Gender Critical in Ireland Part 3

VaddaABeetch · 03/04/2023 13:07

I’m watching RTE news. They mentioned the Garda representatives organisation are concerned about Gender Identity in the workplace. It’s been brought in without consultation & without training.

the Garda Commissioner has said that Garda may be disciplined for misgendering.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

@ladymactíre is there any way you could cut & edit it to the debate part?
My mother sent an email to our local td this morning & followed up with a call to his office, his receptionist wrote down mam's concerns & said she'll get a call from him after 2 so here's hoping.
she is so pissed off, she's 80 & has 9 grandchildren, 6 grandaughters & she is so worried about where this could leave them.

@HilarysMantelpiece it's behind a paywall, what's the book?

The book in question is called "This Book is Gay" by Juno Dawson. The author recently said "We’re all very clear ‘This Book is Gay’ is not for children." So why is it marketed and promoted by librarians as being suitable for them?

Bláthannabuí · 06/04/2023 12:38

Thanks @Genesis1v27 to be honest I see this as another little win & we've had a few in the past couple of weeks. Now we need to follow what the TRAs do bests.
We have been given an inch recently, we need to take a mile. No compromise!

Genesis1v27 · 06/04/2023 12:52

More on the book:

Parents welcome removal of explicit sex book from school curriculum

It was on the curriculum? How? And by whom?

And on Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí:

Parents at Kerry school refute claims that students were consulted about gender neutral toilets

Bláthannabuí · 06/04/2023 13:01

@Genesis1v27 thank you! Some lunchtime reading. Yes that's really good progress from a parental viewpoint especially as the author herself said it was not suitable for children.
Libraries & staff are at fault here.. What's the agenda Roderic o Gorman Minister for children?? 🤔

Bláthannabuí · 06/04/2023 13:27

Following what's going on in the UK & it really is heartwarming to think that women's rights just might be protected..
Does anyone feel that Rishi might be more invested than our lot as he has two young little girls himself & can see the gravity of the current situation for what it is?

Newstalk Breakfast covered the book this morning:

@Genesis1v27 I completely agree with her. The education department haven't a leg to stand on here.

ladymactíre · 06/04/2023 14:06

@Bláthannabuí I am sorry, but I don't know if it can be done. There is software to edit, but I'm not knowledgeable in this area

I saw only the start of it, I left the rest for tomorrow. It is an effort to listen to them.
We are not represented in these so called debates at all. The presenter is totally biased, 2 politicians, 1 trans and 1 lady who's not allowed to speak. It's been said again that the GRA legislation was largely debated and they don't understand how these problems arise only now.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 06/04/2023 14:11

The only discussion around an issue related to this was the long saga of Dr Lydia Foy. One (very persistent) person with feelings. And all the rest of us stripped of the description 'woman' as a result.

Bláthannabuí · 06/04/2023 14:12

But again it is another example of the blatent transgender propoganda & the state controlled censorship.. They are completly pushing the trans narrative..

I sent another couple of emails on my lunch break. I'm so consumed & angry at the way we're being silenced. RTÉ also are not reporting on the proposed amendments to the equality act in the UK which will potentially stop TRAs going into our spaces.
My mam says it's been on Sky news all day but radio silence from RTÉ. State controlled censorship.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 06/04/2023 14:17

I meant to say the only discussion that I remember. I'm a bit of a news and current affairs junkie, but I had a lot of responsibilities between 2012 and 2015 and could have blinked. I'm pretty sure I'd have remembered this though - I do very much remember getting cross about the fawning over Foy.

Villagetoraiseachild · 06/04/2023 17:27

Hi Blathannabui, things are peaking in the UK for several reasons...

Nicola and Isla situation, huge impact.

Parliamentary petition that raised well over the necessary 100,000 votes that would bring it towards debate over clarifying that sex means biological sex. That happened this year and Mumsnet and then JKR tweet really helped bring it about. Followed by letters to MPs and Petitions Committee

The Labour party are messing up on this and the Tory party are looking strong, most likely for some or other political advantage, but fair play to them, they are holding a line.

All those factors are feeding off each other and creating momentum and real progress and more waking up.

Not sure of your process over there, but do you currently have any petitions going?
They help focus things and at the end of the day, the legislation is going to have to change.

P.S possibly Rishi's no doubt highly intelligent daughters are exerting their influence!

Dishwasherdisaster · 06/04/2023 17:33

@Villagetoraiseachild Re the petition - our equality act already says gender, it doesn't even say sex any more, not to mind biological sex😟

Bláthannabuí · 06/04/2023 17:43

@Villagetoraiseachild this is great info. I'm currently not aware of any petitions, can any mumsnetters direct me if there is?

Our govt is a joke but when it comes to transgenderism all parties are all very united!

Barbie Kardashian & Gulia the GAA player with the genitals have become the TQ posterboys here & the images have the shock factor to wake up the country up.

We have had little wins lately including Gardaí refusing to use pronouns, gender neutral toilets in county Kerry being forced to offer M F & GN after parental pushback & today an age inappropriate book removed from secondary curriculum due to parental pushback.

As I said up thread this is what we need to get the ball rolling. We've learnt from our TRA "friends" that if your given an inch grab it quickly & take as many miles as possible 😊

Any updates today from the UK? it all sounded really positive this morning!

I do think though that Rishi as the father of two gorgeous clever little girls won't want it either. He has a vested interest in the future of women's rights for his girls & all the girls in the UK.

Villagetoraiseachild · 06/04/2023 17:44

So no protection of single sex spaces in any instance?
Wondering what the Countess have got planned......
Are there any TDs who are sympathetic to women?
There is one fabulous MP in the UK, the rest are mainly captured by trans/Stonewall ideology or are toeing a placatory (to trans) party line.
But the grass roots women are on the rise......

Dishwasherdisaster · 06/04/2023 17:57

I think Charlie Flanagan TD has his head screwed on all right. I think some of the others have probably been afraid to speak out, but that could of course change once they see what way the wind is blowing.

bellinisurge · 06/04/2023 17:59

The thing UK TRAs are forgetting is that the UK Equality Act always allowed single sex spaces - there's a clause about 'if it's for a good reason' - can't remember the exact wording and I think sport is one of those specified reasons.
Stonewall explicitly lobbied (and failed) to get that bit taken out.
Their "Diversity Champion " grift asked organisations to ignore it in order to get more points. This meant they got higher up the league of Champions. And nobody really paid attention to this -Be Kind etc. Stonewall had such an insidious hold that Stonewall Law (what Stonewall says and not the actual Law) became the standard.
People had started to notice this and the grift has been fading as organisations leave the scheme.
Then a recent court judgment (often called the Haldane judgement- named after the judge) said that, for every purpose "legal sex", (post GRC) is the same as biological sex. This undermines the single sex spaces allowed (if ignored) in the Equality Act. And the government couldn't ignore it anymore.

Agreed, I think he's only speaking out now that he's retired. Which I appreciate, but it shows how difficult it is. Like Sonia O'Sullivan, she doesn't have to rely on sponsorship anymore, so she has more freedom to speak out.

I think unfortunately in Ireland we are dealing with a captured government, a mainstream media who are reluctant to report anything trans critical and a general public who aren't really aware how deep this goes and what it really means for women and girls.

Like Bláthannabuí says our laws have already been changed, mostly without public awareness. People are starting to see what's happening more and more, but it's going to take a big push to roll back on our GRA and Equality legislation.
But I'm hopeful that what's happening in the UK is spurring women on to look closer at what's happening here. It's just an uphill battle really.
The only political party actually against this are Aontú which are quite conservative and a bit weird (as far as I'm concerned), against abortion etc. so not really on the side of women.
Most of the main political parties don't give a shit, although Leo is a slimy politician through and through, will go whatever way the wind blows so if there's enough pushback he is likely to be persuaded. He was previously against abortion, until the public tide turned in its favour and then he went along with it.

We have a referendum coming up at the end of the year to put 'gender equality' into our constitution, many of us are sceptical about what this means in reality. Gender is a bit meaningless anyway, so this isn't actually to protect women. But at least it will start lots of conversations about it.

Villagetoraiseachild · 06/04/2023 18:20

Understood. It was looking quite stuck here till recently....
The more conversations the better and it will build for sure.
Hopefully we will all encourage and inspire each other.

Bláthannabuí · 06/04/2023 18:47

The Gript have a video up of a huge protest from parents in Swords North Co Dublin if anyone can post the link here? Huge well done to all the parents interviewed! The pushback is huge!

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 06/04/2023 18:55

Petitions to parliament aren't a big thing here the way they are in the UK (there are no automatic responses to them). But, as I've said, we have genuinely representative democracy. This business flew under the radar for years, but it's out in the open now (partly because of Enoch Burke) and IF the upcoming referendum includes any reference to gender there will be balanced public debate.
