We are up to 1000 posts on the other thread, so thought I'd start a new one. And also because as of today my feedback rating is 1000 & I now have a red star

Please keep posting, I love this thread; it's so friendly and interesting!

Dumbledoresgirl · 08/11/2011 14:33

Sad to see that others are having the same difficulty as me selling books. In the last couple of weeks, I have sold 2 bundles of books (the Malory Towers ones, and some Jeremy Strong ones) and one picture book, but I have well over a hundred books I want to sell but can't. It's a shame, because books are the one thing my children have loads of, and they generally read them in a very tidy way so the damage to covers etc is limited. I just refuse to charity shop them!

notcitrus · 08/11/2011 17:33

toobreathless - not on Ebay yet! Might as well start typing here:
Mystery Burnt Cottage, 13th reprint of 1st ed, 1959, no dj, scuffing means 'the mystery of the' is scraped off spine, address on flyleaf crossed out in felt tip, covers bashed at top and bottom, but pages are sound and there's the J.Abbey illustrations including pics of the Five and Buster.

Enid Blyton's Storytime Book, 1964, presumably 1st ed, no dj, impressions of writing and small nick on flyleaves.
Naughtiest Girl in the School and Is a Monitor - hb 1973 Dean+Son reprints with glossy picture covers, with a price or a name written in neat pencil on flyleaf. Very good condition.
Circus Days Again, Hurrah for the Circus - hb 1973 Dean+Son reprints with glossy picture covers, small scuff to top of Hurrah but zero marks inside so excellent/v good condition.
Happy Hours Story Book - Dean+Son (c) 1964 so 1st ed? Excellent condition.

The Boy Next Door - presume 1st ed, 'This impression 1962', no dj, yellow covers are dirty but little scuffing to spine. Pages sound, slight foxing on flyleaf. Illustrated by Gilbert Dunlop.

Adventures on Willow Farm - Collins, 2nd ed, 1969 impression, hb with matt pics on front and spine, initials in pen on flyleaf, some scuffing on top and bottom of spine but pages in excellent condition.

Paperbacks - Ruby and Emerald storybooks - listed a few times, didn't sell.

I've got quite a few others in worse condition/pbs that I'd be happy to get rid of but I know the charity shops can only sell kids books that are in good nick nowadays (as in tatty and ancient ones just don't sell and they don't have the space). I've got rid of most of the series already, which did sell in sets on Ebay.

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 08/11/2011 21:13

I'm finally back and here are my last 46 listings LOOK.

Nothing left to list now so am happy and sad at the same time!

toobreathless · 08/11/2011 22:02

Notcitrus: interested in a few of your books. Let me know when you list!

Can anybody tell me how to put a link up to my items?

Carrotsandcelery · 08/11/2011 22:21

Hi Dino where have you been? Good to have you back Smile

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 08/11/2011 22:38

Hi Carrots, where haven't I been?! 2 sick children, 2 birthdays, 4 parties, parents to see and sick relatives, I could go on but it's boring :) Plus until this weekend I (thankfully) had nothing new to list and after this little lot tonight I'm all done bar automatic relisting.

So I'm kinda relieved and kinda gutted that I won't reach my second target, will fall short by about £50. But I can feel my mother and MIL emptying cupboards and attic/lofts as I type Grin

I saw further up the thread that you are slowly selling stuff that you've re-listed many times - same here. I sold loads on Sunday and Monday evening that have been re-listed at least 12 times each - Christmas is mad! Plus the fact that they go for more than the starting price of 99p with more than 1 bid makes me smile.

What's this I hear about you selling things for a charity now?

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 08/11/2011 22:47

toobreathless This is what I do:

click on my username from my home page > on the left hand side of the next page under my image there is a link to Items For Sale - click on that > on the next page you can sort your items on the right hand side if you want to but otherwise you copy and paste the URL for that page and then post it in brackets like this www.ebay.co.uk/sch/ellisfund/m.html?_trkparms=65%253A12%257C66%253A1%257C39%253A6%257C72%253A5698&rt=nc&_ipg=&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_sop=1&_sc=1

Carrotsandcelery · 08/11/2011 22:49

I haven't got started yet Dino. I have opened a bank account for it, made an email address for it, opened an ebay account for it, washed many, many clothes etc but I can't link my bank account to ebay/paypal until I get my new card through the post. It is frustrating as there is so much stuff it has taken over my living room. It is going to take me ages but there is no time pressure other than regaining the space.

There are a lot of snowsuits and padded jackets that I would be keen to get listed fairly quickly so I am watching the post for my new card.

The account will have zero feedback scores so I am interested to see how it goes. I imagine most people dabble in a bit of buying before they sell but that won't be an option, except for postage bags.

At the moment I am a bit worried about what I have taken on but I am sure it will be fine once I get going. I think I will break the stuff into seasons and put most of it in the loft. There are only so many hours in the day at this time of year.

toobreathless · 08/11/2011 23:15

Dino: thanks!

Here goes: www.ebay.co.uk/sch/3976taylor/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 08/11/2011 23:17

toobreathless - worked for me - I can see 7 games :)

Carrotsandcelery · 08/11/2011 23:18

I can see games too and I am now watching one of them Grin

toobreathless · 08/11/2011 23:20

Well it's not as neat as everyone else's but at least the link works (thanks again Dino)

As you can see rather boring! I'm hopeful that they might do quite well. The transformers & Lego games already have 3 watchers each.

Tortoise · 08/11/2011 23:22

Dino. What's the spinaroo like? DD1 has been asking for one for a while but reviews put me off paying full price! Just wondering if she will get any enjoyment out of it or if its a bit crap like reviews say Grin

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 08/11/2011 23:31

Tortoise - I wouldn't say it's crap if you've got someone arty who likes making pretty pattern pictures. My youngest son was given it as a birthday present but was not into it at all - I made some lovely patterns though! Downsides for me are that it needs batteries and you need to shape paper - but it does work and you can make some groovy old fashioned spirograph type patterns pretty easily. Does that help?!

MamaPizza · 09/11/2011 07:05

Oooh, dino, you have the dotty dinosaur game!

MamaPizza · 09/11/2011 07:06

And pop to the shops! Both in my watchlist now. You do combine postage, right?

Dumbledoresgirl · 09/11/2011 09:39

Dino, do you mind me asking... I see you have lots of (lovely) breakables for sale. How do you package and send those so they do not break? I am asking because I have always shied away from listing anything fragile, ie glass, china.

notcitrus · 09/11/2011 11:06

toobreathless - can you PM me? Make an offer and I can tell you what postage would be. Also if there's any other titles you're interested in as MIL and I both have loads, again similar condition, generally OK but no dustjackets. Saves me the hassle and costs of Ebay!

Made £66 last night assuming I get paid. Fish tank bloke says he only really wants the cabinet so I can sell some of the accessories separately. But bidding wars really seem to be a thing of the past - watchers seem to see if there's any bids at all and just shrug if something goes for much above start price.

Have fixed the zip on a changing bag so can list that, and MrNC has found some more obscure bits of ancient computer which should sell...

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 09/11/2011 17:55

MamaPizza - yes we combine P&P :)

Dumbledoresgorl - wrap in lots of tissue paper and plenty of bubble wrap plus polystyrene chips/air bags/shredded paper within the box between items and at the very bottom and very top - we always wrap and weigh fully packed before listing so that we can get the P&P cost right. And don't overfill a box with lots of breakables - go up a size but keep things snug. Luckily we've not had anything break yet! Oh, and remember to mark the package as fragile as it wont be covered by Royal Mail if you try to claim for damage in transit otherwise. Basically pack and wrap probably twice as much as you think you need!

mirpuppet · 09/11/2011 21:12

Thanks to this thread and various decluttering threads and the thread about saving listings for free listing days I have ebayed things we have not been using for £277.31. Three things didn't sell and I will relist on the next free listing day as it will be closer to Xmas I think they will go.

mogs0 · 09/11/2011 21:15

OH, my goodness. 6 items just finished with a total final value of £115 Shock. Nearly £50 of it is for 2 of my sister's items but still really pleased Smile.

I've only got one more item listed at the moment so really need to get moving to get all the bits and pieces listed before I run out of time and miss the Christmas rush.

Carrotsandcelery · 09/11/2011 21:44

Well done Mogs that is fantastic.

Those of you with books and dvds, I have just read on another thread that they sell well on the Amazon Marketplace.

I am off to have a look.

Carrotsandcelery · 09/11/2011 21:48

I am taking a look here
