Coronavirus in Ireland/N Ireland

beanaseireann · 27/02/2020 19:56

The first case of Coronavirus has been confirmed in Northern Ireland.
A passenger travelled from Italy to the North via Dublin.
I don't know how we will cope in the Republic if we have large numbers ill with the virus as our health service is already at breaking point.

I hope they are financing some of the medical supply efforts. Great of RTE to have a Corona magazine programme!

I hate that utter shower.

Maybe they will step up. A mate of mine works for one of them in hospitality. He is a stingy bastard to work for despite drinking only finest glenfidditch and the like himself.

Inniu · 07/04/2020 19:53

I think the tax residency thing is more for regular tax payers than rich ones. DH travelled a huge amount in previous job but had to track days to avoid becoming tax resident in the U.K. because he would have had to start filing tax returns there.

eggandonion · 07/04/2020 20:12

We had an academic year like that, which was easier than a calendar year, we had a heap of boarding cards to prove travel. Sadly we aren't seriously rich.

LadyEloise · 07/04/2020 20:17

@Inniu
It's definitely for the high flyers too.

Lipz · 08/04/2020 13:59

I really wish we could report here in the Republic. Ndn yesterday had 12 people including children in back garden. Today it's a bbq, they are all in shorts, bikini tops, and have the bbq going and so much drink, I've counted 20 people, that's what I can see. The noise is unbearable, their lack of flowing rules is making me want to say something but I won't.

Carrie76 · 08/04/2020 14:33

@lipz would you not ring the guards and tell them? Would it be really obvious it was you?

eggandonion · 08/04/2020 14:49

I'd call the guards, ask for the community guard and have a quiet word? We used to have a set of neighbours who liked to party, I'd certainly speak to someone if that was going on.

Lipz · 08/04/2020 14:54

Do you think they'd do something if I rang? I'm so tempted. It would be obvious it's me but tbh I don't care now. I'm feeling really angry and this isn't like me. I just keep saying it's not fair, we're keeping in and following rules, I can't even sit in my back garden cos they have high decking and you can see all their heads and the noise is SO loud, the music is also blasting. It's like a normal sunny day for them, they've been breaking the rules since the beginning. They really don't care.

7Days · 08/04/2020 14:58

Ring the guards Lipz, they are being blatant.

Iblinkedandiamold · 08/04/2020 15:02

I would report too. That's awful and I would be so angry over it.

eggandonion · 08/04/2020 15:03

Call them and ask them to walk past - are you in a street as opposed to a country lane?

Lipz · 08/04/2020 15:06

I rang. They took the details and they confirmed that large gatherings were not permitted. The guard said he'll do his best to send someone down. Glad I rang now. Feel like a snitch but on a normal day I'd not give it a second thought.
Thanks all

Iblinkedandiamold · 08/04/2020 16:29

Just read a quote from Simon Harris asking people to tell the Gardaí of anyone breaks the lockdown rules so you did the right thing @Lipz

eggandonion · 08/04/2020 16:42

Simon is very earnest isn't he! I'm currently disliking the second home owners heading to lovely places, and wondering why I don't have a nice second home and ski trips in February. Or a vintage vw camper with bunting....

Iblinkedandiamold · 08/04/2020 16:44

I just want to to the forest near my house but I cant because it's more than 2km away. I miss walking there.

Lipz · 08/04/2020 18:53

No one came. I rang about 15 mins ago and they said they were busy but would come down if they become available. Aw well. They're still out there having a ball. Now the other side has her 3 kids friends in, so it looks like everyone isn't giving a shit. I wouldn't even go to the shop earlier as I thought it'll be too busy with the fine weather. I am wondering now if I'm taking this too seriously and are there lots of people just carrying on as normal. Don't go out much so can't see.

LadyEloise · 08/04/2020 19:13

Lipz they may not be so jovial when one of their loved ones succumbs to Covid19.

honeyrider · 08/04/2020 19:18

One of my sisters, her prat husband and their adult children are ignoring social distancing. They've been visiting friends, having sleepovers and partying then visiting our elderly mother. They live the other side of the country. I've had a few barneys with her but she doesn't care. She's always been the type that will do the opposite of what's asked.

beanaseireann · 08/04/2020 19:20

Can someone do a link to a new thread please ? I think we need it. I don't know how.
