In thus terrible pandemic. Its all shoulders to the mast to alleviate the crisis whether it be health staff. Public servant staff etc etc and it is a crisis for childrens schooling. They are being sacrificed with not aword or credence given to workers unlikee the uk. Essential workers kids, vulnerable kids. ans SEN are all in school.

Result = the highest death rates in the world.

AnnieJ1985 · 21/01/2021 22:02

Just stopping by to say, there's the start of a wee stretch in the evening.

Pastasau · 21/01/2021 22:17

Northern Ireland's lockdown extended to March 5th...doesnt bode well for us in the south. Are schools in Northern Ireland closed until March 5th also?

Iblinkedandiamold · 21/01/2021 23:09

At least they got a date, we get a likely to be extended. Mind you I dont listen to the news anymore so it could've been updated since then.
I'm just waiting to hear about schools and ECCE.

Radyward · 21/01/2021 23:32

Stopped listening to the news as it just causes #self hysteria. All i know is I just cant live like this for months on end!

The govt. Appointed advisers consisting of psychologists and sociologists must be on millions . This is not living for anyone including poor kids . People with business loans must be at a very low ebb now just awful

eggandonion · 21/01/2021 23:55

It had a sort of spring is on the way vibe today, weather and light wise.

Tony is back at it with the doom and gloom. I can't wait for the day we never have to hear from him again.

Iloveknockknockjokes · 22/01/2021 00:11

Laughing at the traybake thing. I moved north a few years ago and now make traybakes for work regularly with my protestant MIL recipes

mathanxiety · 22/01/2021 06:12

The govt. Appointed advisers consisting of psychologists and sociologists must be on millions .

Seriously?

mathanxiety · 22/01/2021 06:14

I baked a traybake two days ago with no protestant connections at all.

I discovered that I can toast unsweetened coconut flakes in the microwave.

OwlLovesTea · 22/01/2021 07:27

Im c of i. My kids wont eat my tray bake efforts.

I only found out (from marian keyes!) about this tray baking !

OwlLovesTea · 22/01/2021 07:31

@mathanxiety

Seriously?

At the top of their scale about 60? If they are a tech grade /HEO equiv.

Most newly recruited psychologists will go on to step 1, about 12k less.

Im a cs so well up on who is paid what 😂🙈 not in a nosy way. The salary scales are public.

LadyEloise · 22/01/2021 08:20

What is a cs ? OwlLovesTea

Radyward · 22/01/2021 08:52

Sorry what about special advisors drafted in ?I doubt advisors to the Govt. always stick to HSE guidelines on salary.
We are just living. Nightmare which is never ending. Not much on the vaccine roll out at all !!!

thelegohooverer · 22/01/2021 08:55

@mathanxiety that’s a game changer!

Emeraldshamrock · 22/01/2021 08:58

It hasn't been part of the Irish government's response to date, in relation to schools
Both of my DC schools keep windows open they advised to dig out or invest in thermal base layers in September.
I can't see schools opening until March it might change for SN and key workers only I think we'll be following NI with dates this time.

CherryValanc · 22/01/2021 09:01

Makes sense for us to work at the same dates as NI. It would have been the sensible thing from the start!

eggandonion · 22/01/2021 09:30

Back when the hse had a full on recruitment embargo, it didn't seem to extend to using consultancy firms. Or agency staff.
The people who do the work get paid a normal salary, the companies charge the earth.
The news was horrific this morning, I'm torn between listening in case there is good news, or avoiding.

Well I have to say Brixit and the delivery complications is having a positive effect on my c/c. No where is delivering to Ireland or if they are there is added taxes.
On the downside I cant get my nephew the birthday present I had planned. I got my other nephews a name superhero plaque with a little quote I put on it myself. I thought it would be nice to get my newest nephew the same one for his birthday. Ah well.

Emeraldshamrock · 22/01/2021 11:46

It is an absolute disaster hauliers queuing, incorrect paperwork, Iceland and M&S have no stock. I order a dinner set 4 weeks ago from littlewoods.
DP works in electrical retail there is no tech stock coming in either.
I closed my Amazon prime account.
I imagine all the small businesses on Ebay and Amazon will suffer badly it is a shit show.

LadyEloise · 22/01/2021 12:18

What about the guy who got a big new job with much increased salary exceeding guidelines afaik, in the news lately, who was on some committee that advise/ sets pay for civil servants.
SadAngry
You couldn't make it up.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 22/01/2021 12:21

Snap! My bank account activity has dwindled considerably since last month!! I also cancelled my Amazon Prime subscription. For now it's just a bit odd, I don't really have anything to buy, nowhere to go to need new clothes etc. but I think I'll really feel it come Autumn when I'd usually start Christmas shopping... maybe it will all be sorted out by then?

It's so cold today but no snow. I usually hate it, but I feel that snow would be a very welcome distraction for us all right now. It doesn't feel like a Friday, just groundhog day here but I will be going to Lidl later and treating myself to wine so that's something to look forward to!

Iblinkedandiamold · 22/01/2021 20:21

Okay forget my last post, I just bought an office chair, do I need it? Not really but I still bought it. Grin

mathanxiety · 22/01/2021 21:50

@thelegohooverer do a little experimenting until you find out how long it takes, and stir it as you go along. I used 15 second increments. You can use the microwave for sweetened flakes too, apparently, but I haven't done this. I imagine the sugar content would make it burn faster?

halfpasteleven · 22/01/2021 22:07

@LadyEloise

I'm guessing civil servant?

The news on the uk variant having higher mortality rates is worrying..
