This thread is for anyone trying to conceive... or thinking about doing so through donor IUI or donor IVF. Nothing TMI - feel free to join, we are a lovely group here to support and help keep the cray-cray away!

shoes is it pelvic girdle pain that ails you? I have just read a piece in today's Daily Mail (free in the Eurostar lounge) "husband invents pregnancy girdle to ease wife's pain". There is a clinical trial underway...

caution so glad you are with the living! Hope you are feeling better - if not then I think you should call 111 if not able to see your GP. Flowers

pez any news on the eggs?

Hi kwick, I won't have more news until tomorrow when they call to schedule the transfer. Yesterday I still had 8 little embies in the running, I hope they're very actively dividing as I write!!
I read so many stories of women who had lots on day 3 and none on day 5... (Google is not my friend).

Hope the journey goes ok today x

INeedNewShoes · 31/03/2017 08:56

Kwick - my GP and midwife thought it was PGP but my physio says it's not and I think she's right as my symptoms don't fit.
For PGP there are support belts on the market already but they get middling reviews. I'm intrigued to know what's different about the new one.

Caution - I'm glad you're alive! Whereabouts are you based? I'm wondering if we should at some point have a meet up somewhere like Milton Keynes as it might mean more people can make it who live North of London and plan it a couple of months in advance so people can get cheap train tickets.

Pez82 · 31/03/2017 09:05

Oh yes I wanted to comment on this Caution. I'm very happy to meet you at whichever station gets you into London and escort you to our meet up venue

Munrowalker · 31/03/2017 09:09

@pez that sounds good news on your embies. Fingers crossed that they are going strong. Google is often a scary place. Sometimes too much information can be a bad thing. But we are all guilty of it!
I'm going for my first iui today. Mixed feelings about it. Excited to see get started but also need to keep telling myself that it might not work. I keep catching myself dreaming and already thinking ahead to birth dates and pregnancy plans. I know it naive but can't seem to stop it.

INeedNewShoes · 31/03/2017 09:09

Good point. Which train line are you on Caution? If it's the Euston line you and I could meet there and share a taxi.

INeedNewShoes · 31/03/2017 09:13

Munro - good luck Smile Allow yourself to be positive about it today. This one absolutely could work.

I agree though re thinking about due dates etc. I saved that for once I got a BFP. You don't want to get too hung up on counting the time that is passing.

Calz81 · 31/03/2017 09:20

Pez hope your eggs are still going good!

Munro how exciting. I remember feeling the same. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Caution glad your doing ok x

Pez82 · 31/03/2017 09:22

Best of luck Munro, I totally did that for my first IUI especially as my due date would have been my exact birthday! I saw that as a sign but no... I briefly looked at the date for the 2nd and since since number 3 I'm not even looking ☺️.

There is no rule, it's all down to timing and whether the egg you release this month is of the right quality so it can definitely work first time!!! We've had occurrences of this happening on this thread. PMA Smile

taydex · 31/03/2017 09:30

Munro - I totally worked out birthdays for all my IUI cycles. Not sure if it's a good thing or not. Did mean I was able to plan and skip a month to avoid a Christmas baby...

Munrowalker · 31/03/2017 09:32

@taydex this baby would be a badly timed new year baby but to be honest right now I would take any baby date. We avoided the Christmas and new year dates when trying naturally but now we just don't care as much. Also....We've decided that if its a BFN then we can be like....well the date was rubbish anyway

Pez82 · 31/03/2017 09:33

Ah ah I think if my ivf cycle works it will totally be a Xmas baby!!! Not what I wanted initially but at this stage any time will do 😉

INeedNewShoes · 31/03/2017 09:41

I'd made the decision before starting IUI to miss the cycle that would have been a Christmas baby but knowing what I know now with how common it is for a baby to arrive more than 4 weeks early etc. it seems a bit daft that I did that!

taydex · 31/03/2017 10:32

Good logic @munro

We were initally the same re timings (for some reason I had it in my head I wanted an autumn baby) but when it came to it, apart from skipping the Christmas baby month (we were advised a month off would be good anyway so not really sure how much it was really our choice) we threw timings out of the window. As shoes says, best laid plans and all... my friend had her baby 9 weeks early (she's a fine happy healthy 6 month old now) so unless you want to avoid a 3 month window around Christmas... LOL

PhoenixMama · 31/03/2017 10:36

Hi all - thanks for your support and suggestions. I've calmed down a bit and am trying to get more info on stats, etc. Annoyingly most of what I've read contradicts itself! The main thing seems to be that if you don't get pg within 3 IUI's you need to move on to IVF. Some clinics are very much try the least intrusive route first and see what happens. I just wish I had a crystal ball Hmm - don't we all!

Good luck today Munro let us know how you get on!

And great news for you Pez too!

Caution so glad you're in the land of the living - be gentle with yourself!

PhoenixMama · 31/03/2017 11:23

So I spoke to Stork & they think I'd have a 20% chance of pregnancy with IFV and less than 13% with IUI... not sure what that means in real life with no other fertility issues other than age...

INeedNewShoes · 31/03/2017 11:37

I think they're just going on age.

What tests have you had so far?

PhoenixMama · 31/03/2017 11:52

I've had a full bloods & hormone panel (and I mean like 50 different things were tested for)

FSH was 6.3, Luteinising Hormone was 3.0

AMH was 8.5

Then had a uterine/ovarian scan and all was good and clear with active follicles, etc (haven't seen the letter for this yet but the specialist called me to tell me it all looks good and clear).

My cycle is a solid 27 days and I reach peak ovulation on day 12 every month like clockwork...

INeedNewShoes · 31/03/2017 11:54

Why not try IUI then... Are Stork happy for you to make the decision or are they insisting on IVF?

Karendvm · 31/03/2017 12:31

phoenix you have better numbers than me. I'd try iui but that's just me.

Good luck munro the first time is always the scariest simply because you haven't done it before. Hope it goes well.

Calz81 · 31/03/2017 12:34

Phoenix, I was told yesterday that ivf was 33% and natural iui 13%, the same as any couple trying the old fashioned way. stimulated iui is 18%. I would think iui would be a good first step.

hopingandwaiting · 31/03/2017 12:57

Hi guys

Long time no post but I try to keep up with you all (this thread provides great reading for middle of the night feeds).

A positive mental attitude definitely helps munro! I am one of the fabled first time IUIers and currently have my 10week old boy chowing down on a boob, so it really can happen!

Thinking of your little eggs and sending positive thoughts their way Pez

I had to miss a cycle due to Easter and the clinic being shut, otherwise H would have been a Christmas baby!

Good luck to everyone, at whatever stage you are at xx

Pez82 · 31/03/2017 13:20

My hands are shaking!! The clinic said they wouldn't call me today so when the embryologist called just now I imagined the worst!!!
How stressful this is 🤢

My little eggs are doing really well, even the one that hadn't divided yesterday has now caught up and is a 7 cell 👏
All 9 embryos are grade 1, 1 is already 12 cell, and 2 are 10.
Looks like all the fertility food and vitamins are finally helping

Hoping so good to hear from you. Have you seen our meet up poll? You and minihoping should join us if you can (and want)!

Phoenix, these are good numbers so there's no reason why you shouldn't start with IUI. Sometimes I regret not moving to IVF earlier but actually most of the time it makes sense to give IUI a go and if it works you've saved yourself a lot of trouble and money!

taydex · 31/03/2017 13:49

Yes, please come along @hoping and minihoping, will make me feel less of a lemon/intruder! I'll bring along minitaydex too... x
