That is indeed a lovely set-up egg 😁
Wow.* *I'm imagining how happy teenage ds would be if we had baked delicacies arriving at our door! I make my own plum pudding and mince pies. I don't do a Christmas cake but a lighter fruit cake.

eggandonion · 15/12/2023 17:14

I like dundee cake because I don't like marzipan very much. I don't understand how almonds become marzipan.
I should make a Christmas masterplan with all lists in a spreadsheet thing. Every year I rely on pages and envelopes and bits of paper.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 15/12/2023 19:32

Ooh, I must make a Dundee cake sometime!

LadyEloise1 · 17/12/2023 09:05

Just reading about the death of 16 year old Aoife Johnston who presented with bacterial meningitis and sepsis in University Hospital Limerick this time last year.
The A&E was so crowded and apparently "....an emergency department consultant was one of 2 called to come and support and the staff. One consultant obliged. The second consultant declined to attend...."

This is heartbreaking for the family to lose their beautiful daughter became the care she needed wasn't forthcoming. 🥲
And it could be any one of us.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 17/12/2023 10:12

It is heart-breaking, LadyEloise. Poor family. A friend of mine had to go to CUH earlier this month with her very sick daughter. She said it was atrocious. People were lying around anywhere. It was chaotic.

DeanElderberry · 17/12/2023 10:23

It is terrible. And not new, alas. Some people get great care in UHL, but anyone who uses it has depressing and in some cases terrifying stories. The crazy thing about Limerick is that this is the new (less than 10 years iirc) enlarged expanded emergency department. The 'centre of excellence' that justified closing down the emergency departments in Nenagh and Ennis. Those hospitals both need to be let do their full jobs, and Limerick needs a new hospital, preferably just off the motorway, linked to the new (about to be launches) bus service, and with proper provision for patient services like laundry.

Something also needs to be done about the lousy management - if hospitals in the south-east can function properly despite all the challenges, what the hell is wrong with the people running those in the south and mid west?

eggandonion · 17/12/2023 23:38

My daughter spent 24 hours in cuh with suspected appendicitis earlier in the year. A and e has individual pods in one part. Some people had been in pods for a couple of days waiting for beds on wards.
People need to be discharged to proper nursing home and convalescent care to free acute beds.
They never found out what was wrong...several scans later.

LadyEloise1 · 19/12/2023 20:20

The scum boy that killed Urantsetseg Tserendorj as she walked home from work on the Dublin Quays has had his appeal against his sentence rejected. He was looking for a more lenient sentence🙄
He didn't show any leniency to Urantsetseg or the other victims of his crimes that day - crimes committed both before and after he stabbed Urantsetseg.
He got agitated in court today when things didn't go his way.

I saw Urantsetseg's family and friends at a memorial service to her in Harrington Street Church and witnessed their quiet dignity despite their heartache and I am glad the appeal court rejected his appeal.

eggandonion · 19/12/2023 22:46

That was a really tragic event in the midst of the pandemic.
Imagine being 14 and stabbing a lovely lady when trying to steal drug money. What a waste of lives all round really.
At least her poor family have been given justice.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 31/12/2023 23:08

I liked Midge Ure. Great performance and the orchestra is fab for this song.
