another pile of stuff tonight, all on 7 day auction this time with a BIN option. Turbo lister is fab for multiple listings.

katzg · 28/01/2007 20:17

i'm so tired this evening so idoubt i'll be listing more stuff tonight but think i'll do it on tues on a 5 day listing finishing on sunday, i only got bids in the lst 2 days, so you think 5 day listings sell as well as 7?

Gameboy · 28/01/2007 20:44

Wow Jarm - Fantastic!

?:¨¨:?.APPLAUSE.?:¨¨:?.APPLAUSE.?:¨¨:?.APPLAUSE?:¨¨:?.

I've made £70 on my first three things (ski wear) which is more than I was expecting, and have some more bits ready to list this week.

Like the idea about the 10% commission Charliecat .

Did anyone see the piece in the Sunday Times today? There are now 15 million eBayers in the UK, and eBay accounts for 10% of UK Internet usage. That's MASSIVE.

Wish I'd thought of the idea.....

JARM - I have a buggy to list - what's the £5.99 courier service you mentioned please?

charliecat · 28/01/2007 20:57

heres a cheap dude, but check weight and dimensions

nikkie · 28/01/2007 21:07

I have listed somemore tonight and my sold (not inc p&p) is £8 my selling is £48(not incp &p) and I have made £10 on here last night(inc p&p)
Problem is here is noone looks at the selling now do they?

tortoise · 28/01/2007 21:13

Ive got a pink mothercare stroller. Well used a fair amount of wear to back wheels. Do you think its worth listing it? (can i really put £15 postage then use ebay courier?)
BIN £10? Or less?

nikkie · 28/01/2007 22:00

I tend to put the p&p at slightly less than the similar items as when I buy I'm always aware when the p&p is expensive.I had a question tonight about a pilates stretch band (someone wanted to know if I'd do BIN) and when I looked it up people were selling for £4-5 (I paid 99p for mine) and £4 P&p (it will fit in a normal envelope!)

JARM · 28/01/2007 22:33

he's the one CC

Selective are also good - but you do need to check dimensions, although I have a great DH with superb packing abilities!!!

The stroller, BIN 9.99 i reckon with £10 postage - thing is they are only £30 odd quid new, so may not sell.

Didnt sell the Urban Detour tonight, but do have someone coming to view it on Tuesday so hoping he takes it away!

Just on the look out for more cheap buggies now as they are the way to go lol

FatFikAndFugly · 29/01/2007 09:22

morning, listed my first item last night on 10 day auction. Will list more this week so should be hopefully be able to start reporting some profit on here by the middle of next week.

fannyannie · 29/01/2007 09:36

well I now have £59 in my paypal account - last 3 items I had listed that finished yesterday didn't sell.

Spent £4 on padded envelopes, bubble wrap and parcel paper (can't think of it's proper name LOL) yesterday - bought 'bulk' of it so it works out cheaper. Need to print out 9 invoices from my PP account this morning and post them this afternoon. I think postage for those items is going to work out at about £15 so it's still £44 profit

Then I hope to have a look around and get some more stuff on - got a bureau that I'll put on buyer collects and some more bits and bobs lying around I'm sure.

camera · 29/01/2007 12:42

Ceolas · 29/01/2007 12:46

OK, can I join in late? I sold £67.39 last week (excluding postage) but am still waiting for payment for a cew items.

I have a few more to list this week. I tend to do a 5 day auction, starting on a Tuesday evening and ending on Sunday evening. Will post a link when I've done this weeks lot.

Well done everyone
