This thread is for anyone trying to conceive... or thinking about doing so through donor IUI or donor IVF. Nothing TMI - feel free to join, we are a lovely group here to support and help keep the cray-cray away!

Good idea re doddle poll. I have a very comfortable sofa and air bed. Witchcat LOVES visitors. I do also have a spare room but it is mid renovation.

Caution, have you survived??

Kwick am also in an extended handover period. I'm not good at boundaries but I'm advising you to be better Grin

Re calling IVI, can you treat it as the equivalent of an emergency call that you would just take? Will only be a few mins. That's how I've managed to call the council this week, and someone about window bars.

Phoenix it might be especially hard for you because you've already done it once with someone? Im sad for the child because I have a good relationship with my dad but I'm genuinely not sad for myself. Although maybe once I have a child and have no one to share the special moments with maybe I will be!

witchmountain · 30/03/2017 09:15

I also don't mind hosting an afternoon tea. Am a few mins walk from Hampstead Heath so could do a picnic/tea depending on weather. A fertility tea!

Pez82 · 30/03/2017 09:28

Just realised when I filled it in that my April diary is pretty much empty - that's a bit sad to see I've put everything on hold while TTC Confused

PhoenixMama · 30/03/2017 09:33

Thanks for the kind words ladies. Really means a lot!

I'm loving this meet up idea too!

I have a spare room (well can make a room spare lol) for at least one person too and I'm in West London.

pickle162 · 30/03/2017 09:34

Lol me too! I feel like I'm busy all the time but just planning stuff and didn't want to book too much in case I needed to do something related to ttc

witchmountain · 30/03/2017 09:38

Done! Mine is on hold for the decorating I've been failing to do for the last year :)

INeedNewShoes · 30/03/2017 09:44

Witch - I love the way you tell us you've made a phone call re window bars and then in the next breath invite us over for afternoon tea Grin It gives this image of us all sitting there while someone in a stripy jumper tries to steal our cake.

Pez - that's really kind of you to think of me Smile

I would hate for you all to make plans so that I can join you if then I'm not in a fit state to come along, especially because (due to my hip) traveling is difficult so I need to be realistic about where I could get to.
If I did join you it would need to be somewhere I can get sensibly on public transport (unless Stork happened to be driving and could collect me en route) which basically means somewhere within walking distance of Euston or one of the stations on that line (Harrow, Bushey etc.) Regent's Park springs to mind, but that could be a royal pain in the backside for other folks to get to so I don't want to make you all do that!

Normally I would happily drive to Hampstead Heath but my hip can't do stop-start traffic.

I think it might be too complicated for me to join you this time but I'll see how your plans unfold and if I can join you I'd love to!

The other issue of course is that some of you might currently be in a place where you don't want to have to spend the day with me and my undisguisable bump, and I don't want to make anyone feel sad with my presence!

witchmountain · 30/03/2017 10:01

Shoes actual lol. It's safe, honestly! I just have a very secluded back bedroom. I ripped the hideous bars out when I moved in and have had nothing for the last three years but I will kick myself if I get broken into.

You can park immediately outside if someone can ferry you. From Euston it's a fairly short taxi (15 mins) but having grown up somewhere rural I still view taxis as an outrageous extravagance so appreciate you might not want to do that. Happy to go anywhere in London!

witchmountain · 30/03/2017 10:07

If you changed at Willesden Junction and came to gospel oak I could come and get you with my amazing person carrying bike. I'm 0.8 miles from there which is probably too far for you walk. There is also a bus that leaves you at the end of my road.

witchmountain · 30/03/2017 10:08

In case it's not obvious I don't own a car Smile

TTC3years · 30/03/2017 10:12

Awwww gutted I live 200 miles from London Confused

witchmountain · 30/03/2017 10:14

Was about to say maybe we can Skype our more remote friends!

Pez82 · 30/03/2017 10:16

Shoes, I'm sure we can share a cab if it comes to that Smile I personally don't have any issue with your bump!

TTC3, I think the next one will have to be up North!

TTC3years · 30/03/2017 10:23

I just checked trains and it's nearly £100 Confused. If it was just me I would have but I don't think DH or DS would be very impressed!!!!

Although we are getting a flight from Heathrow on Easter Sunday...

Munrowalker · 30/03/2017 11:05

After a second opinion. Is this a surge?
Cheap test and clear blue from this morning

Munrowalker · 30/03/2017 11:07

Can't come to a meet up this weekend. There are flights to London but expensive if booked at short notice. Enjoy it though!

Pez82 · 30/03/2017 11:28

Munro, we haven't decided on the date yet. Fill free to give us your availability on here https://beta.doodle.com/poll/ammrqyhqx9d7fu2f

I wouldn't say this is a positive yet but the next one will probably be!

The clinic just called. 8 embryos doing really well and 1 hasn't divided yet. So it should be a day 5 transfer on Sunday. No more call until Saturday now Confused

Pez82 · 30/03/2017 11:32

BTW, our meet up is not only for those of us who are using magic potion - that includes donor eggs/embryos too! I don't mean to be reductive!!!

Pez82 · 30/03/2017 11:33

And I meant feel free not fill!!! Sorry I'm OCD when it comes to spelling, I had to correct this Blush

PhoenixMama · 30/03/2017 13:54

Hi ladies - HELP! So I just heard back from StorkKlinik & they are saying I should go straight to IVF due to my age (42 in 3 weeks). CFC said they'd recommend up to 3 IUIs and then go to IVF. I'm feeling totally anxious now. How do you choose? I feel like I can't wait but IVF would mean waiting to save up even more. In explicitly upset and no idea what to do!

Pez82 · 30/03/2017 14:12

Hi phoenix, first don't panic!
Have they given you success rates for both options based on your AMH and antral follicule count? And would the IUIs be medicated or natural?
IVF success depends a lot on the above as you might not respond to the meds. Kwick can tell you all about it as I remember her saying that she was given the same success rate for IUI and IVF.
Their recommendation can't just be based on your age, some women who are way in their 40s have decent AMH while others have a low ovarian reserve when they reach their 30s. Do you know yours? I think that will be the determining factor.

And if you go for IVF, would you still do it abroad? You would need to be there for all scans and blood work so probably about 2 weeks total.

Sorry if I only added to the dilemma. It's not a decision to rush into and I'm sure others will have an opinion too Smile

witchmountain · 30/03/2017 14:12

Phoenix on my way I to a meeting but didn't want to read and run, so apologies if this sounds brusque! Sorry they've thrown a spanner in the works, the variations in advice are really unnerving. Objectively, I wonder if IUI would give you a false sense of "not waiting"? At any age it's quite unlikely that you will get pregnant from the first IUI or even the the second. I don't know the odds for you age off the top of my head, or how hey compare to IVF but I though IVF were better? But you could spend the money on three IUIs and still not be pregnant and then have to save for IVF. So hard to say without knowing how your cash flow works. There will be other perspectives along soon I'm sure. But mulling it over for the next few days will not change anything, so give yourself a bit of time.

INeedNewShoes · 30/03/2017 14:20

Phoenix I personally would always choose to give the least invasive route (IUI) a chance first but that really is just my personal approach and I know others here disagree.

I think in your shoes I would book a Hycosy at a UK clinic (if you haven't had one recently) and ask them to have a look at your ovaries while they're there. For £400 you could establish whether your tubes are clear and whether you are growing promising looking eggs. If you are and all your blood tests come back with good hormone levels, then IUI is worth a try. If any of the tests indicate a problem then IVF might be the better route.

Calz81 · 30/03/2017 14:43

Your meet up sounds fab! Should be a goood day.
I've had my appointment, I'm going to try a stimulated iui as my final go before considering ivf. They do up to 6 iui's before moving to ivf and this will be my 6th go.
I've also asked about the prices and what exactly they include. I'm going to do that on my next cycle which is mid April. Keeping fingers crossed.
Good news on the eggs pez! X
