Unlinked because I can't remember how to do it, and can't find Help thing.

@Iblinkedandiamold

I'm starting an online Irish Class soon. Have to do something.
Can I ask who or what is offering the class? I just signed up for something online about using Irish more at home to engage children, but DH’s level is pretty much ‘An bhfuil cead agam dul amach?’
SionnachRua · 17/01/2021 13:46

Even just sticking on TG4 or RnaG in the background would probably be a real help with those classes. It'll have the language on your ear a bit.

I picked up a few new penpals so that will keep me busy this afternoon! Though that means more people to talk to about all the nothing I'm doing atm Grin

Iblinkedandiamold · 17/01/2021 13:54

I am doing them through Oideas Gael. They do Gealtacht for Adults. They are expensive though. 160 euro for a course but it's once a week until March I think.

M0rT · 17/01/2021 17:53

De-lurking to say I have shelves in my hot press and they are not all they are cracked up to be.
The lower level is good for towels, top tip roll and stack rather than fold doesn't disturb the pile like taking out folded ones.
But I have emptied the top shelf as I need a stepladder to reach it!

anomletteandaglassofwine · 17/01/2021 18:26

Some of you are probably too young to enjoy this but dd found Top of The Pops reviews of the year on YouTube. It's like reeling in the years without the news! Brilliant nostalgia if you were into music as a teenager. We're up to 1990, going to have to start rationing them out at this stage.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 17/01/2021 20:41

My brother sent these on to me, anomeletteandaglassofwine, earlier in the year and they are pure escapism!

eggandonion · 17/01/2021 21:06

I refuse to listen to anyone whose hot press issues disrupt my dream airing cupboard. We did a massive clear out a couple of years ago. Then dd2 got stuck here in lockdown, most of her clothes were elsewhere. Luckily dd1 had left 6 bags of charity shop stuff, so that was pressed into service.
Dd2 spent half a year in strange outfits. Then got her own clothes. The hot press is stuffed again, charity shops closed, no car boots. Argh.
Do we think special classes and schools will reopen any time soon? I'm not convinced.

I hope that they don't reopen tbh, though I know some families are finding things hard right now. Been on three INTO Zoom calls today and the fury of the members is something to behold. We all knew the leadership were only interested in cuddling up to power but they've really read the room wrong here.

Iblinkedandiamold · 17/01/2021 21:20

My DS has blocked me. I am still upset but slowly getting over it. At least I'm not crying as much anyway.
DS' conversation with his child in the future.
"Why do not see your family Daddy"
"I cut them off."
"Why?"
"Well during the pandemic the government introduced strict lock down rules and they wouldn't come to your birthday incase they killed someone"
"Daddy, you're a fucken idiot".

On a lighter note I watched death to 2020 ages mins ago. It's really good, so funny.

Joolsin · 17/01/2021 23:14
@Joolsin have you thought about selling or giving away for free on adverts? Harder at the mo with the 5km rule but you might shift a few bits and maybe make a few euro.
Aw, thanks, @Pogmaasal, I did think of it, but most of the stuff is small so not worth the faff. Anyway, we usually put car boot profits towards that year's holiday (hollow laugh!), so not going to miss the money if we just give it all to charity shops, whenever they open again.

SionnachRua · 17/01/2021 23:16

@Iblinkedandiamold I'm really sorry to hear that. You shouldn't be punished for doing the right thing Flowers

LizzieAnt · 17/01/2021 23:40

I'm very sorry to hear that too @IblinkedandIamold. Look after yourself Flowers

mathanxiety · 17/01/2021 23:49

Wrt phone calls - my mum has been talking about putting the family home on the market for twenty years but has suddenly got ants in her pants about it - she does nothing but clean it thanks to the lockdown and I would guess the walls are starting to close in on her - so every week my sister and I spend about an hour each talking her out of summoning an estate agent to give an estimate.

I'm absolutely furious about the master of the Combe having tow of his kids vaccinated with 'spare'' vaccine' - what a kick in the teeth to frontline workers

CherryValanc · 18/01/2021 10:59

Why are you furious?

Would it have been better to have discarded them and not have vaccinated 16 people who were able to be present and received it at the time?

His two children are reported to have direct engagement with patients

eggandonion · 18/01/2021 11:11

I think the usual practice is that hospital staff are vaccinated, followed by a waiting list of people like community physios, opticians etc.
I'm interested to know why family members have contact with patients? Are they medical students, hospital radio or what?

@mathanxiety, my husband has a reverse problem. Two elderly relatives, each alone in big homes, refusing to move to somewhere more sensible. And having multiple people picking up laundry, delivering soup, doing shopping.

OP posts:
CherryValanc · 18/01/2021 11:20

The Coombe had 120 extra doses made up than predicted - 104 frontline staff were contacted and vaccinated out of those.

Sixteen doses remained - and as no other front line staff could make themselves present in the timescale allowed. The vaccine has a very short shelf life once made up.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 18/01/2021 12:15

@CherryValanc put like that, it's hard to get worked up about it. Seems like they made a decision to use it rather than let it go to waste, which is fine by me.

It doesn't feel like a Monday does it? Every day is starting to feel the same now. I long for springtime or even just for January to be over.

SionnachRua · 18/01/2021 12:17

It is Blue Monday after all! I feel you on wanting January to be over. It's a long month at the best of times but this is painful.

Iblinkedandiamold · 18/01/2021 12:49

I just made a plan of savings and spending so I cam pay off my credit card. I have a strict spending plan, the exact amount I can spend a week so I have money for summer and credit card paid off by April.
Let's see if I can stick it to it now. GrinGrin

Carriemac · 18/01/2021 13:00

They knew through the day they were going to have excess, they could have vaccinated eg parents of children in NICU , contacted local Garda stations or fire stations , local GP reports being called in to use up the vaccines that day but not allowed send the practice nurses - all so the masters children, one who works part time in his private practice, could get the vaccine . So corrupt

eggandonion · 18/01/2021 13:01

I know Monday, Wednesday and Friday because coronation street is on. Tuesday is bin day. Thursday, nothing happens. Sunday I get the Sunday paper.
Saturday, nothing. I wonder if there will be rugby, it's often on Saturday.

I'm going to try and force myself to do some yoga now. I was all set to go back to obair amarach, and they won't let me. I have to fill in a 72 hour form Confused even though I haven't been on holiday and I'm at less risk than I ever have been because I haven't been on public transport the last three weeks. I just used up my holiday. The bureaucracy is hurting my head. I won't lose three days' pay but I cannot believe the ridiculousness of it.

my son won't log in. He just won't.. I'm a single parent, he's a half a foot taller than I am, I told him to log in to lessons, he said ''not going to happen''. I'm going to try and not worry about his future if he's not worrying about it.

I want him back at school :-( Not getting shouty about it. Who would I shout at!? A virus? The dept of Education? But I am frustrated.
