The 5pm was just leaked to make it look as though tue government talked nepht into 8pm for us. They must think we are all fools, so, so patrionising. Feel awful for all the businesses. And of course houses will be full all christmas and itll be rampant.

Abitlost2 · 18/12/2021 09:25

I also totally disagree that schools should be closed instead, loads of people have to work until christmas eve.
This will go on for another two years at least, what happens when its still transmitting in schools when most kids are vaccinated, what happens when there are new variants??

Abitlost2 · 18/12/2021 09:28

This will undermine the boosters which is awful, if people are vaccinated with 3 doses and still have restrictions?!!!
The focus on this is pouring money into health service not on business supports that have to close every 5 mins..

Exactly -so staged , trying to make us feel like our government "won" some extra freedom for us - utterly pathetic

We need to develop a global response to this bastard virus. Otherwise we will continue to go round in circles.

Definitely we need to invest in the health service. It should be a priority.

Other countries are imposing restrictions too; The Netherlands, Denmark and soon France, to just name three.
Iblinkedandiamold · 18/12/2021 13:57

Other countries also closed their schools early for Christmas. I don't know why we are so against it here. A lot of schools were I am are half empty anyway.
To be honest I don't really care either way. I have a great few days planned next week.

You go girl Grin

DS finished school yesterday (TY) but he's got to go to work next week so he'll still be mingling with people.

Abitlost2 · 18/12/2021 17:04

@Iblinkedandiamold schools in Ireland were closed for the longest in all of Europe. I have family in spain and france and their schools opened again in January 2021 whereas we were closed until almost easter? I am a qualified teacher and my dh and i covered the curriculum for those months and loaded it onto a platform. There was no pre recorded classes/online classes etc in our case. Education should definitley be a priority and esp for key worker children, my sister couldn't cover shifts in their hospital at times during school closures. No , it isnt childcare but obvs parents use the time kids are in school to work.

Apologies for typos. We are also now focused on having a lovely Christmas and we love this crisp, bright weather! Getting out as much as possible with the dcs. Maybe it might be a white Christmas.

Enjoy the weather and make the most of it!

It is indeed @Abitlost2 it's the little things that keep you going.
Iblinkedandiamold · 18/12/2021 18:42

I don't think they should close the schools I just thought a few days off would be nice and I wouldn't have to move the elf anymore.

halfpasteleven · 18/12/2021 20:53

Would ye go for dinner tomorrow night? We booked it weeks ago (just me and DP) for my birthday.
Tomorrow night so no 8 pm finish!
I'm trying to weigh up the pros and cons of going;
Namely I'd love a night out and a dinner handed up to me that I haven't prepared, cooked and tidied up afterwards with a toddler on my lap for the duration!
But it's a week to Christmas and the virus is now v transmissible - is it worth the risk of catching Covid and not being able to see loved ones over Christmas?
DP has "helpfully" told me it's my choice as it's for my birthday- he is easy going about it all but I just can't decide what's best..

JaneJeffer · 18/12/2021 21:02

I would go @halfpasteleven

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 18/12/2021 21:53

Yes, I would go, halfpasteleven, so long as you feel that the restaurant follows the guidelines, Covid Certs and all that. Enjoy :)

halfpasteleven · 18/12/2021 22:34

Thanks to you both so far. It's part of a five star hotel, with booths so I'm guessing it's a safe venue.

I haven't been before so that's playing on my uncertainty, DH has, but it was years ago.

I'm thinking if we are the only two at our table/booth and we wear our masks if we go to the bathroom we should be ok. We won't be mingling with anyone else except staff who will have their masks on. It won't be a late night as we are both working on Monday.
Thanks- I think posting here has helped me figure it out talk myself into going !

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 18/12/2021 22:54

It sounds good to me. I like the idea of your own booth. The next few weeks could be tough so I would go out now and enjoy it.

Well done Rachael Blackmore for winning Sportsperson of the Year. Great to see so many women nominated.

LadyEloise1 · 19/12/2021 08:18
