Anyone up for a "Pre- Christmas clear out" ebay challenge selling thread ?

Lappy214 · 10/09/2015 14:08

The old New Year thread seems a bit dead so thought I'd see if anyone is up for a clearing space/generating funds for Christmas shopping e-bay challenge.

I have made a (secret) pledge that this year in our house we will get rid of a greater volume of stuff in the run up to 25/12 than we end up acquiring as this years incoming Christmas presents.

Not quite sure what target to set myself yet........ £300 over 3 months seems entirely do-able but if I really want to create extra space around the house I probably need to be aiming for nearer £500. This would nicely cover the cost of dc's presents and Christmas food bill too so would be a double incentive. I've just donated a large bag of men's clothing to a charity refugee assistance local collection

Anyone else ?

We could all have a min - max target range and award ourselves a score by how far along that scale we manage to get.

£648 as of yesterday!
Only relisted 2 items - as little interest on the rest (mainly clothes) and will wait for free listing

Lappy214 · 21/11/2015 23:17

Jace - I'm currently p to £657 but you may notice I have a thread running about my big item being won by a bidder from Mexico with zero feedback who only joined e-bay 3 days ago. I should have said no overseas bidders but after successfully sending a similar item to a winning bidder from Spain under e-bays Global Shipping service I wasn't worried enough to do that.

Might end up doing a deal with the 2nd highest bidder and taking a negative from the winner.

Still have some watchers which may drive up final selling prices/ result in a few more sales.

Did anyone else get the 100 free listings with 50% of final value fees offer ? Runs until end of Monday so check your e-mails/messages.

Providing I don't get stung with the overseas sale, I am now up to £680.

Have very little else of value to list, except a bookcase which has become a dumping ground for anything other than books so I need to re-home the stuff on it before I can list it.

Just waiting for some more free listings so I can relist some stuff that didn't sell first time round and I have some 30 day stuff with watchers which might generate a little bit more towards my ultimate £700 total.

It's been time consuming and tiring but worthwhile in terms of freeing up space, identifying what can be donated to charity, and making some cash to pay for Christmas so that January doesn't start with a financial hangover.

I'll definitely be doing this again next Autumn.

£768 now!
Very happy - only 1 item still listed which if sells will take me over £800
Here's hoping
How are you all doing?

glammanana · 01/12/2015 08:38

Check you messages ladies I received one this morning for 100 free listings and 75% off final value fees up until 8th December its a reward for being a good seller I never received this before so will use it to list anything hanging about and try and get rid of unwanted stuff,I have gone over my target of £750 now for the Las Vegas fund so am quite pleased with myself have also treated myself to some good boots but have mainly kept my balance in paypal and not been tempted to spend too much.Well done everyone. xxx glamma xxx

PurpleFrog · 01/12/2015 09:18

glammanana I have received that message too! My profit for the year has just crept over the £750 mark as well. I hope to get a few more bits on in the next week before I stop for Christmas.

Dumbledoresgirl · 01/12/2015 09:22

Well, I am a little fish compared with you lot. I have no idea how much money I have made this year, but since the beginning of October, I have made nearly £200 - over £50 of that yesterday!

I don't have a target in mind, just keep on selling little bits for a pound or two here and there, clearing unwanted items from the house.

I too got the 100 free listings plus 75% of final fees today so I'm going to make a bit more of an effort to get things listed.

PurpleFrog · 01/12/2015 09:27

Dumbledoresgirl Making £100 a month is pretty good going! I wish I could average that.

Dumbledoresgirl · 01/12/2015 09:57

Yes me too! These takings are very much the Christmas market and mostly from the last few days. Toys go like hot cakes at this time of year but unfortunately my youngest is nearly 13 so the few that I have left to sell will be my last. Then it will be back to selling books (I sell about one a month!) and secondhand clothes - mainly my daughter's as she is the fashion conscious must-change-her-wardrobe-every-year sort!

I am trying to sell things I make, but, although I did quite well last Christmas, this year I have hardly had anyone even look at the stuff!

PurpleFrog · 01/12/2015 10:05

Yes Dumbledoresgirl- my dd is 17 so although there are still a few toys and kids books hanging around I have got rid of the bulk of them. Saying that, I bet she decides to have a clearout in the Christmas holidays and dumps a huge pile of long-forgotten stuff on my bed!

Lappy214 · 01/12/2015 14:18

Well done everyone ! You had a slow start glamma and £750 is fab. I'm currently at £685.

That 75% off final value fees is fantastic news, as it makes a real difference to the net amount that you get and makes it worthwhile listing a lots of low value items (as I can list them at a lower starting price, knowing that even if it only sells for that I will get a reasonable amount per item).

I'll be listing loads of children's books using that offer. I have lots of mailing bags to use up.

I may even exceed my £700 target which is amazing, £200 more than the top end of my original target range. Christmas has been totally funded by e-bay sales at our house !

We've had Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but I think today must be eBay Thursday! No idea what is going on, but this morning I only had 6 items listed - one finishing tonight, the rest on Sunday. Now I only have 3 listings! Grin Two of my BINs were bought outright and I accepted an offer for another - all different buyers, all different sorts of items. Of course, the only one that had been listed with a FVF offer was the cheapest one that sold for £4.99... but every little helps.

On the flip side I got a neutral feedback yesterday, just when I had "got rid" of two from my ratings that I received about this time last year. Grrr.

Dumbledoresgirl · 03/12/2015 16:12

In contrast, I had a fantastic weekend and Monday, but then yesterday, took a large parcel to the PO expecting to pay £4.80 something (had charged the buyer £5) only to be told it exceeded a weight limit and is actually cost nearly £13 to send! How ridiculous is that, that the price goes up £8 when you from one weight limit to the next?

I toyed with taking the parcel home and looking into Hermes but it was such a big parcel and I had queued 30 minutes, and I just wanted rid of it.

Ebay have also pulled a toy I was trying to sell which apparently has had H&S issues. Shame, as I had quite a few watchers for it too.

glammanana · 06/12/2015 07:23

Lappy That slow start was made up by mr.glammas golf stuff which he still hasn't noticed is missing (so much for his interest in the sport) I am pulling all my sales from this next week-end until after xmas just because of the post situation really.
We have all worked really well this past year haven't we,I have half of my extra spends for Las Vegas and should make the £1.500 by next June if all goes well it will be my secret stash for extra treats whilst we are there. After xmas the job of searching ebay for mother of the groom outfit will start just got to sort out what colour I want Confused

Lappy214 · 18/12/2015 12:54

Today is my target deadline for sales and the grand total is £745.

Still some watchers so maybe more by Christmas Day but I've stopped listing now. Time for a rest !

Have a good (e-bay funded) Christmas everyone !
