Worried about Drumcree

I feel like an interloper here and apologies if this isnt in the right place.

im really worried about the decision over Drumcree and I can’t see it ending well today either way.

I have no time for Jamie Bryson or Carla Lockhart and it seems that tensions have been stoked on both sides.

My parents (and one set of grandparents) were a mixed marriage - my mum and dad moved to England in the 1960s, and my granny and grandpa moved back in the late 70s/80s once they retired. Im aware I don’t have enough if a real understanding, but I have enough to be worried.

again, im sorry if this is the wrong place or offensive.

You are massively oversimplifying things here.
23 we’re murdered.

10 Catholic churches were set on fire.

Do you remember the school
children being escorted by military and riot police just to get to school & still getting bombed?

There are plenty of us who do remember this sickening bunch of thugs.

Any notion you have that they are an innocent group just wanting to match is beyond deluded.

This is inflammatory and after nearly 3 decades a stupid idea that will end any chance of peace in Ireland.

The same loyalists claimed in July to police their intent to “kill a Catholic a day” until they’ve been permitted to March on this one very contentious road.

Let’s not pretend this is a community event, it’s a blatant act of thuggery.

They can literally March home in another direction, why do you believe specifically this road has been banned for 28 years? And why do you think this bunch of idiots have bussed in hoarded of folks in balaclavas? Hint, it’s not for a peaceful night out.

The High Court seriously needs to explain this decision, it’ll haunt us all for years.

Less than forty men wanting to walk down a road and it is 'blatant thuggery'.. you are a good laugh, haha.

Unfortunately this whole thing is going to backfire on nationalists as their talking heads can no longer claim to want a shared community for everyone. They've just put back their dream referendum at least another 20 years. Many of them and their murderous ilk will never live to see it.

It's a shame. I have no beef with peaceful roman catholics, I wish them well. But those who reckon there was no alternative to murdering innocent people have a terrible awakening ahead of them, and I do not wish that for them.

Ouch. Assuming he'd ever heard of her.

If all they want to do is walk down a road then there are many alternatives they can fuck off down instead of this one. It is blatantly obvious this old bastards are only out for one thing, to cause mayhem and try exert control. I think this actually will push closer to a referendum on a UI at this rate now it is plain to see that the orange ballbags and their supporters are nothing but evil.

Are you for real?
This is so inaccurate & offensive, your lack of understsnding of this situation is terrifyingly blinding.

Kinda surreal how the Union of Crowns emboldened James 6th/1st to take on the Border Reivers & deliver the choice of death, military service or exile to Ireland to hold "his" Kingdom has all coalesced once again in this moment in time to Drumcree. Again.

Pinkies crossed. Let's not go back.

Many of said Reivers moved on to Appalachia. Or Canada. They've always been on a frontier of sorts? Personally I'm agnostic about a United Ireland. Perhaps a joint sovereignty of some kind might work. But that's up to people in Northern Ireland.
One things for sure : the GFA is the last best chance for peace. It simply must work.

If anyone on the thread is unclear about this situation and the history, please read the posts from @MarieDeGournay

Calm, clear and historically accurate.

Villagetoraiseachild · 27/09/2026 19:07

This is not being clearly reported here in England as the Fairford situation is dominating. Has the situation there dispersed yet or is it ongoing? Thanks.

Anonanonanonagain · 27/09/2026 19:07

Still ongoing.

Are you aware that the gaels were pushed out of Antrim... how far back do you want to go? Are you next going to argue that you are descended from Abel and have beef with the descendents of Cain? You and your kin are the dinosaurs who will not move forward and northern ireland will, until the end, be stuck in this mess. Says a lot when you have to hark back to days outside of living memory for every single person living on the island.

The fact stands that the most damage in the past 30 years was done by nationalists. I hope they repent of it as I would not like to be them in eternity.

I think it's fair enough to go back to the point when the island of Ireland was invaded, ethnically cleansed and colonised by people whose descendants are still here, some of whom are still throwing their weight around and acting like they own the place.

The wholesale oppression of Ireland started in earnest about the 16th century. The Plantations of Munster and the later and more consequential Plantation of Ulster involved widespread murder, torture, ethnic cleansing and manufactured famine. I think that's the natural place to start when trying to understand the current situation - there is a continuous thread from the 16th century to 2026, and the theme of the thread was that it was never good to be a native Irish person, you were going to be oppressed and tortured and dehumanised and displaced and killed and starved at regular intervals all through the centuries.

What did they say well?

That 35 men in walking silently along a public road is not blatant thuggery?

Thousands of people illegally protesting at any lawful procession is shocking in this day and age. That First Minister for all should hang her head in shame bringing dissident republicans onto the street who have no issues with attacking police and their families.

That is what she said well.

Anonanonanonagain · 27/09/2026 19:16

Well the orange thugs only got their approval for their shitshow at 2.30am there was no time between then and 8am to apply for approval for a protest against them walking down a road they have no reason to be walking down in order to keep the past 30 years of peace. This is ALL on them.

Why do you think this march is a good thing?

JaneJeffer · 27/09/2026 19:18

Why do you think this march is a good thing?

Not once did I say I thought it was a good thing.

it has been through the courts on three occasions and the Court of Appeal finalised the decision that it should proceed with the parades commission determinations.

Morally I don’t agree with it but legally they have every right to proceed but are being hindered by thousands of people bussed in from all over NI and beyond. It just goes to show the complete hypocrisy in NI and how childish elected representatives are.

As I said further down the thread, it is the Police my sympathy lies with. They are damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

You don’t remember 1997 then?

That and this today is the very definition of blatant thuggery & pure hatred.
Let’s stop pretending these 35 men don’t bear ill. They are pondlife scum who would kill you, your granny and then reverse just make sure.
This is likely a setback Portadown will never recover from, there had been glimmers of hope, but not now.
There are umpteen public roads these Eejits coukd walk down, why exactly do you suppose this one is of such importance to them?

The answer is simple , they want triumph where they already sowed tragedy.

JaneJeffer · 27/09/2026 19:30

ok @hafig I don’t understand what you’re trying to say though? You don’t agree with it but you think that it should go ahead?

favouriteflowers · 27/09/2026 19:32

Why? Again can any of those defending the OO and DuP explain why these “Christian Men” can only walk down this road???

anyone? please don’t insult us by saying because the court said so!

There is no defending this.

It is an act of pure wickedness. Whatever the High Court we’re thinking is beyond anybody of sound mind.

No I think it is morally wrong for it to go ahead. But lawfully it has been verified as legal.

The same cannot be said about the protest which is illegally infringing on the rights imposed by the courts to allow it to go ahead.

I can’t see a good outcome for either side on this one.

Thanks I recall it very well thank you. And the years either side of 1997.

Anonanonanonagain · 27/09/2026 19:46

The fact they go after this one road year after year after the peace process is the most telling thing. If they did not continue to apply for approval and left things alone none of this would have happened. It is the sheer audacity.

It isn't that they can only walk down this road now, is it? It's that they should not be stopped from walking it. And that they should never have been stopped from doing so.
