Anyone up for a "Pre- Christmas clear out" ebay challenge selling thread ?

The old New Year thread seems a bit dead so thought I'd see if anyone is up for a clearing space/generating funds for Christmas shopping e-bay challenge.

I have made a (secret) pledge that this year in our house we will get rid of a greater volume of stuff in the run up to 25/12 than we end up acquiring as this years incoming Christmas presents.

Not quite sure what target to set myself yet........ £300 over 3 months seems entirely do-able but if I really want to create extra space around the house I probably need to be aiming for nearer £500. This would nicely cover the cost of dc's presents and Christmas food bill too so would be a double incentive. I've just donated a large bag of men's clothing to a charity refugee assistance local collection

Anyone else ?

We could all have a min - max target range and award ourselves a score by how far along that scale we manage to get.

I will join you - I would like to make £250 to cover the kids presents and our annual pantomime trip.

Started by listing some things this morning. Going to do some more tonight. Have been using the iPhone app and love how easy it is.

I'd like to join in though I have no idea on how much I need to raise, We have set a £20 per person limit for Xmas this year for extended family, already bought 4 peoples presents in the sales which leaves 15 presents to buy (this is including all family, kids etc) so I suppose £300 would be a good aim. I have no idea if I have that much to sell though ha.

Know i have some new unworn things in the wardrobe which now i'm pregnant have no chance of fitting me so should get those listed. and 3 boxes of dvd's in the spare room which I keep meaning to put on music-magpie or something but instead just close the door and ignore them.

I checked out what music magpie would offer for my cd's/dvd's/console games and it was hardly anything so I've listed a load of them on e-bay. Only some have sold so far but for each one sold, the net amount I've raised has been about 5 times what I'd get from music magpie for the item so I'll wait and see what sells after a couple of 30 day listings on e-bay before cashing in the rest.

One of my ebay ID's has been given 100 free listings for this weekend so I'm preparing listings ready to start them then.

We've got just over 3 months so I'm going to aim for the £500 level so we can have a good Christmas without dipping in to savings. My secret weapon is a bookcase I want to sell as we have less books hanging around now that 2 of us got kindles for presents a couple of years ago.

Oh I'd like to join, i never manage to follow these threads normally. I've made £69 this week from the last of my maternity stuff in 3 bundles. Got another left on there, and some nursing tops that are too big on me.

I have just put aside three coats, some Clarks trainers from the dcs and a load of newborn stuff for a Syrian collection, which I'd prepped for ebay, but think will be much better purpose. my goal has been to try and list a few things every couple of weeks. (I realised I always check out other items people are selling, so try and put a few linked things on at the same time now, rather than say one a week).

I'm not sure I can make a huge amount, but £200 would be fantastic. If I feel I've got more stuff worth selling I may increase that as time goes on!!!

Really need a huge declutter. Dc3 is 1 next month, we don't need very much for him, but I'd like to reduce what's in the attic waiting for him, as well as the amount of stuff we've got. I don't think the dcs get real value out of their good toys as it gets lost in all the other stuff.

I have some good quality next babygros to sell, which seem to always sell if presented nicely (only time I ever iron a babygro ) and will root around for other stuff once I've given the 3 sacks for the appeal.

I might join you all on this to keep me motivated. So much clutter around the house and don't use half of it. Mainly baby and toddler clothes and some toys to sell as well as some box sets etc. No idea how much I'll get for it as seems to vary so much but will say £125-150 target as that would cover DS presents. Will try and get started this weekend...

I'm in. Going to have a sort through the garage, DH has a tendency to hoard. I have two iPhones that have been hanging around the drawer since Christmas, although one has a smashed screen. I'm on a mission now.

I'm currently trying to sell on Amazon (books) and facebook( kids stuff). Amazon is rarer things so I'm happy to wait for them to go but could do with some of the toys going.

Just added some jeans, dresses and a playsuit to eBay. Not expecting more than £30 for it all but it's a start.

My tops just made me £10.20 I've dropped 4 big bagfuls at the Syrian appeal centre, so now I'll try and get a few more bundles of stuff ready for ebay for Sunday.

I once read an article that said ebay has the highest volume of purchases on a Sunday night, so I always try and list then if possible. No idea if this is true or not however, as this bundle did pretty well!

I'm in. We are getting new carpets & I've been panicking about moving all our stuff around for months, so everything gone is a relief! I just got a 100-free-listings email today. People are buying stuff for Christmas already, aren't they?

Most of our things are cheap/second hand to start with so always get restricted when it comes to reselling price.

I have some stuff like that DocM's and try to offload it in bundles.

I sold 2 pairs of trainers as a job lot (consecutive sizes) which had been worn by 2 children so were third hand but it still raised a couple of quid after all expenses. Some of what I am selling will only net me £1.50 - £2 per listing but 20 of those listings and someone gets a bargain and I get about £30 towards my target.

Am feeling a bit less positive as although I got off to a flying start making over £100, having run out of recycled wrapping/packing stuff, I'd just bought 100 mailing bags, a large roll of bubble wrap and 6 rolls of parcel tape and now nothing is moving.

Well I've spent the last couple of days ironing and taking photos whilst dc3 has his nap. I have about 10 bundles in draft form on ebay, hopefully ready to go live in the next couple of days.

I've also decided that I'm going to buy gifts towards Christmas as the money comes in, or it will disappear on nothing of significance.

Oooh ! I've got that 100 free listings too. Will enable me to relist some of my unsold stuff again on a 30 day listing.

It's unusual that it's for 6 whole days but this must surely mean I will have time to get stuff listed.

I've just listed a big item at on a 10 day auction quite a high start price - no takers yet.

I'll be doing the same as you daisy , paying for Christmas without using any savings at all is my goal. Even funding most of it with just a little bit of savings money needed would be a result and de-cluttering the house in readiness for putting up a Christmas tree/decs will be the added bonus.

Right then, I've ironed like crazy over the last few days and have got ten bundles of stuff all listed tonight on ebay! If they were all to sell for the starting bid I will get £42 total, so we'll see. (I just can't bear to put certain stuff starting at £1, as would be upset if special stuff sold for that!) im one of these who gets attached to certain babygros etc - I really need to work on it though, as dd (age 6), has said no to some of her grown out of stuff going on there as she wants to keep her favourites. Wish she'd told me before the mammoth washing, vanish, ironing and artistic photography, often involving a bit more ironing to get it looking right!!!

My Amazon basket is also full with stocking stuff for the 3 dcs. So I'll pay for that out of the previous sales. Hope everybody is making progress.

Does anybody happen to know if people set up alerts to be notified when new stuff goes for sale on eBay in specified categories? I scheduled all the bundles to go on tonight, as knew I wouldn't manage in between the 3 bedtimes, but have had 50+ views already!!!

lappy I like your idea of funding Christmas entirely by this! Whatever I make out of this week's effort will go towards main gifts for the dcs.

Once I get in the swing of this I become a bit obsessed, I find myself wandering around wondering what I can photograph and sell next...

Daisy, I believe there is a way of getting notified if stuff you are specifically looking for (eg a specific pattern of crockery) is listed.

I'm being ruthless, if a toy/gadget hasn't been played with for over a year it's getting listed.

I made £3.50 after expenses from one listing of a batch of McDonalds happy meal toys belonging to the same set. Not a lot I know but they're just plastic toys and I was about to remove the battery from one before putting them all in the recycling bin when I started to wonder if there might be a collector who'd like them, and guess what there was ! Must go and clear out the rest of the stuff at the bottom of the toy box, there might be few more part sets I can list.

100 free listings makes it possible to list all sorts of stuff just in case someone somewhere will pay for it.

I'm having to raid our recycling bin for cardboard boxes lie cereal boxes to re-use as packaging materials.

I listed some stuff last week, fairly expensiveish items (handycam, branded handbags etc) to finish Sunday evening. Four selling out of five which totals just under £50.
I try to put stuff on the FB sell first, and then put it on eBay if it doesn't shift.
Total for sell it pages is £27. That's going in a jar towards treat spends at Disneyland.
The eBay stuff is going straight off credit card.

Ahh, that explains it then! I was amazed we'd had over 100 views by bedtime! Four bundles have lift off and quite a few watchers on the others, so fingers crossed.

I've amassed a number of next delivery bags so am using them for my clothes bundles, but would need to collect a few boxes if I start on the toys

Yes ratbag it does get addictive! But I do go the other way too and become too attached to things, so I find it hard to let go. Ridiculous of me I know. I just figure that if I keep steadily plodding along between now and Christmas, I will slowly declutter and at least make room for the new stuff coming in. And as I get to the point where I've sold all the 'easy' stuff, the addiction will allow me to get rid of emotional clutter too
