I’m watching RTE news. They mentioned the Garda representatives organisation are concerned about Gender Identity in the workplace. It’s been brought in without consultation & without training.

the Garda Commissioner has said that Garda may be disciplined for misgendering.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Conincidence that this comes a couple of weeks after the Cass report & referendum when the vast majority of people are starting to recognise the damage created by the Gender Recognition Act

I doubt there is anything sinister in the timing. These things take a long time to collect and analyse.

StephanieSuperpowers · 25/04/2024 13:05

I initially thought that it was below the standards one should expect from the Irish Times to not analyse the findings as above.

Then I saw the byline photo.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 25/04/2024 13:08

From the survey compilers' point of view Cass is probably very inconvenient in that there is just a tiny outside chance that awkward questions about choice of people to survey, forced teaming, lack of a control group etc might be listened to instead of just brushed off as hatey phobia.

VoteNONO · 25/04/2024 13:13

From my (biased) point of view I would gather that they may be feeling unhappy as they have everything they want & it's still not enough🤷 everywhere you look has a rainbow flag, schools are getting lgbtq quality awards...

Maybe these people will never be happy. Also a similar study was not undertaken for non lgbtq so they really have nothing to compare it too.. So really it's a load of tosh. So sick of all the tomfoolery.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 25/04/2024 13:19

I'd love to know how much taxpayer's money, including HSE money, was spent on this when tens of thousands of children have no dentists and UCL is unable to treat people in need of care.

Does anyone else feel that the tide is turning though? I honestly really believe that the country has had enough of the trans washing.
Lbq is completely normalised at this stage but even their rainbow flag has been taken from them to include the trans & all other letters😭

MarieDeGournay · 25/04/2024 16:24

Brilliant speech by Joanna Cherry MP in the House of Commons today, which shows the lived reality of 'forced teaming' of disparate IDs.

To what looks like a practically empty chamber, an apt symbol of how little anyone really cares about non penis women.

VoteNONO · 25/04/2024 19:47

@StephanieSuperpowers the novelty have worn off, the tide has turned, now most sane people are really genuinely concerned about these kids safety so the House of Commons have hastily stopped the virtue signalling. Advocating for the castrations & mutilations of healthy breasts, penis & testicles is not a good look.. It took them how long to figure that out!

DublinFemale · 25/04/2024 22:30

@VoteNONO, I don't think it is yet.

SH is still gung ho about the hate speech. He made no attempt to shake up the ministries. They are still hell bent on riding the dissent expecting they scream bigot and transphobia enough times, it will shut people up.

We can hope SF does what it does best and bend with the wind. They might just vote against the hate speech bill, with a few dissenters in FF and enough independents.

MMcD can cause doubt in Senate , he might wake a few up in there.

DublinFemale · 25/04/2024 22:31

Hate speech bill has to go in current form before anything else can be campaigned for.

I think the local and European elections will be the turning point on the Hate Speech laws. FG are, I think, expecting a bounce following the election of a new leader. If they do well then any panic following the Referendum result will be forgotten and they will push ahead with the Hate Speech laws. Simon has already shown that he really doesn't have any desire to change the direction the party was heading in. A disastrous local and European election result for FG will be needed to force them to reevaluate this. I still don't see me voting for them though, I feel very betrayed by them as someone who would have been a FG voter in almost every election.

DublinFemale · 26/04/2024 18:16

I won't be voting for them.

The flyers are.coming thick and fast but they are in my letter box when I get up, and I'm up at 6.30

No 7 in the photo!
Aontú have committed to repealing the Gender Recognition Act, the motion was passed unanimously at their Ard Fheis this morning! This is progress & will start more debate.

Sindo article about Jacky Grainger

https://archive.ph/oivNO

"A group called the Trans Writers’ Union (TWU) subsequently called for a boycott of the newspaper, saying its allies should not “write for, pay for, nor read The Irish Times until these demands have been met”.
The two demands were that the newspaper “withdraw and apologise” for the article and that it take “practical, committed steps to adopting a trans-inclusive editorial line”.
Student unions in Trinity College Dublin, UCD and DCU passed motions supporting the boycott. In February 2022, the USI, which represents more than 300,000 students, also voted to boycott The Irish Times over the article.
The TWU and USI was asked last week if they were maintaining their boycotts, even though the “exploratory stance” to treating young people with gender dysphoria supported in the 2021 article is similar to what has been recommended by the UK’s Cass Report published last month. No response was received to the questions emailed on Friday."

‘Children unsure about their gender need time and space — I paid a big price for saying so,’ says psychotherapist

On August 9, 2021, The Irish Times published an opinion piece that led to the newspaper being boycotted by the Union of Students in Ireland (USI), individual student unions and some college newspapers, writes Mark Tighe.

Great letter. So lucidly and logically explained.

Abhannmor · 06/05/2024 09:17

Just to add - if transgenderism is a religion , it is a very harsh one. It seems to lack the concepts of redemption or forgiveness, for example. Once you have sinned you are excommunicated and there's no way back.

3timeslucky · 06/05/2024 22:42

What happened to Jacky Grainger was horrific. Doxxing, coming for her research and her career. And no regard for the value of the research to distressed kids. Those TRAS are without decency.

MarieDeGournay · 07/05/2024 08:25

"For too long, some prominent NGOs and activists in this country with little experience in the area of children, child psychology, child development or therapeutic intervention have almost exclusively informed policy in the area of sexuality and gender in law and in education."
That's exactly how TDs and Senators formulated gender legislation - under the sole guidance? instruction? of a 'prominent NGO'.

Instead of consulting people with relevant qualifications like Jacky Grainger.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 07/05/2024 09:25

Not just TDs and Senators, also RTE and most of the writers for the print media'

Genesis1v27 · 25/05/2024 17:54

The headline and focus on his relationship with someone else is unfortunate for Arthur Mathews, who would probably prefer to be talking about his new book.

This interview, from 2022, is worth reading too:

Arthur Mathews: ‘Graham Linehan is a good friend of mine, he is not a bigot. It’s a matter of free speech’

MarieDeGournay · 28/05/2024 10:27

The ESRI published the latest report on Growing Up in Ireland. It's 104 pages and I haven't read it all yet, but I heard a discussion with the lead author on Newstalk radio business report very early this morning. The interviewer and Dr Emer Smyth discussed differences between boys' and girls' experiences extensively.

But the 'marked gender differences' aren't being highlighted in the later media coverage - barely mentioned in some of it.

This extract shows that for 13-year-olds, not much has changed as far as gender stereotyping is concerned, except that now if you are a boy really into cultural activities or a girl really into science and tech, maybe you're in the 'wrong body'?😠

There are marked gender differences in young people’s lives, with girls more likely to be involved in cultural activities and reading and boys more likely to be involved in sport and hard physical exercise. Previous research suggests that these gendered patterns emerge early and in- and out-of-school settings should seek to provide all Executive summary | xii young people with access to a range of activities from their early years onwards. The findings point to a significant shift in screen time, with boys in Cohort ’98 spending longer on other (non-TV, non-gaming) screen time than girls but this pattern reversing among Cohort ’08, a pattern that merits further investigation. Gendered attitudes to subjects are also evident, with girls more positive about language-based subjects and boys more positive about Maths and Science. The widening gender gap in interest in STEM is concerning, given the policy effort in encouraging girls into STEM, and highlights the importance of inclusive curriculum and pedagogy from an early age. page x (yes, it's page x, it's in the intro.)
