The first case of Coronavirus has been confirmed in Northern Ireland.
A passenger travelled from Italy to the North via Dublin.
I don't know how we will cope in the Republic if we have large numbers ill with the virus as our health service is already at breaking point.

The weather is awful here, means we wont be able to get into the garden or go for a walk. Its gonna be a long day Sad

Iblinkedandiamold · 05/04/2020 11:30

Not great here either @dk20 windy and rainy. Might chance a run later.

Iblinkedandiamold · 05/04/2020 11:59

Paddy Joe from Roscommon is all over the papers and all over Facebook still. Go 82 year old Paddy Joe. Maybe he should get a t-shirt "I survived Covid 19" Grin
Great good news story.

LadyEloise · 05/04/2020 14:19

Gorgeous here in Dublin, sunny but windy. Rain is on its way so I'll go for a walk now while i can.

Iblinkedandiamold · 05/04/2020 14:49

Got out for a 5k run, while staying 2k from the house. Windy and dull but not raining yet anyway. Is this life now, talking about the weather. Grin

Dk20 · 05/04/2020 15:17

I'm in Munster, we've had heavy rain since about nine this morning. Cant being the kids out, even for a walk they'd end up wet and sick.
So if the rain hasn't hit anyone yet get out while you can!
Does anyone know any Irish suppliers where I can buy paper and paint online? We've ran out and so have Tesco Smile

DuchessDumbarton · 05/04/2020 16:25

Does anyone know what the story is with getting the sacrament of the sick/ last rites? I don’t want to ask on the main forum for fear of being ripped to shreds but I know this is something that will matter hugely to some of my relatives. I don’t think they’re letting priests in to hospitals at all, from what I’ve heard. Can it be done remotely, by Skype, like watching mass on tv? I’ve no clue.

LadyEloise · 05/04/2020 17:42

Usually there is a chaplain attached to a hospital. The main switchboard of the hospital should have their number and you can contact them.

Inniu · 05/04/2020 18:32

I see Leo is back to doctoring. So glad we have our lot not Johnson or Trump.

Deadringer · 05/04/2020 18:59

Inniu its amazing isn't it, talk about stepping up to the plate. Wow.

LadyEloise · 05/04/2020 19:03

Inniu where did you see that re Leo ?

Deadringer · 05/04/2020 19:11

I saw it in an irish times article LadyEloise.

LadyEloise · 05/04/2020 19:24

Thank you Deadringer.

A relative of mine, a medic, working in a hospital was tested 10 days ago for Covid19.
She's back to work tomorrow and hasn't got the results of the test. Can that actually happen ?????

Zantedeschia · 05/04/2020 19:31

Its 14 days after first symptoms and at least the last 5 days should be no temperature. So I'd say so.

Or 7 days if UK.

Zantedeschia · 05/04/2020 21:19

Me too, @Inniu , me too.

Population of New York: 8.6 Number of DEATHS: 4,159

Population of ROI: 4.83 Number of CASES: 4,994

JaneJeffer · 05/04/2020 21:32

DK20 try schoolbooks.ie

Barbararara · 05/04/2020 22:33

@LadyEloise thanks for that.

Fair play to Leo but I wonder if herecognises the value of his own contribution to the crisis so far. I can understand why he’d want to pitch in, particularly given his family, but his calm, decisive measured leadership is making a massive difference for everyone.

A lot of the school book publishers have made their ebooks and resources available, if that’s any use to anyone. Mine were happily playing “pléasc an balún” the other day to get around my no screens diktat (they know I’ll only let them have the iPads if it’s for something sufficiently educational Wink) I know screen addiction is a real thing when ds is willingly doing gaeilge to get a fix!

honeyrider · 05/04/2020 23:57

I think Leo's only doing one session per week.

LadyEloise · 06/04/2020 08:15

I suppose he'll be kept busy enough running the country. Smile

JaneJeffer · 06/04/2020 10:44

Imagine being in hospital and Leo turning up at your bedside. I'd probably think I was hallucinating!

eggandonion · 06/04/2020 10:50

Talking to him on a helpline would be weird enough.
