May he rest in peace.
His poor wife. She loved him very much
He only came out of hospital recently.

eggandonion · 30/11/2023 15:25

I was surprised he was out of hospital. He looked so ill. His wife seems lovely in interviews. What an amazing voice he had.

eggandonion · 30/11/2023 18:37

Ah those two children burned in the car is so sad. The families must be devastated. Impossible to imagine a family member doing something like that as well as imagining it happening to family members.

Wendysfriend · 30/11/2023 19:45

Hadn't realised that the court case was happening/happened. I remember that incident, those poor, poor kids, the suffering must have been horrendous.

How come it takes so long here for cases to get to court? I understand they have to gather evidence, but so does every country when there's court cases, we just seem to take so long, whatever happened about the murders of the 3 children in Tallaght ? That's over a year. Nothing seems to have happened.

eggandonion · 30/11/2023 20:37

I think there is a backlog from the pandemic. There was a case local to me from a murder in April 2022 which was finally due in court earlier this month. Following legal arguments it is now February 2024.

LadyEloise1 · 01/12/2023 08:20

Heartbreaking case.
Horrific for all involved. Sad

I read of a case today where a man raped his partner's younger sister ( 10 years of age ) and threatened to kill her if she told anyone, over a period of time and got 11 years.
Not enough in my opinion.
She has a life sentence. Angry

Nollaig shona daoibh - hope it's not too early for me to say that but it's 18 days away and I need the festive spirit to cheer me up in this godawful weather! I'd take the cold of last weekend over the slightly milder but soaking wet crap we've currently got 🙄I am very prepared this year, I've got all my shopping done (well not the foodstuff obviously but presents) now just need to wrap it all. Despite moaning about the wet, I do actually love this time of year. I can deal with the dark evenings because of the twinkly lights and I don't feel guilty for having a drink on a random Tuesday because it's Christmas Xmas Smile

JaneJeffer · 07/12/2023 13:57

Got my first Christmas card in the post today. It's currently the only Christmas decoration that's up. It was so dark yesterday, ugh. I need to try to remember to take my vitamin D.

eggandonion · 07/12/2023 15:03

We got a Christmas card too. It is a very fancy one.
Ds did work experience in ty for an mep...he got a card for years until yer man retired. It was very arty and arrived late November. We miss that card.
I was early for work and nipped into a pharmacy then to a cafe. Between pharmacy and cafe the rain stopped and sun struggled out. What odd weather.

honeyrider · 07/12/2023 21:08

I've nothing done yet, have a parcel to send to DS in Australia but need to get it weighed at the post office before sealing it and as I'm housebound thanks to DH sharing covid with me. I tested positive early Sunday morning so I'll do a test tomorrow and see if it's negative yet.

The Daily Mail haven't got their head around the offertory Grin

It was a fantastic send-off. Glen Hansard and Lisa O'Neill were brilliant.

Someone wrote on Twitter 'Brew this in memory of me' as a caption for the priest holding up the box of Barry's Tea 😅

Spelling edit

JaneJeffer · 09/12/2023 00:44

🤣 love that Fuzzy

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 09/12/2023 14:11

First Christmas card arrived today.
Better start feeling a sense of ho-ho-ho I suppose!

JaneJeffer · 09/12/2023 15:02

Lyons must be spitting feathers

Lyons must be spitting feathers

😂Yes, they must be.

Well. You can't fault Shane's good taste,
God rest his soul.

eggandonion · 10/12/2023 10:27

Is it possible to see the funeral on rte or virgin? It seems odd that bbc have it in their player.(i would happily pay a tenner a month for bbc player. We used to have vpn for my husbands work but it vanished in lockdown). We missed most of it.
We are going to have to keep explaining that most funerals aren't quite that fabulous. Along with confirmation that 3 types of potato at a wedding reception is normal. Plus chips at midnight.
I have written my Christmas cards. Now I just need a credit union loan to afford stamps.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 10/12/2023 11:00

One stamp costs 1.35e!
I think I'll be cutting back on cards.

LadyEloise1 · 10/12/2023 11:00

I emailed the BBC Director General and said I would be willing to pay a subscription to the BBC Iplayer if they introduced the facility.
The BBC were whinging about lack of money at the time.
Perfect opportunity for them to introduce my idea - I wasn't going to change them a consultancy fee 😂.
Got a generic email back to say they had no plans to do so.

eggandonion · 10/12/2023 11:10

I wonder what the reason is. Im so nice I even pay my TV licence...especially now I know Im not funding Ryan Tubridys lifestyle.
I was looking at the Wales family Christmas card. I think Princess Charlotte needs to go to the hairdresser for a good trim. The other royal children seem to have much tidier hair. I am on danger of being an interfering grandmother...

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 10/12/2023 19:32

That Twitter post was hilarious 😂 and yep I'd say Lyons were raging!

We would also happily pay a subscription to BBCiPlayer. It's such a pain not being able to watch online or catch-up. That was such a good proposal @LadyEloise1 feckers should have considered it at least!

The price of stamps has just gone ridiculous. It really is prohibitive to sending Christmas cards, which is such a shame. FYI everyone can get one free digital stamp from An Post just go to their website. The codes are 9 digits though so a bit of a pain to write out and even worse if you've only got a little envelope to write on! But it's free so I'll take it!

JaneJeffer · 10/12/2023 19:54

I think RTÉ and the Beeb should have a reciprocal arrangement where we can watch each other's programmes. I'm sure the people of Britain would be only delighted to watch Fair City and The Late Late Grin

I paid €89 to send a parcel to Australia yesterday and €45 to send one last week. I'll be sending very few Christmas cards this year.

eggandonion · 10/12/2023 21:12

I resent paying the same to post a card to England as Canada. Even a small book costs a fortune to post to my great niece in London.
I know I don't look old enough to be a great aunt.
