Almost 44 and would love another baby

I was in a as relationship a few years ago and have a daughter who is 7. I’d always wanted more but split with her dad when she was 3. I met someone 2 years ago and we were trying for a baby. Rationship didn’t work out. I’ve found myself considering ivf or sperm donation. I’m almost 44 and feel like it’s now of never. I look after daughter mostly all alone. Dad sees her every other sat and sun.

I’ve spoken to a fertility clinic and I need testing done to determine my egg reserve. I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by costs and worried it’s too late already. I’d been trying around 2 months with previous partner. Both times period was late but then came and was vv heavy and painful.

Let’s be honest, it’s to benefit OP, not her existing kid.

The benefit is to both of us. The main driver is that I’d always wanted 2 children for my child. So they had a sibling to go through life with. I never had that and feel it’s a good thing to give to my existing child. That’s the main driver.

Bloody hell, my sisters and I are NC.
We can't stand each other.

Op lots of people don't get on great with siblings and with a big gap they aren't really going to be close as children.
I have 6year gap and it can be like raising two only children.

Your looking at a 8 year gap thats a 2yo still messing around on toddler swings and a 10yo wanting to do big roller coasters. And no other parent to do parent swap.

You with baby in the baby pool while the 9/10 yo is bored wanting you to throw dive sticks in the big pool.

Or a 10yo at home while 18yo sister is off to uni

When you have 2 parents its easier to divide and conquer one with each child.

You have to want this child because YOU want them. Because its really not going to be easy, especially on your own.

Fostering would mean a child coming in and out of our lives and I think that would be very traumatic for my 7 year old to cope with and would be incredibly irresponsible.

I’m very aware that using a donor egg abs sperm would mean the child isn’t genetically related to me.

I grew up not knowing my bio dad and having a stepdad. I don’t think a child has to be genetically yours for you to be able to love it. I think it’s really strange that people think like that tbh.

Fostering isn’t always like that - in fact mostly it’s not, unless you opt for emergency fostering which probably wouldn’t work for you and your child.

You could also consider adoption. It’s unlikely that you would be able to adopt a baby but a toddler or child similar to your child’s age is likely to be possible.
