Sorry my phone died, No it isn't.
But screaming racism and right wing every time people dare to mention that the current government policy on immigration and the large numbers of people entering not just Ireland but Europe isn't a solution either.
We are a country that is already failing on so many fronts to provide for the people who live here.
My dd went to a large mixed sex school in Dublin leaving in recent years.
During her time in the school, sexual assault, harassment in person and online raised to levels the school had never seen since it opened in the 1960s. The school also had significant number of minority students enter around the same time.
At a meeting with the principal, imagine my surprise to be told that a large number of these incidents involved males from this minority. And it was a serious issue the school were struggling with because of lack of parental support in taking the issues seriously, and difficulties with girls willing to make statements to the Garda. When I asked why it wasn't being discussed publicly I was told these issues are 'sensitive' ie the school was afraid of being labelled racist.
Ireland has 100% an issue with violence against women and children but in comparison to some countries it is a bloody safe haven. And its unrealistic to think that migration from areas of the world with even worse issues of violence against women and children won't impact on society.
Then add into the mix the home grown problems in Ireland with you know trying to keep a roof over your head, most people working themselves half to death to have a rapidly decreasing quality of life on pretty much all fronts
Well its a perfect storm.
