Anyone up for a "Pre- Christmas clear out" ebay challenge selling thread ?

Lappy214 · 10/09/2015 14:08

The old New Year thread seems a bit dead so thought I'd see if anyone is up for a clearing space/generating funds for Christmas shopping e-bay challenge.

I have made a (secret) pledge that this year in our house we will get rid of a greater volume of stuff in the run up to 25/12 than we end up acquiring as this years incoming Christmas presents.

Not quite sure what target to set myself yet........ £300 over 3 months seems entirely do-able but if I really want to create extra space around the house I probably need to be aiming for nearer £500. This would nicely cover the cost of dc's presents and Christmas food bill too so would be a double incentive. I've just donated a large bag of men's clothing to a charity refugee assistance local collection

Anyone else ?

We could all have a min - max target range and award ourselves a score by how far along that scale we manage to get.

My listings are doing ok - £360 so far
I've now decided to try and get to £500 which would cover total cost of Xmas
Used up all my free listings so need to wait for my next 20 free listings
Hoping there's enough time - most of the higher priced stuff has gone though

glammanana · 01/11/2015 17:21

I've now done just under £200 for October so very pleased with that, its only because hubby has got rid of all his golf clothes they went straight away Confused who goes out and plays golf this time of year ?? you can't see the bleedin ball in the dark can you ? but I don't care it has done my account the world of good.
Only free listings I got was for items under £5.00 and I don't have any of those at present as I do free P&P so it defeats the object a bit wouldn't you say.? Hoping every one meets their xmas target xx glamma xx

Lappy214 · 03/11/2015 20:51

Well done glammananna - how kind of your dh to get rid of his golf clothes to your fundraising !

I got the free listings for auctions starting at less than £5 too but that means things are only listed for 10 days max and then need relisting. I'm guessing ebay are trying to balance out the fixed price items for sale with more auctions.

I've now zoomed up to £370, lots of small sales but it all adds up.

Have one big item that needs assembling carefully with lots of fiddly pieces before I can take photos and list. Perhaps if I do a little each night I might be ready to list it at the weekend. I'm banking on it raising £40 or so and helping me get over the £400 level and then I'll be happy

Impressed with your £360 JaceLancs. You've way exceeded your target in double quick time. It must be good stuff whatever you're listing.

Crept up to £394 now and just relisted 14 items free
Mostly clothes, but some jewellery and handbags pushed it up quite a bit
I could still manage £500 by Xmas which would be fantastic

JaceLancs · 06/11/2015 22:39

Not everything has been paid for yet though so am not counting my proverbial chickens!

Lappy214 · 07/11/2015 08:41

Yes, non payers can be such a disappointment.

I'm just pennies way from £400 now so setting myself my previous ultimate target of £500 as something do-able by Christmas should motivate me to keep up the clutter clearance.

Let's both go for the £500 target - much reduced guilt trip in January then about the cost of Christmas !

How's everyone else doing ?

OP posts:
glammanana · 07/11/2015 20:54

Not doing too bad this week had 4 sales totalling £64.90 so no grumbles from me,just had a complaint about one item though because of those damm postage bags he said golf top smelt of smoke and we are a none smoking home totally so have emailed him and explained and to read the ebay members forum about the problem, just hoping he revises his feedback which was good but mentioned the problem, you need to be one step ahead all the time don't you !! xxx good luck girlies on your £500 target.

SuperFlyHigh · 10/11/2015 15:16

I want to sell some bits, so far have got Philosophy Christmas boxes from about 2 years ago but contents fine, new H&M glitter socks, a Louche jumper NWT, Dotty P top NWT and a branded purse.

I've also got necklaces and barely worn earrings - one is a new Oasis pair on card others aren't, can you sell used earrings but say cleaned?

JaceLancs · 10/11/2015 16:00

I have never had any problems selling earrings
Now up to £414 here yay!

JaceLancs · 10/11/2015 20:36

20 items relisted - can't find anything else - might raid DP wardrobe - he said he has too many shirts!

Lappy214 · 11/11/2015 00:02

Now up to £407 so I'm trailing slightly but have some stuff to list including a large toy item which should make about £30-40 £instead of my usual £2.99 items.

Can I ask questions on behalf of a friend? She has some expensive shoes and a party dress which she wants to get a good price for. eBay isn't really the place for this is it?

Evening stuff I have - should I list it and see or not? Got some nice pieces that i won't wear again.

Lappy214 · 12/11/2015 22:23

Superflyhigh

If you/your friend listed items with a start price of the minimum that you would accept for each item and took advantage of the 20 free listings per month then there's every chance of making some money as party season is coming up so no better time to list stuff like that really.

Take lots of photos, add measurements to the listing to minimise the chance of people wanting to return items as "small or large for the sizing".

Alternatively you could see if their is a dress agency (selling quality used ladies clothing near you although they do tend to want a good chunk of the sale proceeds.

Lappy214 · 12/11/2015 22:24

Oops, there , not their !

Lappy214 · 13/11/2015 14:13

JaceLancs I'm now at £429 still with a big item to list so £500 is looking do'able all of a sudden.

How are you doing ?

OP posts:
JaceLancs · 13/11/2015 23:25

£445 here :-)
18 items mostly relistings, but a couple of new things
Trouble is I keep spending it! Mostly on Xmas shopping, but some on treating myself

Lappy214 · 15/11/2015 11:05

Very nearly at £465 now Jace

Time spent putting grouping some toys back into original sets as far as possible and listing in detail has paid off although no bids on my large item yet.

Am officially extending my target to £550 as there's still a month to go to my deadline.

OP posts:
JaceLancs · 16/11/2015 09:07

£558!
I might extend target to £600 as a few things still listed of which I'm hoping at least 2 will sell for a tenner each
Well done Lappy

Lappy214 · 16/11/2015 12:11

Fantastic stuff Jace I've jumped up to £515 as my large item now has lift off with a couple of bids (ends on Friday). I count sales as soon as I have bids.

I'm now eyeing up an underused bit of furniture with a view to keeping up with you ! De-cluttering continues chez Lappy.

Well done girls that magic figure now in everyones sight and doable,I am slowly winding my sales down as Christmas post starts to take effect I do that every year as so much goes missing and I can't be doing with the hassle,I've got what I wanted for my target and can confess to buying a couple of gifts from the proceeds so am very pleased this year.

Lappy214 · 17/11/2015 13:09

Excellent news glamma

Trying to keep up with Jace is doing me the world of good.

I hunted through the bottom of the wardrobe last night and found a pair of shoes I've never worn more than twice at the most (they looked frumpy, I should never have bought them !), still in their original box. Listed quickly for £15 using a picture I found online as my free listings ended at midnight, woke up to find them sold and paid for !

Big item has got to £60 now and so my total stands at £546. A little short of Jace's but I'm resetting the target at £600 as I have a few watchers on items so there's still hope.

I've donated some of my net proceeds sitting in paypal to Children in Need so that leaves me a little less for Christmas but that's as it should be after watching the various documentaries on Friday night.

PurpleFrog · 17/11/2015 14:05

I'm not quite sure where the past month has gone to? Everybody else seems to be doing really well.

I sold one item on Sunday, which I took to the PO today. That leaves me with only 4 listings, but I still have a couple of things to list that I photographed at the weekend. Hopefully I'll get them on tonight. I really need to have a hunt this weekend and see if there is anything I can list that is likely to be bought as a Christmas present. I have some doll's bunkbeds but I need to varnish the ladder and make some bedding before I can advertise them - I think they will have to wait until I have some more time.

Lappy214 · 18/11/2015 09:37

oooHHH ! I'm up to £566 now !

OP posts:
JaceLancs · 18/11/2015 21:52

£581 tonight! Nearly there :-)
Well done everyone
I normally spend around £500 total on family Xmas presents so might treat myself to something with the rest

Lappy214 · 20/11/2015 12:18

OMG - £628 this morning :-))))) , my big ticket item has gone barmy, now up to almost £150, almost 500 views and over 40 watchers.

I'm officially re-setting the target at £675. That gives me another £50 to achieve before Christmas.
