Hi Craicnetters!

I was looking for the other thread and see it's fallen way down the list so I decided to make a new one for all our daily musings ☘️

Dermot has returned with Room to Improve and all the annoying participants!
Schools opening late around us. Very wet so could be icy...stay safe on commutes everyone.

LadyEloise1 · 05/01/2026 08:52

There’s a new thread on Dermot’s Room To Improve, @JaneJefferstarted it.
I take it you’re not a fan @eggandonion😀

eggandonion · 05/01/2026 08:59

Dh and I with practically zero knowledge of capital gains tax and similar were trying to work out why the owners were moving from their really nice house which we envied.
I follow the discussions on twitter. Even more cynical than me!

LadyEloise1 · 05/01/2026 09:15

Where on Twitter is it being discussed @eggandonionplease ?
I couldn’t find it.

eggandonion · 05/01/2026 09:29

#roomtoimprove. It's also trending Ireland. 😀

Delighted for Jessie Buckley, Maggie O’ Farrell and all involved in Hamnet.
Flying the flag for us.
I haven’t seen it yet.

eggandonion · 12/01/2026 22:19

Its nice to have a bit of good news😀 Jessie seems like a laugh!

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 13/01/2026 09:17

It's brilliant news! 🌟
Jessie does seem like good fun and comes across as a grounded person.

eggandonion · 13/01/2026 09:37

I was also stunned by the young scientist winner. Having sat through various graduation ceremonies her title sounded like a PhD. Strype are a good fit with the competition too.

Amazing achievement by Daragh Mac Loughlin 👏🏻🏆

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 27/01/2026 13:01

I hope everyone is ok with all this flooding going on. We're in the South East and it's pretty bad, as bad as I can ever remember really, but we live on a hill thank God so haven't been personally affected. My heart goes out to anyone who's home has been damaged, its a horrible thing to experience. There's more rain to come later today so I expect things will get worse again by tonight 😩

honeyrider · 27/01/2026 14:01

I'm in Waterford City/suburb, Noah needs to come back with the ark. I've to go on a school run shortly and not looking forward to it.

UtopiaPlanitia · 27/01/2026 16:03

The weather here in Ulster was shocking all night - kept us awake. We had a quieter period for a while earlier but in the last hour or so the heavy rain has started up again.

My heart goes out to everyone having to deal with flooding and adverse circumstances.

DeanElderberry · 27/01/2026 16:09

Go safe @honeyrider and anyone forced to go out. The sky is a little lighter here than it was earlier, but I don't think it's all over. And the downside of living part way up a hill is that all the stuff that fell up-slope will be trickling down through us for days.

LadyEloise1 · 28/01/2026 12:13

Sun shining here in Dublin. For how long ?
It should have been a Red warning for many areas imho.

UtopiaPlanitia · 28/01/2026 15:55

Same here in my part of Ulster - beautiful calm bright day. I've lived in this country all my life and the changeability of the weather here still manages to surprise me 🤷‍♀️

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 29/01/2026 09:46

@LadyEloise1 I had thought the same but was sort of half-listening to a weather expert the other day and he was saying that the warning system we have doesn't really address flood risk as it doesn't take into account the amount of rainfall preceeding the new weather alert and how much is on mountains and the current levels of rivers etc. I think he was saying we need a separate flood warning system and apparently that has been called for many times but for some reason hasn't happened yet. Sounds like he is right. By the time the storm hit we'd already experienced double the usual levels of rainfall for January. It all has to go somewhere. My garden has been like a swamp for weeks now.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 29/01/2026 09:46

It has been the wettest January!
