Hi Craicnetters!

I was looking for the other thread and see it's fallen way down the list so I decided to make a new one for all our daily musings ☘️

We must have been listening to the same interview @LifeInAHamsterWheel

It has been the wettest January!

And it's STILL not over!! (surely there's more than 31 days in this month?!)

LadyEloise1 · 29/01/2026 11:28

I was just reading an article online on RTE about folk beliefs re weather in Ireland.
It’s an interesting article.
It said that St.Paul’s Day 25th January was the day for weather prediction - if it is clear, the weather for the year will be good.
We’re in Dublin and we went for a walk on Sunday and didn’t get wet so………

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 29/01/2026 13:07

I remember I went for a walk last Sunday as well and it was a lovely day 🤞

Boolabus · 30/01/2026 08:22

Just clicked on this thread for the first time, not sure why but I always assumed it was a thread to chat in Irish 😂, seems like I have been missing out on some lovely chat.

I am in Dublin very near the bad flooding in south Dublin it has been terrible to see houses and roads I have never seen flooded before destroyed. More rain forecast today must be so stressful for those who have already been flooded watching the waters rise again.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 30/01/2026 08:43

Hi Boolabus (love your name!)
Welcome* *to the thread!

It's high time we had a flood warning system in place, as the Carlow Weather Man has been saying for ages.

It's terrible to see the destruction caused by floods.

eggandonion · 30/01/2026 09:23

This thread really began in covid didn't it? What a weird time. And now the floods in unusual places.

LadyEloise1 · 02/02/2026 09:01

Anyone watch These Sacred Vows on RTE1 ?

honeyrider · 02/02/2026 09:53

Anyone watch These Sacred Vows on RTE1 ?

Not yet, is it worth it?

LadyEloise1 · 02/02/2026 10:18

Apparently it’s the Irish equivalent of The White Lotus.
I haven’t seen that.
I will watch Episode 2 of These Sacred Vows but not sure it’s for me.
There’s a great review of it in the Irish Times by Ed Power of it. He’s not a fan.
I have to say Tom Vaughan Lawlor is a great actor - from Nidge to his character in this, Father Vincent.

Anyone watch These Sacred Vows on RTE1 ?

I watched it - Tom Vaughan Lawlor is an incredible actor. How he can be Nidge and a priest is impressive. I liked it and will watch again next week.

JaneJeffer · 02/02/2026 11:54

I’ve got it recorded but I’m terrible for watching a couple of episodes of something and then forgetting to watch the rest.

Boolabus · 02/02/2026 16:44

I watched it. I'm interested enough to watch next episode, some of the acting not great. Tom Vaughan Lawlor outstanding and is holding it together really, would be pretty dire without him

LadyEloise1 · 02/02/2026 17:10

The plump fellow who Fr Vincent thinks nicked his money, the one buying drugs - he didn’t seem to fit in with the others at the villa. Even though some of them are pretty nasty people too.

eggandonion · 04/02/2026 12:20

I need Spring to arrive.
Im fascinated with all the Epstein news...how did he have time to juggle his various operations? He must have had many staff beyond Ghislaine. So many layers of wrong.

TwirlBar · 04/02/2026 12:28

I need Spring to arrive.

It has officially, hasn’t it?

February 1st is traditionally the first day of spring in Ireland…although I think the crowd in Met Éireann see it differently 🤔

LadyEloise1 · 04/02/2026 12:32

And he was no stranger to Ireland apparently @eggandonion
Hmmmm
But seeing as so was Jimmy Saville and I don’t think we ever had an inquiry into his activities and his involvement with vulnerable patients both adults and children here, remember his visits to the Central Remedial clinic and hospitals, I won’t hold my breath re finding out was JE was doing here.

eggandonion · 04/02/2026 13:49

In my head Valentines Day is the start of Spring. Despite the long stretch it was really gloomy here by 5pm yesterday.

LadyEloise1 · 04/02/2026 15:42

We’ll be needing a new thread soon enough @JaneJeffer

JaneJeffer · 04/02/2026 15:54

I’m happy to make one but if anyone else wants a go fire away!

I wonder if @iblinkedandiamoldis ok. She was a great contributor to these threads.
Miss you

eggandonion · 25/02/2026 11:25

Yes she was a big contributor in the early days. February is nearly over...lots of daffodils and cherry blossom here dodging the rain!
Another bad crash in Donegal. Road fatality stats get no better. Cars have so many safety features now compared to the bangers we used to have ...I see dangerous driving every day.

I don't live on the border anymore and when I'm visiting home, I'm always shocked at how dangerous the standard of driving is - so many people drive like maniacs and seem to find it completely normal. There seems to be no conception of potential oncoming traffic on steep hills and blind bends, they drive as if they're the only car on the road.

LadyEloise1 · 25/02/2026 18:29

I agree with you .
I live in Dublin and it shocks me when I see the speed of motorists on quiet country roads.
There’s a dual carriageway in Dublin and the speed limit is 60kmh. Quite often there are garda speed “traps” on it. Pat Kenny used to rail against it saying it was shooting fish in a barrel and I agree with him as winding country roads at that time had 100kmh speed limits. Daft !
They have now been reduced.
I think Donegal has a particular problem with car accidents. I’d like to know the statistics over a 20 year period.
Is it the roads, the drivers, the cars or a combination of all 3 ?

eggandonion · 25/02/2026 19:53

We have 2 supermarket carparks with clearly marked one way systems and pedestrian walkways. The standard of driving in them is terrible. Let alone on the open road.
