Anyone up for a "Pre- Christmas clear out" ebay challenge selling thread ?

Lappy214 · 10/09/2015 14:08

The old New Year thread seems a bit dead so thought I'd see if anyone is up for a clearing space/generating funds for Christmas shopping e-bay challenge.

I have made a (secret) pledge that this year in our house we will get rid of a greater volume of stuff in the run up to 25/12 than we end up acquiring as this years incoming Christmas presents.

Not quite sure what target to set myself yet........ £300 over 3 months seems entirely do-able but if I really want to create extra space around the house I probably need to be aiming for nearer £500. This would nicely cover the cost of dc's presents and Christmas food bill too so would be a double incentive. I've just donated a large bag of men's clothing to a charity refugee assistance local collection

Anyone else ?

We could all have a min - max target range and award ourselves a score by how far along that scale we manage to get.

Check your inboxes ladies for invitation for 100 free listing up until the 5th October I noticed it this morning thats nice and handy as I can relist some stuff that hadn't sold last month.

LMGTFY · 30/09/2015 09:46

That would be handy but I don't have that offer, this is me ebaying for the first time in years so don't quite know the drill with listings and fees etc.

glammanana · 01/10/2015 08:18

LMGTFY once you get your sales up to above standard level you will be invited for free listings, the best way to do it is to sell lots of cheaper stuff quickly and build up your feedback score then off you go. good luck selling.

Lappy214 · 01/10/2015 12:45

I've had 100 free listings offered on 2 of my ebay ID's but not the 3rd one which hardly sells anything and was wondering how it worked glammananna so that explains it. It really helps to get these offers when you've loads of stuff which didn't sell first time round and needs to be relisted.

Have had an unpleasant negative feedback left by someone who, when I check into things, has left a string of such feedbacks in respect of second hand clothes which fell short of her standards. Usually says there is pet hair on items or stitching coming loose. Hoping having reported her to ebay the feedback will be removed.

I'm up to £260 now, dropping off almost daily at the dropshop or post office. I even sold a Ben 10 item which I'm pleased bout as I thought Ben 10 had ceased to be popular. Hope to make it to £300 by the end of October.

Keep going everyone - just think of the de-cluttering and the contribution to Xmas funds even if you're listing loads and only make a £ or 2 on each.

Thanks for the motivation on this! I've had to turf out my airing cupboard today for a boiler service, which is where I keep my ebay pile. It's massive! So I've just listed and scheduled the first few bits and pieces, now its time for bag two- if I'm not back in an hour, send a search party...

glammanana · 03/10/2015 10:40

lappy So glad to hear you have sussed the invite thingy for free listings,I have also had a funny week with a seller rather than a buyer I bid on two tops and won then from the same seller and after bidding and paying straight away I realised I could have asked for combined postage but hey-ho I didn't,when the items arrived both in the same bag for £2.80 postage I was a bit miffed as she has been paid £5.60 so I mentioned it on feedback which the reply came back "well you never asked for combined postage" in my world if I didn't ask for combined postage I expected two parcels to arrive not one,so this woman must be mad not to think I wouldn't complain, everyone works so hard to keep their feedback score up there and you get a few who are just awful like your buyer.

LeBoob · 04/10/2015 08:25

glammanana Ivedurrentlygot something similar going on! I've bought 3 items from the seller, politely asked to combine postage & received a 'I didn't agree to that' email back. Now why anyone would want to package and pay for postage for the 3 items separately, when I can be done as one is beyond me! I've said I'll just contact ebay to cancel the transactions instead! Terrible service!

LeBoob · 04/10/2015 08:25

Ive currently got **

Lappy214 · 08/10/2015 13:38

I've now made £270 but myhermes have totally lost a parcel which I'll have to refund and claim for. It seems like a looooong way to go to £300.

I must get listing some different stuff as what I have left on 30 day listings isn't selling except the odd item every few days or so.

I need a bag of stuff to donate to a charity collection at our school so I'll pull quite a few of the listings where it's probably the postage charge putting people off and get them out of the house that way. Freeing up space will be reward enough.

I must take some photographs of stuff in daylight this weekend as they always seem to sell better than stuff pictured under artificial light source.

Having a high paypal balance from the proceeds is very tempting when it comes to shopping online and I keep having to pause and ask myself "Is this a Christmas purchase or not ?" pause before using paypal funds.

Hey ladies check your emails for an invite for 40 free listing from 10th -15th I just caught it as I thought it was a halloween advert and nearly deleted it.
I'm doing OK on my selling at the minute, some quality stuff from DIL that she gave me and I kept the price low enough to grab some interest but not giving it away if you know what I mean.
I'm moving the paypay proceeds into my bank now so not being tempted to spend as this wedding is getting nearer and nearer.
Good luck selling girls !! enjoy

LeBoob · 11/10/2015 09:15

Oh I got the 40 free listings email too! Will have to try and sort through the junk stuff that's left & get it listed! I agree with lappy it seems like a long way to go now!

Lappy214 · 17/10/2015 22:20

I've been listing all sorts of random odds and ends and have now made £290. Have a few items with watchers but being on 30 day listings they may well come to nothing anytime soon.

Hoping the Christmas shoppers will start soon on e-bay as some of what I've listed is good enough quality to be used as gifts.

I really really want to get to £400 by the week before Christmas.

glammanana · 18/10/2015 11:15

Lappy Have you checked your ebay messages I found another invite for 9 days and 100 free listing when I looked this morning,so well chuffed with that as I wasn't expecting another invite after last weeks extra 40 Grin
DD has passed me some good stuff from DGD who has not worn half the stuff so it will go I'm sure for Christmas,as you know I am doing my saving for Las Vegas wedding next year but may be tempted to dip in for Xmas in fact I treated myself to a brand new Seksy watch last night for the grand total of £9.20 so well pleased.I'm sure we will all meet our wanted targets lets just keep our fingers crossed we don't come across any "funny" buyers on the way, xx Glamma

Mrscog · 18/10/2015 11:22

Hi - is it too late for me to join in? I need to get rid of stuff too, although none of it is particularly high value stuff, so I think £50 would be my target.

Lappy214 · 18/10/2015 20:38

Glamma I received a 100 free listings with 50% off final value fee for 9 days on auction only listings.

Need some wet/cold weather now to get people shopping for wellies/snowboots and coats which I've now listed.

Welcome MrsCog Good Luck with achieving your target. I keep reminding myself that it's not just the small amount of net income I'm gaining, it's space freed up/clutter reduced chez Lappy.

OP posts:
glammanana · 18/10/2015 20:50

Mrscog do join in and get some £s in your pot for xmas you never know you may surprise yourself and achieve much more than you thinkxx good luck & keep us updated.

Mrscog · 19/10/2015 14:41

Thanks everyone - I've listed 1 thing so far! I'm also decluttering (doing the 2015 in 2015 challenge) and have sent a lot to charity this year.

Lappy214 · 20/10/2015 12:07

Hooray, I've just sent off the last parcel of the dregs of the used kids clothes that I got a large box of down from the loft to e-bay. I wasn't sure I could donate them to charity as they're quite fussy about quality round here but I was brutally honest in the listing detail and because the price was so cheap for largish bundles they still got bids.

I've let some go in large bundles at only about £1.50 net income after all p&p/charges but 6 bundles like that made me another £10.

I have now made £300.13 (I have a spreadsheet keeping a tally - how sad am I) although I'd be the first to admit it's been time consuming over the last 7 weeks.

I'm thinking of listing some surplus to requirement Xmas decorations, does anyone thinks they might sell ?

OP posts:
PurpleFrog · 20/10/2015 14:38

Well done Lappy214! I am another sad spreadsheet user!

Real life has got in the way of my eBaying over the past few weeks. I only have 6 things listed at the moment plus a "lost in the post" item I am still trying to sort out. I hope to get some more listings on this week to take advantage of the current offer.

glammanana · 23/10/2015 08:24

Purplefrog I'm finding its not the listings that takes up the time its the description and measuring tvhe items that take up all your time, ythe offersou have to be so so precise or someone will come back with a not as described claim,I'm not doing too bad with shoes at present sold some twinkle toes sketchers DGD grew out of for a good price and her converse pumps all in good condition as they grow out before they wear out so quite happy this week,I'm finding I'm not using anywhere near my free listings quota though its a shame really as I hate to waste the offer.

PurpleFrog · 23/10/2015 09:51

glammanana EVERYTHING takes up time for me. I also have some clothes on with actual measurements and last night I got round to putting up some extra photos I took of them last weekend. They are 10 day items which now only have a few days to go. Sigh! I haven't managed to get any new items on this week, and now that it is getting dark much earlier I will only be able to take decent photos at the weekends from now on.

Our bathroom is currently being re-done which means that upstairs is in chaos. As well as emptying the bathroom I also had to empty a large built-in wardrobe in our room, as pipes run through the bottom of it. However, this did yield a few more items for eBay and a lot more for the charity shop bag. Hopefully I'll finish washing the stuff this weekend and decide what is actually worth selling.

My "lost in the post" item didn't turn up so i have refunded. It was sent 2nd class signed for so should be easy to claim for - just annoying!

JaceLancs · 25/10/2015 18:40

I'm only just joining in - but have just listed 38 items - took me ages as on iPad and eBay have changed the way you list since I last sold stuff, seems to take ages to load things
My target is £250 by Xmas
Anybody any experience of this selling internationally via posting to eBay who send it on - who pays postage etc am confused

Lappy214 · 26/10/2015 00:41

I've sold 2 items that went via the ebay international shipping system.

One massive boxed toy set to a Spanish buyer (only a fortnight ago) and I can't recall where the other one went as it was some time ago.

I just had to post/courier it to the shipping place in the UK at UK postage/courier charge prices as detailed in my listing. The buyer seems to pay for the onward part of the parcel's journey directly to the international shipping department so it makes selling internationally no more onerous than selling to UK buyers as you have no responsibility beyond it arriving at the UK address of the e-bay shipping place.

I'm not sure how returns would work though.

Lappy214 · 26/10/2015 16:24

Half-term is here and views/watchers/bidders have increased quite a bit over the weekend, so my total has now crept up to £320.

Don't think I'll make my dream target of £500 by Xmas as I've now got a very busy fortnight ahead at work and can't spare the downtime to list and photograph any more stuff but will aim to make it to over £400 if I can.

There's now lots more space free in the loft (although will soon be backfilled to free up clothes storage space in the bedrooms and one of our downstairs rooms is looking distinctly less cluttered.

OP posts:
Lappy214 · 29/10/2015 15:25

Now up to £335 but in dire need of a free listing bonanza now as all my unsold auctions need relisting in the next 4 days or so if I'm to keep the income dribbling from time to time and the November 20 free listings won't cover them all.
