Hi Craicnetters!

I was looking for the other thread and see it's fallen way down the list so I decided to make a new one for all our daily musings ☘️

The rose of Tralee 😞 why oh why is this still on. FB is awash with articles on it, the comments 😳😳😳😳 Dear God shocking is an understatement!! Why do Irish people feel the need to make such disgusting comments on people's weight, faces, hair etc it's like housewife of the year, dated and needs to go.

LadyEloise1 · 09/10/2025 16:41

I see Ray D’arcy is gone.
I was listening in today - channel hopping in the car and heard someone else on. I thought Ray must have a day off. But no. He’s gone.
I hope he gets another gig. It’s not easy.

eggandonion · 09/10/2025 16:50

That's really odd...I saw it online somewhere. So morning ireland lost two presenters, Claire Byrne is going, Joe Duffy retired, Ray has gone and Sean Rocks died.

honeyrider · 09/10/2025 20:33

Looks like he was let go and he's not happy about how RTE handled it.

Looks like it.
I wonder what the show’s JNLR figures were like ?
That time slot is a tough one.

eggandonion · 10/10/2025 10:52

I think the expert on Morning Ireland said figures were well down...something like 250k to 180k. I only hear tiny bits of Ray in the car. I don't ever turn the radio on to listen.

LadyEloise1 · 10/10/2025 14:54

Personally I think it’s a pity Katie Hannon or another guy who was very good - I can’t remember his name , who presented in early September didn’t get the gig.
I think Kieran Cuddihy could present and would be very good on what is the Claire Byrne Morning show on RTE Radio 1.
She’s going to Newstalk.

So sad to read that Phillip Cairns mother Alice has died without finding out what happened to her darling son.
Phillip disappeared in 1986 at the age of 13. Vanished on his lunch break returning to school.
His dad died 11 years ago.
My heart goes out to any loving parent whose child has gone missing.
The heartfelt pain must be utterly crushing.

Apileofballyhoo · 13/11/2025 20:52

I hadn't heard that. So sad.

eggandonion · 16/11/2025 17:05

This is desperately sad. So is the crash in Louth, poor families.
With all the soccer excitement and celebrations it's easy to forget and overlooked the sad events.

Heartbreaking.🥲🥲🥲
6 of them in the one car.

If only we could put old heads on young shoulders.

JaneJeffer · 16/11/2025 19:18

I did plenty similar journeys myself in years gone by when you just wanted to get home after a night out.

I know...Times have changed in terms of safety in cars but youth and excitement does lead to risks even so.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 16/11/2025 19:57

I was so sorry to hear this 😔

CrinaCara · 16/11/2025 21:39

I live in the UK now but just noticed the awful news about the crash in Dundalk. Terrible 😞

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 17/11/2025 09:49

It's horrific and heartbreaking. I am constantly reminding my DS that they shouldn't try to squeeze more people than there are seatbelts into a car and that they need to quiet down so that whoever's driving isn't distracted etc. but I know it falls on deaf ears. He and they think they are invincible at that age 😞

DeanElderberry · 17/11/2025 18:05

And get their tyres checked regularly. The last times my car was getting its NCT people in before me were failed for tyres, and an overloaded car/wet road/young driver multiple tragedy in this county a few years ago was partly down to lack of grip on the road.

Where would they have to advertise to reach young drivers?

eggandonion · 17/11/2025 18:36

It's difficult to know who young people would listen to.

Livingthebestlife · 18/11/2025 10:30

Paschal Donohue steps down ??? Going to work for world bank.

eggandonion · 18/11/2025 11:09

All the older people are leaving. We will have Simon and Jack minding us.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 18/11/2025 14:45

Donohoe is a big loss and I have to say I feel no confidence in hearing that Harris is taking his place!
McIntee is gone to Foreign Affairs and Hildegarde Naghton is now Minister for Education.

God help us 🙄

eggandonion · 01/12/2025 11:38

Oh no...Hugh Wallace has died. He was an architectural national treasure 😕

JaneJeffer · 01/12/2025 11:49

Aww that’s sad. He was so lovely to watch and could critique something in such a charming way without anyone feeling insulted. Rest in peace Hugh
