Thank foook January is behind us. But now I've to resist the temptation of hot cross buns??! ah here...

honeyrider · 02/02/2023 13:03

I love hot cross buns but I'm trying to lose a bit of weight before my big holiday at the end of next month.

HilarysMantelpiece · 02/02/2023 13:42

Lads, the hot cross buns and the Creme Eggs.

My January goal to lose the Covid stone is not getting a fair chance at all.

JaneJeffer · 02/02/2023 13:45

DS1 informs me you can get a 1kg bag of mini eggs now Grin

eggandonion · 02/02/2023 15:23

I like the mini hot cross buns in marks and spencer. I will accept any hot cross bun though.
We have just opened a tub of Cadbury heroes in work, they aren't very nice. But better than nothing.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 02/02/2023 16:19

I'm giving them a wide berth. If I started eating hot cross buns this early on, I'd start to resemble one by Easter! I'm not as tempted by creme eggs.

eggandonion · 02/02/2023 17:34

Cream eggs are not nice now either. They should tamper with hot cross buns to put me off.
Some man has been charged with Natalie McNallys murder in Lurgan, he had lots of alibis. The lady in England who has vanished wholst walking her dog is equally mysterious. I pray that she is found safe and well.

LadyEloise1 · 02/02/2023 17:37

I hate cream cheese eggs and hot criss buns. I do love Easter eggs though.

No sign of @Iblinkedandiamold.
I hope you are ok.

eggandonion · 11/02/2023 17:15

Is everyone OK? Like the journalist asked Meghan, opening a can of worms.

halfpasteleven · 11/02/2023 22:14

Hope everyone is ok...

Also really hoping Nicola (missing in England) is ok..

JaneJeffer · 11/02/2023 23:25

Hi everyone. Feeling a bit virusy but hoping it goes away without turning into anything.

Also thinking of Nicola and her family Sad

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 12/02/2023 09:46

Hi everyone, we've all survived DD's mocks, thank goodness and hurray for mid-term break. I hope you're feeling okay, Jane. I'm also thinking of that lady in England and her family, God help them. It's dreadful.

maimeo · 13/02/2023 23:33

Delighted to have found this lovely Irish chat, never noticed it before while lurking quietly on Mumsnet. Are most of you living in Ireland, as I am, or just keeping the Irish connection with each other while living in UK?

JaneJeffer · 13/02/2023 23:46

Hi @maimeo we're in Ireland. What about yourself?

maimeo · 13/02/2023 23:53

Hi Jane, yes, I am too, just outside Dublin. Love Mumsnet!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/02/2023 10:10

Hi everyone, I too had wondered where iblinked is - if you're reading I hope you're ok. Hope the virus didn't take hold @JaneJeffer there are still so many illnesses around. Also a bit alarmed at the number of sudden deaths and the huge increase on previous years Shock I know of 3 people locally who died in the last month, all had been perfectly well all their lives, just seem to have had massive heart attack or something and gone. Poor Deirdre Purcell passed away suddenly too, RIP, she was such a successful woman.

Happy Valentine's Day to you all! Flowers I've yet to succumb to the hot cross buns but I'll certainly avail of the chocolates DH will no doubt produce after dinner tonight!!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/02/2023 10:11

oh and hello to @maimeo !

eggandonion · 14/02/2023 10:15

Hi @maimeo . I also think there have been more local deaths than usual, although perhaps the social distance kept older people from picking up winter ailments.
Daffodils are everywhere now, as are hot cross buns and Easter eggs.

maimeo · 14/02/2023 10:54

Hallo everyone, it's a misty damp day here but just about to head for a walk to test out leg pain which I've been having back injections for! Still no word on poor Nicola Bulley, it really is a tragic mystery, keep thinking of her poor family. DH has offered to cook dinner tonight so I'm hoping for great things! Plenty of dads and tulips in vases around me here so no need for expensive Valentines roses! Hope you all have a good day, make sure to love yourself anyway❤️

halfpasteleven · 14/02/2023 11:18

Happy valentines to all.

I wonder did @JaneJeffer's virus make its way to me as I'm bedridden these past few days!
Feeling a bit better today but still cold and achey.

My DP got me a lovely card, salted caramel chocs and a voucher for my fav shop so I'm feeling very lucky and grateful.

I've been following the Nicola Bulley case on here and it's desperate. I really feel for her family - so many unanswered questions. It's a scary thing to read about.

Going to try to sleep again for a bit now

I'm UK based Irish born , but holiday home in Ireland . This thread keeps me in touch .
I'm also alarmed at the number of sudden deaths I know of recently

I heard undertakers on the radio in the last week or two saying the number of deaths dropped in the autumn and are up now so it's probably levelling out now. DH's uncle died last Friday and his funeral was on Sunday just gone. He had a terminal illness and was 85.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/02/2023 15:42

It's certainly an interesting (possibly not the right word) phenomenon
article
so many more deaths in the UK as well Shock it really should be investigated. My mum (early 70s) is very worried, far more so than she was about covid.

JaneJeffer · 14/02/2023 15:46

Sorry @halfpasteleven 😅 my head still feels all bunged up but I haven't taken to my bed yet.

eggandonion · 14/02/2023 16:45

I like the opinion of Willie O'Dea, i bet he is a big attender of funerals. We had a couple of months 7 years ago, 2016 because it was the leap year, when we had a run of funerals of neighbours, colleagues etc.
Interesting that this is an actual statistic, not just a coincidence.
