What's an appropriate holiday for a SAHM?

Hi All,

Looking for opinions & perspective. Wife has said she'd like to go on holiday with her best mate for a week. We have two children and I have no problem looking after them for a week. As a SAHM I think she fully deserves a week off. Problem is, the best friend is single (both in their late 30's) and they want to go to a party island (not decided but Tenerife, Majorca, Ibiza, Crete have all been mentioned). The best friend likes living the single life (but is always looking out for a boyfriend) and meeting guys, so basically the best friend wants a "wing woman" to go away with. They both like a drink, scratch that, when the opportunity arises they like to get legless.

Is it fair that I am uncomfortable with my wife being in that environment for a full week with a friend who is likely to want to go out to bars and clubs to meet guys most (if not every) night with the inevitable drink fuelled shenanigans that would follow?

Before the inevitable "don't you trust your wife question", I do, to an extent, but an extended stay in this environment watching a single friend do what she wants is a worry.

So, what do you think?

I was a real party girl, been to Ibiza, Majorca & Mykonos a few times really had good fun BUT have been to those places accompanied by coupled up friends & they have managed to stay faithful & to not pull or even get chatted up.

Especially when you are older than early 20s it's not so easy to just get chatted up anyway & that's the reality.. it really depends what signals you give off.

If you are off your face then obviously men will be more tempted to try things as I have found & as a woman who is married your wife will have to consider that when deciding to get pissed up.

So to be blunt

Sorry posted too soon so would I be worried if a male partner went to a party island to get pissed??

Yes probably but I have trust issues anyway & low self esteem.
Do you?

If not then try trusting her.

Only you know what she's like when she's drunk.

If your wife would enjoy that sort of holiday and the family funds stretch to a separate trip, then why not?

DH is a SAHD. He has twice gone to a "party island" with larger groups of childfree people. It didn't worry me at all. My only real concern was that they'd all get so drunk they'd do something stupid like fall into a pool and drown. But then I slapped myself around a bit and got over it! Grin.

More than fair question OP! If my husband didn't care that I was off to Ibiza with a single best mate, who’s known to get legless and she wants a winglady, I’d think he couldn't care less! It's the having someone at home who you love and miss, and who you know is missing you and hoping you're ok that restores your faith in relationships. Especially in those places, it's nice to watch the singletons the next morning avoiding each other at the pool or buffet because they're embarrassed about their "shenanigans" of the night before whilst you're smirking into your OJ. I love my DH to bits and am not likely to go on holiday without him, but if I did it would totally make me just want to be there with him and probably REALLY want to see him when I get home. So, as long as you DO trust her (normally people trust their partners but don't LIKE the idea of others trying to flirt with them) let her go and be a good friend, unwind, have a week off and then welcome her back with open arms... and other goodies! :D
