Anyone up for a "Pre- Christmas clear out" ebay challenge selling thread ?

Lappy214 · 10/09/2015 14:08

The old New Year thread seems a bit dead so thought I'd see if anyone is up for a clearing space/generating funds for Christmas shopping e-bay challenge.

I have made a (secret) pledge that this year in our house we will get rid of a greater volume of stuff in the run up to 25/12 than we end up acquiring as this years incoming Christmas presents.

Not quite sure what target to set myself yet........ £300 over 3 months seems entirely do-able but if I really want to create extra space around the house I probably need to be aiming for nearer £500. This would nicely cover the cost of dc's presents and Christmas food bill too so would be a double incentive. I've just donated a large bag of men's clothing to a charity refugee assistance local collection

Anyone else ?

We could all have a min - max target range and award ourselves a score by how far along that scale we manage to get.

How's everyone's sales going?

I have five items finishing around 1 today. Three of them have suddenly started racing up, so my bags jumped from £8 to nearly £30, dress from £5 to £12 and handycam is creeping towards £30 too. Fingers crossed after fees I should be paying an extra £70 off the credit card. :)

daisydalrymple · 20/09/2015 08:16

Oh well done! That gives me hope for my stuff. 4 out of my 10 bundles have the starting bid on now, but it looks really sad looking at the list and 6 of them are still red! They end on Thursday night, I put them on with 15 mins apart as did the scheduled list (wasn't expecting a set of bibs to sell for example, but thought if they sell 15 mins after the babygro bundle that buyer might go for them- the bibs already have a bid but not the babygrows!)

TheDrsDocMartens · 20/09/2015 08:47

I've got round to listing a couple of things this morning.
Well 2 but it's a start!

LeBoob · 20/09/2015 09:09

Yes! I started a few weekends ago with toys that aren't played with. So far just over £100, which I wasn't expecting! All being paid off a new pram + other bits! May start on the clothes bundles later today!

daisydalrymple · 20/09/2015 11:35

Wow leboob what toys did you sell? I haven't started those yet, am still on the clothes pile, but we have ELC local branch in the loft Grin dc3 is 1 next month, but I want to reduce down what he gets, as there was too much for two children to play with, never mind one!

I saw a few happyland bundles make a fortune for the same seller a few weeks ago, but plenty of it doesn't sell at all, or goes for the minimum starting bid.

Lappy214 · 20/09/2015 12:06

You've sold bibs over babygrows ? I'm amazed..... I gave all our bibs away assuming that no-one would pay for second hand bibs.

This weekend has been good for me with auction bids and BIN sales, when all the auctions finally finish and assuming everybody pays up, I'll have made almost £200. This is almost all of my big items gone however and I'm left with lots of small stuff that will only make a couple of quid here and there. It'll be a long slog now to get up to the £300 minimum target I've set myself but I'll keep listing anyway.

Daisy - I have started setting a slightly higher minimum starting bid and then reduce it a bit if it isn't selling. I was quite ruthless with a couple of playmobil sets and got some good prices in the end. I also use the 30 day fixed price/best offer listing option more often than I use an auction listing. Ridiculously low offers get rejected immediately and I often make counter offers to see if I can squeeze a little more out of buyers.

I don't expect everything to sell in the next 3 months but I did find last year that as a result of leaving the remaining items up for sale and using the 20 free listings each month to relist them over and over, they pretty much all sold eventually and it was a nice surprise to get little bits of money coming in occasionally in the early months of 2015.

daisy the disney little people sold well which I expected, but lots of toys that I would have otherwise sent to the charity shop, vetch robot, diaper surprise doll, tag reader. I also sold outgrown clarks shoes and converse only for just over minimum bid but they're out of the house! I need to declutter before the new baby arrives but I struggle to motivate myself when it gets to the dregs!

daisydalrymple · 20/09/2015 18:55

Yes, the bibs are the more expensive milk dribble catcher ones, but I really only put them on thinking someone would bid last minute if they got the babygros! Four days to go yet though and a few watchers on most bundles now, so fingers crossed.

Thanks for the tips! Most useful. I must admit I've put most bundles on starting £4 or so, as Id be gutted to sell anything for £1, not worth the walk to the post office Grin [lazy].

When is the baby due? Dc3 is one next month, I'd so hoped to declutter before he arrived, but was helping my sis looking after dad (advanced dementia). Sadly/sensibly moved him to a home a few months ago, so I'm now trying to slowly start the declutter process! Not easy, but one thing in my favour is ive got much better at reducing what comes in, so I'm not at least adding to what's here!

LeBoob · 20/09/2015 20:11

Ds1 is due dec 14th so need to shift stuff to make way for him/baby clutter/gifts/Xmas presents! We have recently moved too & have a garage now, so it's a slow process but I can just sort as and when now we're not living in it iyswim?

I've listed 20 items tonight (thanks to this thread) hopefully most of it will go! I remember reading something about working out how much it cost you to store clutter, so even if you made 99p it was better than the amount it would 'cost' to store it, or something. Not sure if it's right but I like to work with it!

LeBoob · 20/09/2015 20:13

Oh I never set my target, if I can make £134.65 it will clear the final payment on my pram! Only 135 items at £1 each I guess Hmm

TheDrsDocMartens · 21/09/2015 13:40

I've sold two things on BIN!
Just under£20 altogether. Most went on as auction so will be next week before its finished.
Have my pram on a FB group first to see what happens as I don't want to pay fees if possible!

PurpleFrog · 22/09/2015 12:32

I'll join in. My target by Christmas is £332.77 !

That is the amount, after fees, that I need to make to bring this year's selling profits up to a nice round £1000. Grin

I've not done much eBaying over the past couple of months, but I got 4 new things on over the past couple of evenings. I just need to find the time to sort out "new" stuff.

daisydalrymple · 22/09/2015 18:17

Wow purple frog, that's good selling!

Docmartens, I'm wondering about the Facebook group, as we've got 3 baby chairs in the house Hmm one is up to toddler (3 yrs I think), but the other two can go now, am thinking they would be more likely to shift locally. Very good condition, so not sure what to ask for them.

Leboob, I've been going round the house picking up toys here and there and have got a nappy box full to make a baby toy bundle now. (5 toy phones or 4 shape sorters anyone??)

daisydalrymple · 22/09/2015 18:19

Ps my bundles end Thursday on ebay, am up to £36.50 so far, but still no takers on 4 lots. Loads of watchers though.

Lappy214 · 24/09/2015 20:28

It's Thursday daisy how did it go ?

I've had a bit of luck with some competition bidding on my auction style listings for little items/small bundles and am suddenly up to over £230.

Have rejected some low price offers on a couple of my fixed price/best offer listings. I'd rather wait and see if I can do better.

daisydalrymple · 24/09/2015 20:34

I'm Watching my bundles on my phone as they end, lying feeding dc3 on the bed Grin £71 so far with the last minute bidders!!! 2 left to go, plus 3 lots of trainers for ds1, which ive promised he can have the money for (he's 8). At this rate he might have enough for a new pair of Astros bless him, he's so excited with all the pinging.

daisydalrymple · 24/09/2015 20:35

Wow, £230, that's good going!

Lappy214 · 25/09/2015 11:48

The £230 goes right back to the start of the month and includes some big playmobil/Thomas the Tank Engine toy items, large sets etc and new with tags clothes stuff.

I'm now down to used clothes and shoes and books which are always slow sellers.

I must go up in the loft again however as I'm sure there's lots more playmobil stuff up there. I do think I can make my minimum target and more, just depends how ruthless I am with my clearout.

daisydalrymple · 25/09/2015 15:18

£80 grand total for me, and £35 for ds1 and his trainers, so very happy boy Smile

daisydalrymple · 25/09/2015 15:18

Just have to work out the next bundles to go on there now!

TheDrsDocMartens · 26/09/2015 08:29

Up to £19 so far. Not got much high value stuff though

LMGTFY · 26/09/2015 08:50

Hello, can I join in? Haven't put anything on ebay yet but made £300.50 so far on fb. We had actually set ourselves a rather ambitious target of £1000 but after getting off to a good start haven't done anything for a couple of weeks.

Lappy214 · 26/09/2015 17:32

Wow LMGTFY - you must have a lot of stuff to get rid of.

I've crept up to almost £240 with small stuff selling so far. Have about 70 items listed (some of them a bit random and low value so chance of selling v small) over 3 ebay ID's but am out of free listings until Thursday now.

I'm hoping it will just creep up gradually until I find more good stuff from the loft to boost it (higher value items).

LeBoob · 27/09/2015 13:23

Just a heads up, I received a 25% off final value fees email this morning. Good for 30 listings! Worth checking your inbox just incase you've had one too. 18 items due to end today, 9 with bids, a few with watchers and some with nada! Hopefully will sell another £20/£30 worth.

LMGTFY · 27/09/2015 17:04

Sorry I should have said it is mainly expensive tools of my DH's! He has the newest of stuff paid for by his current job so no need to keep the old stuff bought over the years!
