Gender Critical in Ireland Part 3

VaddaABeetch · 03/04/2023 13:07

I’m watching RTE news. They mentioned the Garda representatives organisation are concerned about Gender Identity in the workplace. It’s been brought in without consultation & without training.

the Garda Commissioner has said that Garda may be disciplined for misgendering.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

The UK government seem to be doing a complete u-turn.. Is it possible the same could happen here in Ireland?

ladymactíre · 05/04/2023 13:44

I'm all for sex education as I come from a time where it was a tabu subject, my mother wouldn't talk to me about this at all. We learned some in school and it was late enough, most of us were well into puberty and didn't know what the hell is happening to us. But it has to be age appropriated.
@HilarysMantelpiece it is so good and reassuring to hear this!
@Crunchingleaf i saw and listened a bit to an Australian guy, who claims to be non-binary or something of that nature. He has a moustache that would make Stalin jealous. I feel the logical side of my brain having mini-strokes just seeing him, let alone listening to him saying "transwomen are women!"

HilarysMantelpiece · 05/04/2023 13:47

Thanks @Bláthannabuí I dont listen to Liveline- its during my working day. But, lots of people do listen to it e.g. on the school collection run.
Interesting that Philip boucher Hayes wouldn't allow the lady to read it aloud...but argues for the placement of books on the library shelves.

What I want my 13 year to read is very different to what I allow my 17year old to read...same library shelf section.

RedLem0nade · 05/04/2023 14:23

I was wondering what prompted that IT article. It was clearly a response to something but was dancing coyly around what the something was.

This talk of censorship- of course we don’t want censorship but there is a line where “free speech” and “access to all the information” meets child protection. This isn’t about big bad CENSORSHIP in the same way that the film censors office isn’t- it’s about not exposing children to material that is entirely age inappropriate and that normalises sexual practices that probably should be fringe because they can be harmful (anal sex for women as the obvious example).

ladymactíre · 05/04/2023 16:50

I hope the parents don't give up until they get what they ask for

Bláthannabuí · 05/04/2023 17:28

@ladymactíre they got it! Toilets are all going to be M & F with gender neutral also. Finally some sense. This needs to be rolled out nationwide.

halfpasteleven · 05/04/2023 17:29

Fair play to those parents in Kerry..

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 05/04/2023 18:32

Such a relief to read that 😅

God knows the teenage years are hard enough without having mixed sex toilets thrown into the mix! How on earth did anyone ever think that was a good idea?

Bláthannabuí · 05/04/2023 18:38

Thinking back to my heavy periods in secondary school I wouldn't have coped in gender neutral toilets whatsoever. May Parent Power continue. Tuismitheoirí abú!

RosesInWater · 05/04/2023 18:43

So was/is the gender neutral aspect a (flawed) decision to cater for trans/non binary pupils? If so, honestly - talk about the tail wagging the dog.

Bláthannabuí · 05/04/2023 18:51

The funny thing is this a school is in the Minister for Education Norma Foley's hometown of Tralee. She obviously didn't endear herself to the local parents with her original decision given the backlash. Doubt she'll be re elected. Especially with her reformed sex curriculum including transgenderism in primary schools.

They were still having an issue with not being allowed to see the facilities, they have safety concerns regarding the way the g neutral cubicles are built and they are not happy with the gender neutral toilet being on the ground floor. That's why I said I hope they keep going. If they compromise now, a precedent will be created and it'll be taken advantage of in the future

Bláthannabuí · 06/04/2023 10:18

@ladymactíre ah crap I didn't realise that. Still though good on the parents. I'm really hoping there will be a huge turn around over here given what's going down in the UK..
I think our government are going to have to do a major u-turn on women's rights for women only.
They need to be progressive in getting rights & spaces for the transgender community that no longer infringes on our rights & spaces.
They need to reexamine the GRA.

Yeah why should girls have to go up and downstairs to pee?
We all know the neutral toilets on the ground floor will be used only by lads anyway.
Probably as a smoking room !

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 06/04/2023 11:21

Just musing over the whole GRA legislation and I'm wondering if a man gets a new birth cert and passport etc. all legal documents changed to their new name and 'gender' what is the mechanism for checking prior to this? Like if they have to complete Garda Vetting forms? What if they've had convictions or reports logged against them, do they get tagged onto their new identity? Or is it like a clean slate? I know logically it couldn't be and of course shouldn't be but given the situation I'd like to know for sure! Is there a way of finding this out does anyone know? Apologies if it's already been discussed at some stage.

Bláthannabuí · 06/04/2023 11:26

Did anyone see TV3 last night at 10pm. My mum said there was a transgender "debate" (propoganda) & a lady from the Countess was on but she wasn't given any opportunity to speak & was fobbed off by the TRA supporters..

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 06/04/2023 11:33

The PPS transfers across with the GRC. I assume everything linked to the PPS moves over too, including criminal convictions.

I may be wrong of course, but the universal application of the PPS is one of the things we have that the UK hasn't (like representative democracy).

Bláthannabuí · 06/04/2023 12:18

Thanks so much I'll watch later on. My 80 year old mother was seriously pissed off this morning. Said it was completely trans rights, had a TW on, Billy Kelliher, a GAA rep & a spokesperson from the Countess who was completely shut down from the debate. She said it was pure pro trans propoganda.

Bláthannabuí · 06/04/2023 12:19

@HilarysMantelpiece it's behind a paywall, what's the book?

ladymactíre · 06/04/2023 12:22

I'm watching now, i'm at minute 8 and I want to shout at them 😃
