There are quite a lot of football fans on MN, and also loads of football-haters. If we hide here in Dadsnet, none of the detractors will find us. But if they do, they are welcome to come here and moan.

You don?t have to be male to post here, of course. (No-one would say women can?t post in the Dadsnet section, just like no woman would EVER say men aren?t welcome on Mumsnet?)

Footy fans please sign in with

Personally I have far more respect for any fan of a 'tinpot' club, that he / she has a real link to like living near the club or family links, than the many glory hunting fans that follow successful clubs simply because they are successful. The real supporters of big clubs (like the United fans actually from Manchester) get this and show respect - it is usually the glory hunting type of fan who does not attend that is dismissive. Which are you Nick?

NicholasTeakozy · 17/05/2012 16:26

I supported my then local team, Telford United, from about 1970 till I moved away in 2001. There was a period from about 1983 to 1995 during which I didn't miss a home game, that run got broken by a family holiday in forrin. I now try to go to matches at Ryman level, it's good fun.

ElBurroSinNombre · 18/05/2012 09:28

Welcome aboard Nick.

ElBurroSinNombre · 18/05/2012 10:38

I did hear that in another cost cutting move Liverpool are going to appoint Ken Dodd as their new manager. There will be no need to buy new training kit as Dodd can use all the stuff with KD already on it. Fans think that things will be much the same as before only not as funny!

BelfastBloke · 18/05/2012 12:56

Pep Guardiola left Barcelona to take a sabbatical.

If he wanted a sabbatical from the Champions' League, he could still take the Liverpool job comfortably.

Speaking of 'The Blight of Bayern Munich', as we were, can't believe some Aston Villa fans turning up their noses at Ole Gunnar becoming AV's next manager. Really intelligent bloke, as a player a voracious note taker, even in games where he is not involved, proven motivational skills, knows what success 'looks like', and has a slightly exotic last name. What more do AVFC supporters thing they are entitled to? (talk years ago of him staying at OT to be SAF succesor - different path, same aim).

Pan · 19/05/2012 11:40

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in the news - Bayern play tonight.

BelfastBloke · 19/05/2012 20:30

Chelsea have made a pact with the devil. Just like with Chelsea v Barca, Bayern are missing shots they really would normally put away.

Oh bugger!

Oblomov · 19/05/2012 22:33

oh shit

BelfastBloke · 19/05/2012 22:36

Didn't want this to happen, at all....

Supporting Bayern all the way....

But in a pub full of spurs fans...

Ho ho ho.

Does Chelsea have the highest ratio of wankers per team? Terry, Lampard , Cole.
And now Bleakley will be all over the papers going on about 'my Frank' Angry

Pan · 20/05/2012 00:11

oh shit indeed. Wanker ratio per team? Pretty much I reckon. (out with a confirmed non-footie friend who asked 'there's a footie game tonight isn't there. But no-one wants the English team to win. Why's that?'.....

Well.....

Pan · 20/05/2012 08:50

and it doesn't look any better in the morning does it? Slight gripe - 1999 Keane and Scholes appear in club suits and ties as they were not playing or on the bench, as they had 'broke the rules of the game'. Terry is obv. above that consideration. Wanker.

Pan · 20/05/2012 09:02

and Dara O' Briain agrees with me, so that's alright. Apparently all of the suspended players did it.

and really big condolences to ElBurro - sounded like you had them under the hammer for quite a bit? Seasiders would have been a pleasure in the PL again, imho - West Ham's style bit 'same old same old'?

BelfastBloke · 20/05/2012 10:12

(out with a confirmed non-footie friend who asked 'there's a footie game tonight isn't there. But no-one wants the English team to win. Why's that?'.....')

I had the exact same experience with my mate, Pan. Although in a room full of Spurs fans not wanting Chelsea to take their 4th spot, there was a simpler explanation than the ratio of wankers per team.

Thanks Pan,
Yes, on chances created Blackpool definitely deserved to win the game, it was a good exciting match decided on very small margins - just hoping we can do what Reading did this season, next season.
Not really getting the antipathy towards Chelsea on here. They have been involved in some of the most memorable and dramatic games seen for a long time and I for one am glad an English team has won the CL. I am not a fan of JT and what he has done, but him and the others are just young men with a lot of cash who are under the spotlight. Who on here never did anything stupid or crass when they were young? Luckily we did not have the media reporting our every move.

Pan · 25/05/2012 13:59

....popped in to stir the tanks.....

KenDoddsDadsDog · 25/05/2012 21:37

What teams are you supporting in the Euros and who will win?!

BelfastBloke · 28/05/2012 18:19

I'll be supporting both England and Republic of Ireland, and I've got a sneaking feeling about Holland winning it.

OP posts:
KenDoddsDadsDog · 28/05/2012 20:56

Same here plus Spain.

Pan · 29/05/2012 00:08

KDDD - It's the Final. Scotland v Holland...and Archie Gemmill does ..and Scotland win Euro 2012! Oche Aye!!....

oh, alarm sound..it's morning....
oh well.

Yep. Republic of Ireland and then England. Just hope the English remember the long odds a few weeks ago, and there isn't some recrimination when they fail to get out of their group...

ElBurroSinNombre · 29/05/2012 09:46

Is anyone else not unhappy that Gareth Barry is unable to make the Euros?
To me he is slower than a tortoise with a broken leg and has the turning circle of a double decker bus.

Phil Jones looks like an exciting prospect in that position - at least he can provide some attacking threat - could be what England need in midfield.

CurrySpice · 29/05/2012 16:42

I am supporting England and holland. I have my orange hat and glasses all ready

BelfastBloke · 29/05/2012 16:55

The Guardian thinks the most glaring omission from England's team is Carrick, especially as the midfield often gives the ball away.

I don't mind Barry not going. But Lampard and Gerrard in the midfield again? Give me strength.
