Coronavirus in Ireland/N Ireland

beanaseireann · 27/02/2020 19:56

The first case of Coronavirus has been confirmed in Northern Ireland.
A passenger travelled from Italy to the North via Dublin.
I don't know how we will cope in the Republic if we have large numbers ill with the virus as our health service is already at breaking point.

Oh God can you imagine? An anti Leo bigmouth realises who they are speaking to, floodgates open!

JaneJeffer · 06/04/2020 16:55

Is anyone watching Terry Prone? Fucking hell, she didn't even know where her hoover was kept until now Hmm

eggandonion · 06/04/2020 17:30

I know where mine is supposed to be kept, but it sort of hangs around the last place I used it. The bcg thing seems to have some statistical significance, dh has been reading me something from today's Irish Times.

Iblinkedandiamold · 06/04/2020 18:06

@@eggandonion, mine dies that too, I keep telling Henry to go to the hot press when we are finished but he just doesn't listen.
Oh God, some guy has just flown past my house on a bike with a young child sitting on the bike with him. Child in front. At least the child had a helmet but it put the heart across me.
I live on a hill.

Zantedeschia · 06/04/2020 21:28

Do you think he'll use a pseudonym when taking calls? Grin

7Days · 06/04/2020 21:30

Everyone will be like, Mario Rosenstock, is that you??Grin

LadyEloise · 07/04/2020 09:55

Oh my word Boris is in ICU.

LightACandleHoney · 07/04/2020 10:06

But don’t worry @LadyEloise - Trump has spoken to “all Boris’ doctors” and has spoken to two “genius companies” who also have offices in London and they are helping out, so Boris will be fine because those amazing Americans are on the case Hmm

Iblinkedandiamold · 07/04/2020 10:25

@LightACandleHoney that's so good to hear. Where would we be with the Americans. Grin

eggandonion · 07/04/2020 12:03

I wonder if the doctors and nurses minding Boris are Irish? If so they will be on with Sean O'Rourke and the Late Late.
I hope he is OK, I know he is a bit of an eejit but he has made me laugh a few times. His poor fiancee.

Zantedeschia · 07/04/2020 15:09

Anyone see The Irish Times? "Peak resource use of hospital and ICU beds passed on April 4th, while peak daily deaths passed on April 6th"

Is this for real? That was be fantastic if we have already peaked (not for those already bereaved/v sick obviously). And lots of challenges still to come....but still fantastic.

eggandonion · 07/04/2020 15:10

The residential care nursing home stats are currently very bad though.

MayFayner · 07/04/2020 15:21

Zantedeschia it says the study is based on an assumption that social distancing remains in place until August.

I wonder does that mean the current levels? 🤔

chartreuse · 07/04/2020 15:49

I can't link from the app, but if this is close to the truth then we are coming out of this very lightly. Look at the numbers for Spain, Italy and France, and then the U.K. God, there are no words really, it's horrific

Coronavirus in Ireland/N Ireland
Inniu · 07/04/2020 15:52

It gives the U.K. to be the worst in the world per head of population. The US would have more cases but obviously has a much bigger population.

Why would the U.K. be the worst hit?

Zantedeschia · 07/04/2020 16:45

Well the PM boasting about shaking hands with corona patients wasn't the bestHmm

Leo was taking this so seriously from the very start.

But lots of variables obviously. Cities worst hit. We are rural with zero public transport, common enough in Ireland. Early lock down? BCG vaccine? Genes?

Zantedeschia · 07/04/2020 16:46

Got an email from the primary school re setting kids for distance learning so I don't think they'll be back to school for a while

Iblinkedandiamold · 07/04/2020 17:17

The good news that the taoiseach has cleared the Easter bunny for travel within Ireland so Easter eggs will be delivered. I was getting worried that he wouldnt be allowed. Phew. Wink

ManorMouse · 07/04/2020 17:49

I acted unilaterally and stocked up on chocolate bars in Aldi yesterday. It'll save the Easter Bunny a trip at least.

eggandonion · 07/04/2020 18:05

36 deaths is a lot today, poor families.

ArlenesWoodBurningStove · 07/04/2020 18:09

In that article the gap between peak use of UK bed resources and deaths is only 3 days. I thought the gap would be bigger.

ArlenesWoodBurningStove · 07/04/2020 18:10

The UK press conference today said that the peak seems to be flattening, so hopefully the UK death toll prediction in the article isn’t right.

Dk20 · 07/04/2020 18:27

We've been set up for distance learning from the school and finding it very good. Originally we were just using the ixl app and his teacher could see the progress. Then last week they set up Google classroom and they can assign tasks for the class for the week, then you can send back responses/files/pictures etc.
We've only had 1 week of it so far but found it good, at least I have structure now and know what ds should be trying to learn.

LadyEloise · 07/04/2020 19:15

Just seen an Irish company called Avalon, no me neither, has donated a load of PPE to the HSE. They flew it in from China.

Apparently tax exiles, Mc Manus, O' Brien, Desmond and their ilk have been given by the Revenue extra days to stay in Ireland if they've had to overstay the number of days they're allowed because of the Coronavirus. I don't know which tax exiles are here and which ones are abroad.

They make my blood boil.
