No just had a headache the last time but it was the J&J so milder symptoms I think.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 15/12/2021 22:05

I thought the side effects of the J and J vaccine were worse than the Pfizer, going on the experiences of people I know.

JaneJeffer · 15/12/2021 22:16

With DH it made him really tired but I'm always tired so probably wouldn't have noticed Grin

honeyrider · 15/12/2021 23:45

I had the Moderna booster last week and didn't have any symptoms apart from a sore upper arm for a day or two. The first two vaccines were Pfizer and only had what felt like the start of a headache and a bit tired after the first vaccine.

Joolsin · 15/12/2021 23:56

Oh crikey, given that you had Jansen I'd be galloping down to get my booster asap, trampling old ladies, etc, etc - there's feck all immunity left of the original one shot at this stage. DS had it and I'm desperate for him to get his booster.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 16/12/2021 09:21

My friend got the Jansen and last week got the booster which I'm 99% sure was Pfizer. Anyway she had a sore arm and was exhuausted for a couple of days but that was it, totally fine otherwise and very relieved because as others have said the one shot definitely will have worn off by now! Go get it @JaneJeffer and then you'll be done and dusted well before Christmas day.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 16/12/2021 09:22

Also, we should really take a couple of Paracetamol before the jab, that really does help with any after-effects.

JaneJeffer · 16/12/2021 14:22

I'm tempted to get it on the 23rd and plead suffering from side effects to get out of making Christmas dinner Grin DH is getting his today.

LadyEloise1 · 16/12/2021 14:57

Sorry to derail the thread.
Just saw in the paper that a guy robbed almost €400 from the charity box outside a Donegal home whose owners, each year, decorate their home for Christmas and people travel to see the spectacle and donate - this year for the children's ambulance service, Bumbleance.
He was told to donate €250 to the court.
🙄🙄🙄
Why not the full €400 ?

Genius!
mrsfeatherbottom · 16/12/2021 17:38

Any feeling what the announcement tomorrow might be?

We're in Belfast and meant to be heading to the ILs in Dublin on Christmas Eve. MIL will be devastated if we can't go for the 2nd year in a row.

Iblinkedandiamold · 16/12/2021 21:23

I was hoping they'd close schools early. Covid is rampant in the school I am in. I am paranoid at this stage. If I get it,it means sitting in my house alone at Christmas, that's miserable. I am taking antigen tests regularly and I got a pcr test yesterday that was negative.
Scary thing is I know of cases where people tested positive on an antigen test and had no symptoms. Had they not done the test they'd still be in school and childcare settings and noone would know. That scares me.

I can't wait to get the booster. I am always tired too so didn't k ow if it was me or the injection last time. Grin

honeyrider · 17/12/2021 00:53

It's scary the number of people getting second doses.

Iblinkedandiamold · 17/12/2021 07:04

I don't understand the restrictions. It's going wild amid school children yet they are closing restaurants early and leaving schools open? Yet they had no problem closing them for two days over the storm? Makes no sense to me.
Also I promised my afterschoolers a day of fun on Wednesday agreeing to everything they asked because I thought we'd close..now I have to do it Grin

LadyEloise1 · 17/12/2021 08:29

If the new variant Omicron is so mild why all the fuss ?
I don't understand.
Apparently the symptoms are more like a cold.
If the vulnerable are double vaccinated and have had a booster, would getting omicron be so bad ?

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 17/12/2021 09:27

It's still a numbers game. If too many people with Covid need to be hospitalised, the healthcare system will be overwhelmed. There will be no beds for any other urgent medical care.
Also, there is a mutation in the spike protein in this variant (if not two mutations), so the vaccines we have had are less effective. The booster will bring it up again to better protection.
Omicron might be milder, it's not certain yet.

LadyEloise1 · 17/12/2021 11:20

Thank you @IsFuzzyBeagMise

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 17/12/2021 11:24

Just to add, it may not be that bad, especially if it is a milder form, @LadyEloise1

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 17/12/2021 11:26

It might be a short, sharp wave, fingers crossed.
Nobody wants to go back to the dark days of lockdown.

Abitlost2 · 17/12/2021 18:30

Omg , so many called it on newstalk today, they said the 5pm closure was leaked by government to make them look good when they announced it's 8pm instead. It won't make a blind bit of difference to the spread of omicron.... closing down stuff is the only solutionHmm How many extra icu beds have added in the last two years?

I really feel for the hospitality industry though...
People will still stay out after 8, drinking drinks they could have had in pubs and restaurants, just at house parties where nothing is controlled.. this will spread regardless of whether they close at 5 or 8..

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 17/12/2021 23:17

@halfpasteleven. I feel gutted for them. I agree with you that it's going to lead to people meeting up in uncontrolled environments such as house parties, which will be far worse for the spread of the virus.
Where were they going with the original closing time of 5pm?!
It's hard to take in, that we're in such grim times again. I'm just hoping that it will be relatively mild and won't impact on us too badly. Thinking of medical workers too and how we shouldn't take them for granted.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 17/12/2021 23:17

Yes, thanks Fuzzy it does make sense even though it's hard to hear.
I completely agree HalfPast it won't make a blind bit of difference to the spread of covid but it will be the nail in the coffin for many people's livelihoods Sad

Yes. It's hard to hear.

Way back in June, before the first jab, my GP told me that he didn't think the summer would be good, but we would have a great Christmas Confused

Another twist in the Covid tale, unfortunately.

JaneJeffer · 17/12/2021 23:44

I think the pubs should refuse to comply. It's absolutely ridiculous.
