I resent paying the same to post a card to England as Canada. Even a small book costs a fortune to post to my great niece in London.
I know I don't look old enough to be a great aunt.

I've got 8 great nieces and nephews though one died, 24 nieces and nephews and one of my nephew's died too. We only give presents to godchildren now as there's too many to buy for.

eggandonion · 10/12/2023 23:56

Dh can't remember what his are called. I have a small family and look after them.

Wendysfriend · 12/12/2023 15:54

Can't believe how close Christmas is now. Anyone know of a REALLY CHEAP gift I can give someone connected with dd ? She deserves nothing but unfortunately that won't go down well..

Happierwithouthim · 12/12/2023 16:35

Regift something? Christmas Teatowel!!

eggandonion · 12/12/2023 17:03

What age and how cheap?

Wendysfriend · 12/12/2023 17:09

Ooh a tea towel, might go with that.

She's late 50s as cheap as possible but doesn't look cheap 😂

Happierwithouthim · 12/12/2023 17:18

I was thinking tea towel because personally I find storing a Christmas tea towel to use only at Christmas time is a nuisance!!!

eggandonion · 12/12/2023 18:08

Punished by tea towel 😀

Even better, if I can cause her some hassle bonus points, as she stresses me out.

Happierwithouthim · 13/12/2023 09:37

I've opened a drawer in my kitchen a few times this year where there's a Christmas tea towel and it grates on me, it obviously wasn't out of laundry when I was putting away decorations last year as Christmas themed tableware is stored with the decorations & Christmas jumpers/hats etc

JaneJeffer · 13/12/2023 09:40

Jaysus I'll be giving the side eye if I get a tea towel off anyone this year 👻

eggandonion · 13/12/2023 11:24

Im in awe of people who have Christmas soft furnishings etc. They must be really organised.

JaneJeffer · 13/12/2023 11:37

I'm glad the dodgy box man was only given a suspended sentence

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 13/12/2023 14:12

What's that about the dodgybox man @JaneJeffer ?

DH & I would really like to get one but are afraid to ask around about them!!

I have a few christmassy soft furnishings - cushions, tablecloth, napkins & tea towels, hand towels. But I can't find them all and can't bear to listen to DH moaning if I ask him to get into the attic again for something I can't say exactly what part of the attic its in 🙄

The Christmas homeware in Dunnes is absolutely gorgeous. I must keep an eye out for it being reduced (so I can put it away in the attic and then not find it next year)

JaneJeffer · 13/12/2023 14:30

This is the story @LifeInAHamsterWheel www.rte.ie/news/courts/2023/1211/1421401-noel-robinson-court/

I think they've really cracked down on them now

eggandonion · 13/12/2023 15:49

I think trade in Cork is going to be brisk if people can see gaa on dodgy boxes without the pay thing.
I got a silvery white table cloth reduced in Dunnes one Christmas and use it on the rare tablecloth day. I use my santa mug all year.
I watch people buying all the Christmas stuff and wonder where it lives for 11 months.
I love magazines that advise me how to style my table on Christmas Eve. Im at work eating liqueur chocolates that day!

JaneJeffer · 13/12/2023 17:01

I like your style @eggandonion Grin

Taytocrisps · 13/12/2023 17:18

I've a few days off work and I've given my windows their six monthly wash down. Well, the kitchen and sitting room windows anyway - sure, nobody will be looking at the other ones. Tomorrow I'll buff them with a bit of Windolene and consider myself 'Bord Gais Housewife of the Year' worthy. DCats aren't impressed that I hooshed them off the armchairs and sofa and pulled them out to hoover behind them. They consider it all a bit excessive.

I got my first Christmas cards today. Must start on mine later. I've been messaging people for their new addresses. Why do people have to move house during the year - very inconvenient! I'll have to re-do some of my labels.

There's a beautiful winter sky out there - see pic.

@eggandonion I've a Nutcracker duvet cover and pillow cases. They live in the hot press and occupy the space that would contain towels if teen DD wasn't using all of the towels all at once.

I've Christmassy tea towels somewhere but I always forget to root them out in December. I usually unearth them in May or June and think, "Oh, I must remember to actually use them this Christmas.....".

Which reminds me, I also have a Christmassy tablecloth somewhere.....

I'm contemplating a fancy wooden star thing in a local florist's. My door wreath is falling apart (keeps shedding bits of moss) and has kind of a childish design anyway - it appealed to DD when she was 7 or 8. Anyway, the wooden star thing is really nice and has a few flowers tucked into it. It's €35. Will I see if it comes down in price or will it sell out? I should have taken a photo and then I could have done an AIBU.

The first four houses all have outdoor lights but I don't (No. 5 - no outdoor sockets) and none of of the others further up have either. DD reckons we're in a Mexican wave and Nos. 6, 7, 8 etc. can't put their outdoor lights out until we do.

Tayto I enjoyed your post waves!

My boss and family don't eat home made food. Especially food made in a domestic kitchen.

My boss has a friend who bakes. At Christmas he drops in all kinds of stollen and gingerbread and things.
I greedily accept them 😀but boss and I have a discussion on what they taste like. So he can say that the rum in the mincemeat was excellent.

That's some set up @eggandonion
Lucky you!
I love all the Christmas bakes.. much prefer this time of the year to Easter etc- there's way more tasty treats to enjoy!

eggandonion · 15/12/2023 08:11

I do like a hot cross bun. And nice strawberry things. Basically anything baked that I don't have to make!

LadyEloise1 · 15/12/2023 09:05

There'll be a lot of happy GAA county boards today with "The Donation".
