This gave me a laugh.

That's very funny.

Well said, Hugo.

OwlLovesTea · 18/01/2021 15:23

Ha ha!

On the btightside, he lives in Dalkey!

Iblinkedandiamold · 18/01/2021 16:33

@JaneJeffer that is brilliant.

mathanxiety · 18/01/2021 20:28

CarrieMac I'm inclined to agree. Hoping they asked staff like janitors, etc., if they would like a go before offering it to the well-connected.

Iblinkedandiamold · 18/01/2021 20:39

Cobra kai is making me feel old.

CherryValanc · 19/01/2021 10:03

You can assume the other 104 did. Otherwise these numbers would be included in the 16 that didn't.

It seems to really bothered people his children were included, despite the fact they have contact with patients.

I honest don't get the outrage. Genuinely, would you prefer them to have binned just to prevent well connected people getting them?

eggandonion · 19/01/2021 10:13

Are there really volunteers in hospital just now? The children aren't staff, why have they patient contact?

choli · 19/01/2021 10:43

so every week my sister and I spend about an hour each talking her out of summoning an estate agent to give an estimate.
I don't get it. Why don't you want your mother to sell her own house?

LadyEloise · 19/01/2021 11:09

So not just at the Coombe hospital but the Rotunda too and apparently construction workers at a Kerry hospital, NON FRONTLINE staff got the vaccine Sad

Having come from paying my respects standing outside, very socially distanced, as the funeral cortège of a friend's mother's hearse arrived at a church, the death as a result of Covid19, I was not angry or surprised at the news. Just sad. Same 'ol same 'ol.
Nothing changes here in Ireland.
It's who you know that's important.
Not the heroic work some are doing at great risk to themselves.

As my long dead grandmother used to say "There'll be pull ( favouritism ) in hell !"

Listening to Paul Reid on the radio managing to avoid answering pertinent questions from Claire Byrne. Sad

eggandonion · 19/01/2021 11:34

I was wondering if the construction workers are on site rejigging certain wards for covid use?

I work in a large hospital in the uk, staff vaccinations going 7 days a week 11 hours a day. there is a staff short notice list - if you can get there within 30 minutes you will be added on, and you can add family members / neighbours over 80 ONLY if you can bring them in.
my friend who is vaccinating there says it works well, its obvious during the day if they are going have left over so two hours from the end they start texting people. also accompanying careers are offered a vaccine if there is spare - as per government guidelines
it would be a disciplinary offence to bring in a family member not in the over 80 category.

With regards to the coombe, one child helps out in his private practice and the other has 'volunteered' in the hospital. volunteering is not allowed during covid so patently an excuse.

my parents in their eighties in Ireland meanwhile are waiting for their call up -

halfpasteleven · 19/01/2021 14:45

I wonder if it will be a "disciplinary offence" over here now ?
So maddening that this has happened and an apology seems to cover it. No fear of any disciplinary action being taken. It seems so unfair.

Iblinkedandiamold · 19/01/2021 14:54

I see special schools might not open as it's unsafe for them. Why is it safe for childcare so? Very infuriating, either working with children is safe or not. If it's not then close all, if it's safe then open.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 19/01/2021 15:41

@Iblinkedandiamold that's it exactly, how can the same set of circumstances be safe with one group of children but not another?? It's very unclear and the government really need to step up here and be decisive. Feck sake it's literally 2 days away! Imagine if we had Jacinda Ardern in charge, she'd have had it sorted weeks ago. Clearly Norma Foley can't make a decision so someone higher up needs to step in and just decided. And then announce. Not all this toing and froing and leaking...

JaneJeffer · 19/01/2021 15:50

It may be more to do with the fact that up to 400 SNA's are in the high risk category.

SionnachRua · 19/01/2021 16:05

Unsurprised. I'm furious with the INTO for trying to force Forsa into making the politically unpopular decision here. Such a joke of a union. They forget who pays them to be represented - it's the members, not parents or the Government.

The whole thing is very unfair on parents and staff.

Pastasau · 19/01/2021 19:08

Has there been any developments with the special schools? There hasn't been much on the news this evening

Radyward · 19/01/2021 19:44

I have zero time for teachers claimimg schools unsafe- how about nurses opting out now ?? Or tesco or lidl workers ? If they feel unsafe, fine,go on the PUP then and see how long they remain unsafe . Kids are now the sacrificial lambs . How was December ok to be in school?? Once levels
are at Decemberlevels.all back to school
We are 2 essential workers who are now expected to be Teachers TG our 3 kids fly through the work. School isint all about doing school work but socialiasation and kids just only needing home work is not the answer!!

SionnachRua · 19/01/2021 19:47

The unions are meeting with Government tonight. It's quite funny watching John Boyle have to row back on his language and actually acknowledge the mood of the union. He thought it was all sewn up.
LizzieAnt · 19/01/2021 20:04

Many teachers are working extremely hard to support their students remotely though. I, for one, am very glad they're doing this, as there is no way I'd sent my kids to school at the moment with the numbers as they are.

I do feel very much for parents who need respite though. I think staff in special schools should be vaccinated asap.

I've never believed schools to be a safe environment for teachers/SNAs to be honest. I've personally seen how numbers are reported in schools. Children I know were not listed as probable sources of infection though they should have been (too late when test and trace caught up). So I don't believe we know the true picture in schools. It's just that younger children haven't been badly affected, at least so far. Teachers, SNAs and extended family members are much more vulnerable to Covid.

M0rT · 19/01/2021 20:43

@eggandonion sorry to crush your airing cupboard dreams!
If your taller than the average 12 year old it will probably be fine for you.
Last lockdown I got those leaflets for clothes collection at the door, so maybe you'll get one soon and have space to start remodeling your hot press Smile

eggandonion · 19/01/2021 20:43

I'm non essential retail. I really liked click and collect in November, and support local seemed to work well. December was busy, but people did wear masks and stick to restricted numbers (except family groups who I'd have liked to yell at).
I'm hating the PUP, I'd rather be in work a bit, doing some click and collect and online. Realistically I don't think I'd like a fully open shop. So I sympathise with teachers, snas etc.

I couldn't disagree more, @Radyward.

Teachers would be trying to make a notoriously non-compliant population adhere to social distancing and other safe practices for many hours a day, confined inside buildings not designed for social distancing and not equipped for the proper ventilation required when long hours are spent in the same indoor space with the same group. There is no comparison at all with nurses, HCPs, or supermarket workers.

There is none of that 'all important' socialisation possible in classrooms that are truly safe. None.

Classrooms where I live in schools that have opened up feature kids from 5 up sitting at individual desks, six feet apart, facing forward, with the teacher sitting at a desk up front, everyone wearing masks and face shields. Lunchtime involves kids eating lunch outdoors regardless of the weather, and standing six feet apart doing calisthenics.

mathanxiety · 19/01/2021 21:08

@choli

For a lot of reasons.

Mainly because she won't get as much for it now as she would if she waited about 12 months.

Plus she would need a huge amount of help/people in the house to get her belongings sorted and packed. This includes a huge amount of support from my Dsis who lives in the same city. Dsis is home schooling DCs and working from home and has had covid, still suffering serious after effects.

Mum has been sitting on this idea for twenty years but has only been serious about it since she has had to spend so many hours indoors.

She never pays attention to anything to do with national finances or the drift of the economy/ house prices. It's all gobbledygook to her.

Financial decisions that she makes are based on how she feels, not whether the decision is sensible. She has an idea that the house will be blown down in the next big storm, but it's in great nick and always has been, very solidly built in the mid 60s, solid walls, newish electrical wiring, plumbing in top shape, roof ditto.

She has difficulty imagining the difference between 400k and 600k in terms of what she can afford to move into and how much she might have left over - anything over 20k is basically Monopoly money to her. She is penny wise and pound foolish.
