It was his Stonewall one. It was good and I thought, very cleverly done, as it was never about trans issues as such but about Stonewall's influence as a lobby group.

Radyward · 15/11/2021 15:48

Im worn out by the BS from govt
Now antigen ok and travel decimated. You literally couldnt make it up !! They are at 6s and 7s. The govt listen to nphet so as to blame them come election can scape goat them.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 15/11/2021 16:49

Ah right, I thought maybe he done one on covid! Yes it seems to have been very well done and I'm looking forward to listening to it.

sillysmiles · 15/11/2021 16:52

I think Richard Chambers has a book out about covid...

honeyrider · 15/11/2021 22:34

Yeah he has a book out.
@LifeInAHamsterWheel ... I agree. I just listened to the Nolan podcast over the weekend.
What is this "Nolan podcast" please?!

Isn't it hard to plan what Christmas may look like? A lot of uncertainty. I feel so sorry for hospital and ICU staff in particular..

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 16/11/2021 10:10

Yea very hard to plan or know how things will be at Christmas. I feel sorry for nurses as always. Also for anyone in the hospitality industry. It's all still very uncertain. We don't have any big plans anyway, I suppose that's an age thing. But young folk who have lots of nights out and parties etc planned... I wonder will that happen.

I listened to the first 2 episodes of that Nolan podcast last night while out for my walk. I read a lot on the feminist board here so I was aware of it, but not the full details. It's very interesting. If you search Nolan Investigates Stonewall Podcasts you'll find them.

TheVeryThing · 16/11/2021 12:36

It all feels a bit depressing at the moment, hard to see where it's going. I can't help feeling that we should have been much quicker to roll out antigen tests and the vaccine boosters.
I have no social life to speak of but am tired of the finger-wagging from NPHET et al. Earlier I read a comment from Sam McConkey along the lines that we all enjoyed ourselves last Christmas but we won't be able to do that this year. No we bloody didn't!
Also can't really blame young people for going out and enjoying themselves.
Agree that the pressure on hospital staff must be huge.
I've heard good things about the Nolan podcast so must have a listen.

Iblinkedandiamold · 16/11/2021 13:37

I am gutted that my gym stopped the online clauses. I am not ready to go to the gym for classes. I would never forgive myself if I passed something on to the kids here.
I agree everything is uncertain. I am starting to wonder if I should drop Christmas presents off soon just incase. They have said they won't lock down again but I wouldn't trust that.
I must listen to that podcast too, sounds interesting.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 16/11/2021 15:23

I really don't think they'll lock down again. But I think they'll continue saying that we should all take a good look at ourselves and limit socialising and not go anywhere etc etc so that we'll end up pitted against each other. You'll be afraid to say you're going out anywhere in case you get snarky comments even though places are open for business! Now it looks like we'll be told to work from home, where possible, from Friday. But for many people it's just not possible! And for many more, unless it's an official lockdown, employers just won't do it.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 16/11/2021 18:00

It's so disheartening after the longest and harshest of lockdowns, very slow opening up, great numbers of people vaccinated, masks and vaccine passes and it's still not good enough.

sillysmiles · 16/11/2021 18:00

I would never forgive myself if I passed something on to the kids here.

Honestly, if your kids are school going age, you are more likely (imo) to catch it from them, than pass it to them.

For me, it's that (nearly) 2 years on, there has been nothing done to build capacity into the health service.

Extra staff, extra capacity. Existing staff are burnt out.
I fail to see why there couldn't have been a two pronged approach - one to lockdown vaccinate etc and the other to build resilience into our health service.

I'm of the opinion that the pandemic will never truly be over.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 16/11/2021 19:23

I agree @sillysmiles the health services were stretched as it was pre Covid and now there's a backlog, the knock on impacts of delayed treatment, people not being able to access GPs etc. It has all snowballed and now we have Covid on top. I'm not convinced closing nightclubs at midnight will fix things.

honeyrider · 16/11/2021 21:45

They must think it's a Cinderella variant that only strikes after midnight.

Isn't it? I think the vaccines weren't able to cope with the delta variant but they're not telling us that.

In my local cafe the manageress always asks to see Covid certs.
Yet she isn't vaccinated.
How do I know ?
She told me a few weeks ago.

eggandonion · 17/11/2021 18:08

Id use a different cafe if i had a choice, im very grumpy about the whole scenario.
Our nicest local cafe closed, they just operate as sandwich bar and takeaway now. The cafe was too small for social distance.

halfpasteleven · 22/11/2021 21:56

The fact that they are Having to cancel transplant operations is scary

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 22/11/2021 23:10

Yes, I fell it's all very tense at the moment and we are lacking any clear direction from government. I think NPHET have lost the people. Still wagging their fingers at us. Still refusing to acknowledge the use of antigen testing saying we're not using them right - but not actually telling how to use them right!! Still insisting there's no transmission in schools. That personal responsibility is the order of the day now and the only thing that's going to get us out of this mess. Yet large gatherings matches etc are allowed where masks and covid certs are not enforced. I don't see another lockdown coming, but I feel that they've decided to just let it rip and when it all goes to shit they'll blame the general public for their lack of responsibility.

honeyrider · 23/11/2021 01:03

I agree NPHET have lost support from the public. I cannot see people accepting a full lockdown again. That ship has sailed. However with the rising numbers a lot of people are cutting back socialising big time.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 25/11/2021 10:21

So how are we all doing? Looking forward to the Late Late Toy Show?! (I most certainly am Smile)

I have to say I'm in favour of the suggestion for primary school children wearing masks. It's been happening in other countries for a long time now and they do get used to it. I understand there might be problems for some children, but surely if the majority can wear them then it's bound to make a difference? My primary school DC wears a mask if we're out shopping etc even though they don't have to, and I see lots of other kids wearing them too. We have to do something to get a better handle on this and it absolutely is being spread in schools, despite what the Government are saying Hmm

Radyward · 25/11/2021 10:49

I am totally against kids in masks when 93% vaxxed. They are totally dehumanising and unless ffp3 offer no protection except add to the false security theatre

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 25/11/2021 12:00

I'm not sure Radyward I've not heard of a single case in my other DC class in secondary school and they are all wearing masks so I do believe that they offer some protection.
