She sounds very creative Fuzzy. I can't believe we're into December already. I always mean to be so organised for Christmas, but I never am!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 01/12/2021 21:17

Hi Lizzie Grin yes, she was funny. She did some snowflakes on one and gave the trim on the other some candy cane stripes!
I know! December always takes me by surprise. I announced to the kids while ago that Christmas seems to come earlier every year Confused

LizzieAnt · 01/12/2021 23:13

Ah, that sounds lovely, very seasonal Smile

I think everything just starts earlier now, with advent calendars, elf on the shelf etc. I can't keep up Grin

Would any of you lovelies know of a hamper service or florist service in New York? So that I could send a gift to my cousins over there? Would it be better to deal with W company in NY or go with one in Ireland?
Never had to do this before so very clueless..
Thanks..

halfpasteleven · 02/12/2021 22:27
  • A company, not W company!
IsFuzzyBeagMise · 02/12/2021 22:36

I'd say it would be easier to go with a company based in NY, halfpasteleven if you could get a recommendation. Good luck with it!

halfpasteleven · 02/12/2021 22:51

Thanks @IsFuzzyBeagMise
It would make sense alright.. hopefully someone might have a suggestion as to who to use

We had to let two children go from service yesterday. Despite trying to work with parents for years ,having meetings, etc, behaviour got worse.
When you ate in the situation you get used to the behaviour but I recently took my emotional attachment to the children out of it. I watched how scared the younger children were how frustrated the staff were, how the parents promised to do x,y,z and then decided that it wasn't the way they wanted to do it. After years of that we decided enough was enough and let them go.
I feel like I failed these children. I have never had a child dismissed from a service but I've also never had parents so unwilling to work with us.
I throughly believe these children will be in trouble in the police in years to come if the parents don't get help for them.
If they are helped they could do wonderful things.
Just feeling sad today. Despite all the stress they caused I will miss them.

halfpasteleven · 04/12/2021 16:51

Sounds so hard @Iblinkedandiamold but I think you did your best for those children and you also have to think of and do your best for the other children on your care. And that's what you did. Always hard where children are concerned though. Just remember you did your best. Thanks

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 04/12/2021 17:03

Ah, that is so sad, Iblinked, and so frustrating for you. You were in a difficult position. You have a duty of care for every child you're looking after and you needed to look out for them too. Still, those poor kids. It sounds like they won't have an easy time of it and their parents need to have a good talking to. Hugs to you BrewCake

LadyEloise1 · 04/12/2021 17:57

That's tough @Iblinkedandiamold but you have to think of the greater good - the other children.
Some parents 🙄Sad

Anyone watching Philo on BBC1? ❤️

JaneJeffer · 04/12/2021 22:55

BBC2 actually

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 06/12/2021 13:48

Storm Barra will be a red weather warning for Cork and Kerry tomorrow.
It must be a bad one!!

JaneJeffer · 06/12/2021 14:00

“It’s coming in like a freight train on Tuesday morning,” Met Eireann forecaster Liz Walsh told Independent.ie last night.
Shock

Iblinkedandiamold · 06/12/2021 21:15

I am gutted I am in a yellow zone. Red and Orange areas have schools and childcare closing.

honeyrider · 06/12/2021 21:45

I'm in an orange zone so schools and creches are closed.

My DC were thrilled at the news! I just hope there isn't too much destruction and that we don't lose power!

halfpasteleven · 06/12/2021 22:59

Same here - will enjoy the day with the DC but will really be hoping the power stays on..
Everything is charging as I type!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 08/12/2021 09:45

How did everyone fare? We got off very lightly, no damage and no power loss. The kids loved the duvet day and I had a very quiet day at work as a lot of people didn't come in! I think the Government might look at it like a little mini circuit breaker - plus it was so nice to not have any covid news yesterday, it was all about Barra! (apologies to anyone who has suffered damage as a result)

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 08/12/2021 10:07

It was very wild in Cork all day long from 6am until about 10pm. We all stayed in and were glad to be inside. The cats were very stroppy about not being allowed out! Thankfully, there were no power cuts and one tree came down locally. Schools are closed again, so it's another quiet day. My youngest one is smothered in a cold, so I can't send her back in yet.

JaneJeffer · 08/12/2021 14:38

Still very windy here in the west. I could hear something blowing down the roof last night but it's too windy to go and see what it was. The windows are all filthy now because so much stuff blew onto them.

Iblinkedandiamold · 08/12/2021 18:57

It wasn't bad here today but last night was awful. I could sleep with the noise, my power went at about 11.30pm, I was listening to a book on Audible when it went.
I was off today so went to pick up some paint supplies. The closer I got to the town (10 mins drive) the stronger the wind became. My car was being blown.
Crazy how it can vary from town to town.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 08/12/2021 20:12

They are having a bit of a barney over there on the Coronavirus board about the new Covid Pass for entry into certain venues, where there would be large numbers of people congregating. Most people don't like it at all.

I got caught out last Sunday morning. I had to spend an hour in town and thought I would go into Marks for a coffee and an iced currant bun (it had been ages, I was looking forward to it...).
I had my Covid pass ready, but there was a sign up to say that the pass and a photo ID were required to enter the café. I didn't have any photo ID. It was very early, really quiet, only four people in ahead of me and I was hoping I would be let in with just the pass, but no. It was not meant to be. 'I'm sorry about that now', she said to me. 'So am I', said I sadly, as the vision of me sinking my teeth into a currant bun quickly faded.
I wonder how it will work out over there and if people will comply with it.
